Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College is part of The Consortium Academy Trust.
As a Trust we are ambitious about the future, creating learning environments and excellence in teaching and learning that provide our children and young people with the best chance at a successful future. Other schools which are part of our Trust include Croxby Primary, Cottingham High School and Sixth Form College, The Hessle Academy (an all-through school which includes Hessle High School & Sixth Form College and Penshurst Primary), Holderness Academy & Sixth Form College, Howden School, Keyingham Primary and Winifred Holtby Academy. The Consortium Sixth Form College delivers post-16 provision to learners across our Trust.
The strength of our Trust is in working together for the sole benefit of children and young people. Our highly skilled Headteachers work collaboratively, by sharing resources and expertise, to ensure children and young people across all our schools experience inclusive learning opportunities alongside a challenging, fun and aspirant education. As a team, in partnership with parents, carers and other key stakeholders, we are ambitious to shape positive futures, so each child and young person is able to excel and achieve their goals.

...working together...
“The strength of our Trust is in working together for the sole benefit of children and young people.’’
We are a successful and ambitious school who pride ourselves on the education, care and opportunities we can provide.
We are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum, including both academic and vocational options. In the summer of 2021, despite the challenges we had all faced, we celebrated with our young people as they shared with us the plans they had for their next steps, having completed their education with us.
At Wolfreton we enjoy a calm and positive environment. We have strong pastoral support that is valued by students and their families; our House teams work with all staff to continually bring out the best in our young people providing support and positivity through teamwork.
We are fortunate to have an excellent team of staff, both teaching and support, who work together to provide the best experience for our students. We prioritise learning and teaching, and we enable all of our young people to play an active role in working to further develop their individual interests, strengths and future learning. We provide all students with a rich curriculum including the full range of core subjects, as well as the
humanities, arts, technologies and sport. We support personal and social development through our curriculum and our pastoral work. We recognise and value extracurricular opportunities. Through these our students can develop interests and skills that they can continue to enjoy for many years. A great amount of time is given to providing these opportunities across the school from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. As well as additional academic support and educational visits, our young people can participate in a wide range of sporting, creative and performing arts clubs, as well as working to develop their own leadership skills.
In choosing a school to trust with your child’s secondary education, I know you are faced with a particularly important decision. I hope that this prospectus, along with information that can be found on our website, gives you a flavour of our school and our values and priorities. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to answer them.

“Our team is an enviable team in both experience and scale. All are committed to ensuring that students feel safe and supported, and that they enjoy their time at Wolfreton.”
Pastoral care is both a priority and a strength at Wolfreton.
Our team is an enviable team in both experience and scale. All are committed to ensuring that students feel safe and supported, and that they enjoy their time at Wolfreton.
We work hard to ensure that everyone is known and that they know that they matter. Form Tutors stay with their form group from Year 7 to 11 wherever possible. Whilst specialist Sixth Form Tutors take on the mantle post-16, the bonds with their main school tutor remain.
To ensure a successful transition from primary school, the Year 7 Head of Year and Pastoral Manager stay in Year 7, gaining a real understanding of what is needed for a
successful transition. The Year 8 to Year 11 Team remain with students for their main school journey – these key adults are valued by children and families alike with relationships that stand the test of time.
Complementing our Year Teams, our Heads of House lead the fun. Through events and activities they foster the 5C’s: Competition, Collaboration, Community, Charity and always, Championing Success. As a staff and student body, we recognise the value these opportunities bring.
Finally, our wider pastoral team looks to celebrate success, add challenge and provide valued care in times of need. Colleagues working directly with students include our Safeguarding and Attendance Teams, our ELSA, our Thrive Practitioner, our Pupil Premium Mentor, and our Trust Mental Health Team. All working together so students can...achieve their ambitions.
“At Wolfreton we work hard to engage and motivate all students in a challenging whilst supportive learning environment.”
At Wolfreton we work hard to engage and motivate all students in a challenging whilst supportive learning environment.
Our subject specialist teachers have designed a knowledge rich curriculum that has carefully identified the subject knowledge that students should know and be able to apply at key points in their learning journey. This curriculum has been carefully sequenced and opportunities to revisit knowledge and skills built in, to ensure prior learning forms the bedrock for future learning. Our approach supports the notion of a ‘Big Picture’ meaning that whilst studied separately, links between subjects and to the real world are developed.
At Wolfreton we value all subject disciplines. Our approach ensures dedicated time is available for all National Curriculum subjects, avoiding rotations. In the classroom, lessons are shaped around ‘Big Questions’. We use research to teach in ways that impact and a combination of low stakes quizzing, and more formal assessment supports students to retain the knowledge they learn. Ultimately, through our subject specialists and approaches we achieve success and inspire further learning.
At Wolfreton we teach Key Stage 3 across Years 7, 8 and 9. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum so all students study English, mathematics, science, geography, history, a language (French or Spanish from Year 7), as well as physical education, religious studies, computing, art, music and PSHE (Personal Social and Health Education). All students also study drama as a discrete subject as we believe in the confidence and skills this develops.
Through our guided choices approach, our Key Stage 4 curriculum is organised to enable students to follow more individual learning programme that meet their needs and aspirations.
All students continue studying English (Language and Literature), mathematics, science (the separate sciences of biology, chemistry and physics, or combined science), geography or history (students can choose to study both) and, where appropriate, a language (French or Spanish). In addition, all students continue to study computing, religious studies, PSHE and physical education. Students are then able to select subjects from a comprehensive range of options, enabling them to develop their interests, skills and abilities, whilst also meeting their needs.
As a school, our vision is that all students are enabled to ‘achieve their ambitions’ and that no Special Educational Need or disability should be a barrier to benefitting from what our school has to offer, or from making progress in learning, social and emotional development and independence.
We believe that provision for students with SEND is a whole school responsibility. We work hard to identify the needs of students with SEND and to ensure they learn well and enjoy school.
Our Learning Support Team, led by our Director of Inclusion, one of our two SENDCOs, work closely with families to plan and evaluate additional provision needs and success.
“We work hard to identify the needs of students with SEND and to ensure they learn well and enjoy school.”
As a school we have a long-standing sporting tradition with many students achieving outstanding sporting success.
We aim to develop individual interests and enthusiasm for sport and emphasise the importance of co-operation and teamwork as well as the desire for excellence.
Beyond sport, students follow a carefully planned personal development curriculum, participating in many enrichment events, for example Restart a Heart Day, Prison Me No Way, work experience and the Year 7 Big Day
Out visit. There are also a wide range of elective extracurricular opportunities both for those looking to pursue an existing interest or try something new. Clubs range from drama, choir and art, to coding, lego and Japanese. For aspirant leaders, the Student Council plays an important role in our school, as do opportunities to take on roles within events.
As a school, we believe that educational visits can enhance learning and development in many ways. Over recent years students have visited The Yorkshire Wildlife Park, tackled Go Ape at Dalby Forest and sixth formers have travelled to New York. The ski trip sets off to Italy next Easter and Barcelona is on the agenda for Spanish, as well as the Battlefields for our Historians and in 2026, Peru for an intrepid group of cross-year group fundraisers.
“We aim to develop individual interests and enthusiasm for sport and emphasise the importance of co-operation and teamwork as well as the desire for excellence.”
As well as links with Oxbridge and other top universities, we offer degree specific support for students applying for courses such as medicine and teaching.
Careers advice is provided to ensure students are aware of the breadth of opportunities available to them. Each year our sixth form students leave us to go on to a variety of positive destinations including both university and apprenticeships with the majority of our students progressing on to a place at their first choice university.
Some success stories this year include Ellie who will study Environment and Business at the University of Leeds, Kian who will study Fine Art at Leeds Art University and Beth who is on a Criminology course at Loughborough University.
