Homecoming 2025: Announcements and Updates

Homecoming, one of Hilton Head Christian Academy’s most treasured traditions, is just under one week away! From October 6th -11th, HHCA students can expect a week filled with fun events: daily dress-up themes and the Homecoming football game, all wrapped up at the end of the week with the Homecoming dance. Here’s a rundown of everything that you need to know to prepare for HOCO 2025!

On Monday, October 6th the daily dress-up themes for HHCA students and staff begin. Monday’s theme is “Teeriffic Start”, a day for students to showcase their best golf gear. The next day is “Tacky Tuesday”, during which students are encouraged to wear their “tackiest” outfits –mismatched, clashing, and wild. Wednesday is “Pink Out”, exactly what the title states: all-out-pink-out (could this be a

subtle reference to the 2004 film Mean Girls, which features the iconic line, “On Wednesdays we wear pink”?). Next up, Thursday is “Letter Perfect” day, in which students and staff wear an outfit that corresponds to the first letter of their name (for example, somebody named Adam might dress up as an apple, as their name begins with an A). To wrap it all up, Friday’s theme puts a new spin on the HHCA classic “extreme blue and gold” day: “Golden Girls & Boys In Blue”. Let’s all show some Eagle spirit this week and enjoy the Homecoming holiday!

At the end of the week are the moments that everyone has been anticipating most of all: the Homecoming football game and dance. At the Homecoming football game, HHCA will face-off against First Baptist with kickoff at 7:30 PM. During this match, the school will host Senior Recognition for cheerleading, football, and cross country, as well as the Homecoming court to determine our 2025-2026 Homecoming King and Queen. Admission is free for athletic booster club members and students, five dollars for guest students, and ten dollars for adults. Additionally, concessions will be available for purchase. Come support your fighting Eagles at the game!

To wrap up the 2025 Homecoming holiday, the Homecoming dance will be hosted on October 11th, 2025 from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Upper school students are encouraged to dress according to the dance theme, “Snow-CO”, and enjoy an evening of fellowship and dancing.

This concludes all the necessary information regarding the 2025-2026 HHCA Homecoming celebration. Enjoy the events, support your fellow Eagles, and have a blast!

Clubs to Kick Off the Year

Here at HHCA, we are glad to have kicked off another year of school this fall and… it’s already October. Besides the point that the year is already flying by, it is likely that after gaining familiarity with class schedules and getting settled in, some students are looking for opportunities to get more involved in the school, find a good way to pass time, or want another point of interest to put on their transcript. A good way to satisfy these needs is to get involved in clubs and extracurriculars, of which our school has many (around twenty-eight!). Additionally, there are even a few new clubs debuting this year. This article gives a good introduction to three of the many clubs offered at our school, as well as encourages students to boost their school involvement by getting plugged into a club.

One of the new clubs offered this year is Puzzle Pros, a

club centered around harnessing critical thinking and problem solving skills to decipher puzzles, riddles, escape rooms, and more. The club meets during lunch on the first Monday of each month in room 308. Any students interested in building more complex thought patterns or simply testing the creative skills they already have for out-of-the-box thinking should reach out to Ms. Caprielian and Mrs. Pegram for more information.

Another new extracurricular that is gaining attention and hopes to gain more members and support is HHCA’s upcoming Bass Fishing Team. It’s not a secret that one of the most popular pastimes enjoyed by many HHCA students is fishing, and this club serves as a great opportunity for many to put their angling skills to the test. Currently, there is still limited information about the club due to the fact that it has not become official yet. However, sources say that the club is “90% official”, and those interested and expectant should keep an ear out for more information as the club gets finalized.

The final club that this article features is the one that allows you to be reading this right now: The Crest, our school’s student-run newspaper and journalism club, which

is currently looking for more members to add to the team. Any student who is interested in journalism, creative writing, art, photography, graphic design, interviewing, or simply keeping up with what our school is up to should consider joining. The club currently meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month during both activity period and lunch. It is led by HHCA junior Jackie Hayes, but is overseen by Mrs. Artime, both of whom you can reach out to for more information.

As the three clubs mentioned above continue to fill up and get settled into the new year, it is likely that more information about their progress and the progress of others will be relayed to the rest of the school in more detail. You can expect to be notified of updates through our school newspaper. More information about any of the clubs offered at Hilton Head Christian Academy can be found at our school’s website, hhca.org, under the “Campus Life” tab and the “Clubs & Organizations” subtab.

Christian Advice Column: Student Journalism Through A Blog

At the start of the summer, HHCA junior Jackie Hayes took student journalism to the next level by introducing her personal blog to Substack.com. The blog, titled More Than Rubies, is a Christian faith-based column for teenage girls that focuses on girl-talk, life advice, personal experiences, and walking with God through everyday life. In this blog, Jackie shares pieces of her life while also keeping it real and pointing to the core theme that God’s daughters are worth more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10). If you’re looking for a new fall read, be sure to check out More Than Rubies at Substack.com!
