COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN TIPS
By balancing a wide range of factors, thoughtful and inspired commercial interior design can create spaces that directly contribute to a business’s long term success.
Commercial interior design is often more involved than residential design This is because you ’ re creating a more complex space for two groups of people business owners and their customers or employees The overall functionality of the space is paramount, designed in a way that is engaging, comfortable, and efficient, all while being visually appealing
In commercial design, the existing conditions of the commercial space must be considered, as well as the client’s current and future needs. The space ’ s projected maintenance needs also should be taken into account, as well as the total budget and the desired completion date From there, here are eight of the most important commercial interior design best practices

Biophilia
Biophilia is the idea that humans have an innate love of nature and thrive when they have a connection to it You can apply this to your commercial designs by adding natural elements greenery, wood, stone, and natural light to the space. Adding natural elements like these to commercial spaces has been shown to reduce stress, increase feelings of wellbeing and motivate customers to spend.
Accessibility
Since a commercial space will be used by the public, it’s important to include accommodations for people with special accessibility needs. This could include wheelchair ramps, handlebars at strategic locations and handicap bathrooms.

THE HOME SHOULD BE THE TREASURE CHEST OF LIVING
Shindigs
Outdoor shindigs present more opportunities for hosting gaffes than indoor parties Here are the party bloopers and event wreckers people make most often from ill timed sprinklers to elemental blunders and what to do instead Because when entertaining outdoors, you can make missteps before you’ve even swept the patio! To help you host an al fresco party this summer, here are some of the most common mistakes and the wisest ways to avoid them.
The Elements The Decor
A major oversight is failing to consider that guests themselves will barbecue if you don’t provide shade during a daytime party, and will be miserable if sunset ushers in a chill. As a chic alternative, use sail shades overhead to block rays but let air through To counter evening cool offs, heat lamps and blankets can help. Try adding draping the chair backs in scarves or rugs As the evening gets cold, your guests can put them on their shoulders or legs
Don’t use some of the most routine outside entertaining looks all to be avoided, such as mason-jar glasses, minichalkboard menus and galvanised steel buckets as wine chillers Instead, layer in cosy elements to make your party stand out For example, add softness underfoot and an unexpected homey note such as inexpensive seagrass matting, which you can pull out whenever you entertain
HOW TO AVOID THE 5 WORST OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING MISTAKES THEDESIGNJOURNAL 07
READY TO PARTY
The Lighting
For the sort of just-right illumination that spurs conviviality and averts spills, neither a glaring floodlight nor a string of twinkling fairy lights will do Instead, aim for warm, soft lighting that emanates from multiple levels. Make a space even cosier with a perimeter of lanterns Tuck small flameless tea lights among low tabletop flower arrangements Or set portable table lamps on the ground for ambient glow.
The Seating
There’s nothing worse than being seated in a spot where you’re cut off from all but one or two people or having shuffle in and out of a long bench while in a dress.
Instead, limit benches to two seaters, and think beyond dining tables. Set small benches or chairs from inside in unexpected corners so guests can move about If you’re lucky, you can exploit your landscaping. A broad set of steps or a low wall with outdoor cushions will encourage smaller, intimate conversation groups
Sensory Factors
Aggressive odours like citronella and trash, as well as neighbourhood noise, can be the unforeseen foes of a backyard gathering. Hosts curate a meticulous menu but can overlook partygoers’ four other senses Instead, to keep mosquitoes at bay, use natural citrus sprays, not artificial bug repellents, and set refuse receptacles upwind or at a distance Mask the sound of traffic or trains with tunes or a water feature. If you ’ re got a great party playlist, don’t blast music from inside the home Invest in a good quality portable outdoor speaker

INTERIOR DESIGN PREDICTIONS 2023
The big ideas and trends defining design for the coming year include a huge emphasis on stone, particularly marble, as both functional and artistic pieces within the home.
2022 has been an invigorating year, with many people welcoming friends and family back into their homes. Here then, are some of the trends we ’ re seeing for next year, from Murphy beds making a comeback to vivid rooms and consumable decor. We are loving that colour, comfort and statement bedheads are in next year! Read on for 13 home décor themes, concepts, and objects primed for a big moment in 2023.
Of course, remember, the balance of timeliness and timelessness is difficult to strike. The goal when introducing trends is to create a space that’s fresh but doesn’t date too quickly Start with a core design style and look for ways to place one or two trenddriven elements into a space
Ultimately, a space that feels eclectic won’t date and is more likely to remain timeless.

Maximalism
More is more? We’ve heard talk recently of “minimalism fatigue”, and we’ve found ourselves swayed by colour and pattern. Glamour is a very big word in interiors right now. Call it an after-effect of being cooped up indoors the past few years, or just the design pendulum swinging to the opposite extreme, but maximalism or shades of it is making a comeback.
People really want romantic paint colours, textures, and shapes, for instance, curves rather than angular and straight lines It’s part of the avant basic movement and desire to curate joyful, uplifting spaces with the use of punchy hues, curves and pattern.

Eco Materials
Look out for the rise and rise of building materials with renewable roots that take less of a toll on the environment, such as cork and hemp. Here’s hoping building with hemp and other eco-minded materials becomes the new norm.

Comfort Above-All
Maybe we ’ re all just feeling a little exhausted, or maybe we ’ re not yet ready to give up the work-from-home, everyday athleisure experience, but many of us are still not ready for sharp edges in our interiors Plush, tufted, and luxuriously upholstered furniture pieces and accessories are trending and proving that you can be both stylish and cosy at home. An ottoman was the most requested piece designers say in projects this year, and helped create spaces that truly felt like refugees. At the end of the day, people want to put their feet up and relax, so materials like mohair, velvet, suede, linen, wool, rattan and jute are big news for 2023.

Supercycling Vintage
Homeowners are increasingly purchasing second-hand furniture but in future, the practice will be the norm. The supply chain and long lead times have encouraged more vintage hunting among designers who prefer the availability advantage along with the sustainability benefits.

WHITE OUT
Finding the perfect white wall paint can be like finding a needle in a haystack! There are over 150,000 white paints available on the market, so first and foremost, when choosing white paint it is important to know your cool from your warm whites. You’ll be deciding if you want your space to have a cool stark architectural feel or a warm more comforting feel Warm whites are great for those interiors where you don't get a lot of
natural light so you want to create a room that's very warm and inviting Colours such as Dulux natural white, beige royal, and China white are great for those sorts of interiors If you're after a cool white, you may have a room that has excessive amounts of natural white, or you may want to create an interior that's very minimal and contemporary Colours such as Dulux vivid white and Lexicon are great for those rooms
"Look at the colour in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening to see how the paint changes throughout the day” melissalunardon com
Once you have narrowed down your possible selections of white paint, review your paint with the rest of your finishes Lay your samples together and then add your samples. You’ll quickly see what whites compliment or clash with your palette The ones that clash are out
