Message from the General Manager >>>

Dear Stephanie, I am pleased to provide you with our 2013 Year End Report. 2013 proved to be another pivotal year in establishing Oshawa and the General Motors Centre as one of the premier sports and entertainment destinations for southern Ontario. This year we hosted 97 total events with six sold out shows which included Blue Rodeo, Eric Church, The Tragically Hip, two shows of the Price is Right Live and the Dixie Chicks. The venue continued to garner national and international recognition when it was named #15 in the world in Venues Today magazine Mid-Year Top Stops report, was nominated for a fourth consecutive year as Major Facility of the Year (under 8,000 capacity) at Canadian Music Week, and finished 2013 being ranked as #186 in the world in Pollstar Magazines Top 200 Arena Venues list. 2014 has started even stronger than the previous year having already hosted a record number of events in our 1st quarter and saw the Centre host 15 events in 28 days in February which included sold out shows for Jason Aldean, Dean Brody, Elton John, Blue Rodeo and Hedley. Along with the major concerts listed above we truly offered something for everyone by also hosting such events as the CHL Subway Super Series, Disney Playhouse Live, Dora the Explorer, Motley Crue and Lord of the Dance. During 2013, the General Motors Centre was home to the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, the Durham Turfdogs of CLax and the Oshawa Power of the NBLC. Unfortunately, the Power have now relocated to Mississauga however; the Turfdogs continued to call Oshawa home and the Generals are enjoying a tremendous season which has seen their strong play rewarded with increased attendance and as Eastern Conference Champions are poised for a deep playoff run. On behalf of our Global Spectrum team, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your leadership, support and guidance throughout the year. I would also like to thank Mayor Henry and Council for their support, as well as the many members of the City of Oshawa staff who we work with day to day and for making us feel like part of the municipal family. We are all truly excited about the year ahead and look forward to sharing many more great achievements in the near future. Sincerely, Vince Vella General Manager for Global Spectrum General Motors Centre

"... was nominated for a fourth consecutive year as Venue of the year at Canadian Music Week (under 8,000 capacity)..."

"2014 has started even stronger than the previous year having already hosted a record number of events in our 1st quarter..."

<<< Message from the Contract Administrator

Dear Vince, The General Motors Centre is the premier sports and entertainment destination for the City of Oshawa and continues to capture the attention of the entertainment industry. Industry recognition led to both national and international rankings in 2013. Venues Today magazine ranked the GM Centre 15th in the world in it’s Mid-Year Top Stops Report and Pollstar magazine gave it a ranking of 166th in the world in it’s 3rd Quarter Report. Strong relationships with promoters, most notably Live Nation, brought 11 live events to the building in 2013. The GMC hosted 6 sold out shows for Blue Rodeo, Eric Church, The Tragically Hip, 2 shows of The Price is Right, and the Dixie Chicks. Quality acts, robust ticket sales and the strength of the market led to 294,137 people attending the GMC in 2013. The GM Centre remains the home of the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club, and the Durham Turf Dogs Lacrosse team. The Generals had a very successful regular season and won their conference championship. The hockey team will bring even more excitement to the GM Centre as they progress through the playoffs. As the facility’s General Manager you should be proud of the growth, recognition and success of the GM Centre. The facility’s achievements are a testament to the dedication and efforts of you and your staff. The 2014 event calendar has a number of high quality events scheduled and is shaping up to be another great year! Sincerely, Stephanie Sinnott, CGA Manager, Financial Reporting and Planning and GMC Contract Administrator City of Oshawa

"Venues Today magazine ranked the GM Centre 15th in the world!"

City of Oshawa The City of Oshawa is the largest municipality in Durham Region, expanding North from Lake Ontario to rural farmlands. The city is alive with its ever emerging arts and music scene; home to a number of annual cultural events, galleries, five museums, three live theatres and the Ontario Philharmonic, a world-class symphony. The General Motors Centre naturally fits in, located in the heart of Downtown.

TENANTS Throughout 2013, the General Motors Centre was home to three tenant teams; the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Oshawa Power of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) and the Durham TurfDogs of the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax). Oshawa Generals, one of the most recognizable hockey organizations of the OHL boasts about being the starting point for names like Bobby Orr, Eric Lindros, Albert ‘Red’ Tilson and the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft, John Tavares. The Oshawa Power of the newly founded NBLC, continued to put a roster of exciting young talent onto the hardwood to finish their 2012/2013 season. Unfortunately the Power relocated to Mississauga to start the 2013/2014 season in the three year old league. The Durham TurfDogs of the newly established CLax continued to call the General Motors Centre home turf as the original Oshawa Machine relocated to Toronto under the Shooting Stars name. The TurfDogs played strong throughout their 2013 season as they headed into playoffs falling short of reaching the finals.

GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA LTD. The city of Oshawa is home to General Motors of Canada. The company’s headquarters are located just east of Oshawa on the shoreline of Lake Ontario. As an outsider coming into the General Motors Centre, and as someone who understands the importance of the arena/team relationship, I did not know what to expect when I became General Manager of the Oshawa Generals. I can honestly say that, from day one, Vince and his staff have gone out of their way to make sure that all of our needs were looked after. Along with all of the hard work the staff put in for us, it is always done in a cheerful and upbeat manner. As a result of this relationship, the Generals and General Motors Centre have developed a team attitude that benefits both sides. We are very fortunate to be a major tenant in this beautiful building and just as fortunate to have tremendous personal relationships with the outstanding staff here. Regards, Jeff Twohey General Manager Oshawa Generals

The Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is located in the General Motors Centre. As a tenant, I would like to thank Vince and his staff for the excellent treatment and support we have received right from the Maintenance Staff through to the Event and Box Office Staff. Through their experience and expertise, we have realized savings in the staging of our annual Induction Ceremony and Dinner while at the same time improving on the event each year. Sometimes, we get tied up in patting ourselves on the back without recognizing the help of those in the background. Thanks again to all of the GM Centre Staff for a job well done. Dan Walerowich Chairman The Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame

We at Durham Radio are delighted at the evolution over the past five years of our relationship with Global Spectrum/General Motors Centre, Oshawa. From November 2009 when KX 96 co-produced the Johnny Reid show, the first major country concert at the GMC, we have watched the Centre grow into a desired destination for concerts large and small. We really value the successful partnership between the GMC and Durham Radio. Doug Kirk President Durham Radio Inc.

Happy to see you are managing to get more concerts at the GM centre. I love having this concert space so close to my home!!! I've been to many events at the GM Centre and plan to attend many more. Keep bringing in the great entertainment. Thanks! -- Marla E., Whitby, ON The General Motors Centre is an awesome venue. I like that it's not too big, and it's close to home. -- Janice B., Ajax, ON My family and I love the GM Centre. Our most recent concert was Reba and we are off to the Generals game this coming Sunday. Great facility, amazing shows/sporting events. We already have more concert/hockey tickets lined up! -- Sharon B., Toronto, ON Keep up the great work and keep up the recent trend of great events ! It's a first class venue. -- Dan F., Newcastle, ON You have done a great job in getting great acts here - very impressed. It is great to see big acts so close to home and more importantly in a nice sized venue. Way better than Casino Rama even if it were here GMC would still be nicer. -- Catherine T., Oshawa, ON

GM Centre is smaller and more enjoyable for concerts sound wise and crowd wise. It is great to go to a live concert locally and not have to battle with the crowds and commuting home afterward especially on a week night. Besides I think that residents should spend their dollars locally to support our community. -- Bibi W., Whitby, ON

How YOU doin’? is a customer service philosophy used by all Global Spectrum Facilitates. We at the General Motors Centre are committed to ensuring our fans have an incredible experience from the moment they step through our doors. The way we achieve excellence in customer service is simple, our employees. We have implemented an incentive program; rewarding our employees for going above and beyond their regular job duties for the fans. Customers and venue management are welcomed to present a staff member with a HYD card when he or she represents the How YOU Doin’? philosophy. The HYD Committee then collects the cards from our employees and use them for monthly, quarterly, and annual prize draws. As an end of season thank you, the management team at the General Motors Centre host a summer Barbeque to thank and recognize all staff for their dedication throughout the past season.

On behalf of the Circle of Friends Charity Golf Tournament Committee, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous silent auction donation of four tickets to Dora the Explorer at the General Motors Centre on November 6th.

Your dedication to this event is greatly appreciated and we look forward to working with you again in the future. Thanks again, Fraser Mowat and Darryl Julott Student Interns Susan Edwards Area Coordinator – Corporate Accounts

With your support we exceeded our fundraising goal and raised over $35,000 for clinical research in mental health at Ontario Shores. We could not have done it without the support of individuals such as you. Once again, thank you. People like you make it possible for us to achieve our goals and make our vision a reality. We hope that you will consider supporting us again next year and hold the date for Monday August 11, 2014. Sincerely, Circle of Friends Charity Golf Tournament Committee

<<< future outlook

The General Motors Centre has f i rmly established itself as one of the premier destinations in southern Ontario. Throughout 2013, we continued to attract more shows and bigger stars and this growth has continued into 2014, where in February alone we hosted 15 premier events including Jason Aldean and Elton John over a 28 day period. The venue is consistently ranked among the world’s elite in Venues Today and Pollstar and continues to be recognized as one of the top Canadian facilities in its category during Canadian Music Week. As we continue to push forward with our strategic plan to drive this facility towards cost neutrality, the major pieces are all beginning to fall into place and we are well positioned to achieve our objectives in the coming years. As the venue now enters its eighth season, care and control of this marquee facility has never been more critical to ensure the significant investment made by the City of Oshawa is safeguarded. We will continue to honour that sacred trust, work tirelessly to continue to raise the bar in all areas, and pledge to fulfill the vision which gave rise to the General Motors Centre.
