The department vision for PE and school sport can be simplified and broken down into three main intentions: Participation, Development & Challenge.

Participation Development Challenge

All PE and Games lessons are accessible and inclusive for all students.

Promoting lifelong participation and enjoyment in sport and physical activity.

Giving students the knowledge to lead a more balanced, active lifestyle.

The PE curriculum offers variety and diversity across a wide range of activities, which progress and sequenced across the curriculum.

Participation in PE and school sport, reinforces school values such as respect, responsibility, and resilience,

All students are encouraged to participate in PE with links to careers in sport shared with students.

The Year 9 curriculum prepares and encourages students to participate and study GCSE PE.

Students learn and develop game specific skills for a variety of activities within practices and competitive environments.

Development of movement skills is a key component of all aspect of PE and games. Better movement = better performance allowing students to access a higher level of participation.

Students develop an understanding of the different tactics & rules of different games and activities throughout the PE curriculum.

Students develop personal skills across each activity in PE and games. Personal skills such as leadership, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, problem solving.

Positive behaviour in sport is promoted across all PE and games lessons. Sportsmanship, fair play, and respect are reinforced throughout the PE curriculum and extra-curricular sport.

All students, regardless of ability will find suitable challenge within PE and games. Class sets in Year 8 upwards support individual progress.

Students are challenged beyond the curriculum, in competitive sport and extra-curricular activities. Teams play in a range of sports in local and national competitions to access a higher standard of fixture and challenge.

Students are encouraged and challenged to become independent learners & develop their own ideas within a variety of different activities.

More able students in Year 8 and above are identified for the Sports Academy programme which has a bigger focus on challenge and Strength & Conditioning to support their physical development.
