GUO, THE AMNESIA GIRL EQUIVOCATOR

“Your honor, hindi ko po alam ” This line from Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo became a national issue due to her questionable identity, which she herself does not seem to understand During Senate questioning, her claim of being a “Filipino citizen” was challenged, leading to allegations that she may actually be a Chinese citizen or, as some suggest, a “Chinese spy ” In her statements about her personal life, Guo cannot even recall where she was born. When asked about where she grew up, she often responds with “lumaki po ako sa farm ” This response has turned her into a laughingstock and a meme on social media While her answer might seem amusing, it is also a ridiculous statement from someone who once held a position of authority It is shocking that a public official would face multiple allegations and inconsistent documents in court She is involved in illegal gambling activities through the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in her municipality. Her suspension and arrest, along with her "innocent" appearance in front of the media, is a disgrace Her failure to attend Senate hearings, false claims of citizenship, and inability to provide details about her life have earned her the nickname “Amnesia Girl ” While she may have gained online fame, it is not the kind of celebrity status anyone should aspire to she is, after all, a wanted criminal

Her bid for the 2025 elections is even more embarrassing Why would Filipinos consider voting for her? Supporting her would be a foolish joke. With numerous complaints and discrepancies against her, Filipinos should not vote for her Instead, she must face her legal challenges and not be allowed to run in the elections Filipinos must reflect on the importance of honesty and strive for a justice system that works for everyone Furthermore, people must be aware of what is happening in our country and understand the seriousness of this issue POGO operations must be stopped and banned These practices should be clear, and no workers should be involved. Voters need to be mindful of whom they support, ensuring they have trust in candidates who prioritise the good of the nation

THE RIGHT TO SERVE, NOT TO INHERIT

In the 21st century, political dynasties in the Philippines show no sign of fading Prominent families such as the Marcoses, the Aquinos, the Arroyos, and the Dutertes continue to dominate the political landscape, highlighting the enduring strength of dynastic rule. In the 2022 presidential election, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr , the son of the ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr , rose to power once again, despite the deep scars left by his family’s history of corruption and human rights abuses His victory underscored the remarkable ability of political dynasties to shape public perception and control political narratives, ensuring their hold on power remains unshaken The Marcos Family, in particular, exemplifies how dynastic politics thrive in a system that continues to favour the powerful and influential. This enduring dominance of political dynasties reveals a broader pattern of power passed down through family lines, regardless of the history or consequences associated with it Dynasties are able to manipulate public opinion by controlling information, framing narratives, and exploiting the loyalty of supporters Despite the undeniable harms caused by concentrated power corruption, political exclusion, and a lack of meaningful reform dynasties often retain public support through patronage, populist rhetoric, and media influence As long as these families maintain their grip on political office, the cycle of impunity and inequality continues The Marcos dictatorship (1965–1986) was a defining moment in the rise of political dynasties in the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Sr used patronage and corruption to create a family empire that extended across the country, cementing the idea that power could be consolidated and passed down His 21-year rule prioritized family interests over the needs of the people Even after Marcos Sr. was ousted in 1986, new dynasties emerged, using similar tactics to secure power. The 1986 People Power Revolution did not dismantle dynasties; it only introduced new families into the same structure of privilege and influence

Moreover, political dynasties fuel corruption and rent-seeking behaviors With power concentrated in a few hands, the temptation to exploit public office for personal gain becomes irresistible, creating a culture of impunity where leaders act with little regard for the rule of law or the public welfare Dynasties discourage the emergence of new leadership, as elections often become mere formalities, with candidates chosen based on family name rather than merit or commitment to the people

The time has come for the people of the Philippines to ask themselves: Do they want a government ruled by powerful families, or do they want to reclaim their right to be governed by leaders chosen for their ability and commitment to public service? Political dynasties have had their time, but their continued dominance is a direct threat to the values of democracy, equality, and fairness. The Filipino people deserve better than to be governed by those whose only qualification is their last name The right to serve should not be a birthright; it should be earned Only through breaking the cycle of political dynasties can the Philippines hope to create a more just, equitable, and democratic society

Rising Above the Waves

Making Waves

For Fj Catherine T Cruz, a student at the School of the Infant Jesus/EZEE, swimming started as a family bond and grew into her passion From a young age, she would go to the pool with her father, who is a swimming instructor Seeing her love for the water, her dad began teaching her, and she’s been dedicated to swimming ever since "Swimming is like therapy for me," Catherine explains "Without it, I feel like my life would be missing something." Recently, Catherine represented her region at Palarong Pambansa, a challenge she embraced wholeheartedly Although her journey there wasn’t easy, with a tough disqualification on her first day, she didn't give up She focused on her next events, ending the competition with a performance that made her family and herself proud. She credits her strength and motivation to her family, friends, and faith, all of whom supported her through the ups and downs

Training has had its share of tough moments, but it’s also given Catherine some of her best memories, like competing internationally and making new friends Her father has been her biggest supporter, helping her through every competition, making sure she’s prepared, and cheering her on “I try not to overthink and just trust everything to God,” she says, a mindset that keeps her grounded during high-stress moments

Her family’s encouragement has been a constant source of strength

Whether helping her with training or providing motivation, her father and her family have been by her side through it all “My dad does everything he can to help,” she shares, grateful for the guidance and support that have been so crucial in her journey

To other students who dream of competing, Catherine advises, “Discipline yourself, work hard, and don’t be afraid to give it your all ” Her story reminds us that determination, family support, and faith are the true pillars of success, qualities that will continue to guide her in the pool and beyond.

Shan Kervie Medina, a standout swimmer from the School of the Infant Jesus/EZEE, is no stranger to the grind of early mornings and countless hours spent in the pool. Inspired by his cousins, who were also swimmers, Shan’s journey into the sport began with a nudge from family but quickly grew into a personal passion What keeps him pushing forward, despite the gruelling training, is his love for competition and the pride he feels when he represents his region

Reflecting on his recent experience at Palarong Pambansa, Shan shares that the competition was the most intense and challenging he has ever faced “It was definitely pressuring,” he admits. “But I kept my head in the game and did my best ” His hard work paid off, as he took home a bronze medal in the relay event, proving that the countless hours of training were worth it However, the road to success hasn’t been easy Shan recalls the many tiring days leading up to Palarong Pambansa, a period he describes as the most challenging part of his journey so far But through it all, he remained motivated, drawing strength from his family, especially his father, who has been a constant source of encouragement, and from his number one supporter, Erica Vergara. “She’s an extremely important part of my journey,” Shan says “She helps me stay motivated and encourages me to reach my goals ” For Shan, swimming has taught him valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the pool “Never give up, even if it’s difficult,” he shares, explaining that while setbacks are part of the journey, resilience and determination will always lead you forward This mindset, he believes, is crucial not only in sports but in life. His advice to other students with dreams of competing? “Don’t be afraid to try. Risk it you might enjoy it. Just keep fighting and never lose sight of your dreams ” As Shan continues to train and look ahead to future competitions, he remains a powerful example to his peers of what dedication, passion, and a strong support system can achieve The journey may be challenging, but for Shan, it’s all part of rising above the waves

Justice: For All or For All the Priveleged?

Justice sides with the truth, only the truth. It is not a news flash that the former Bamban City Mayor Alice Guo has been dismissed from service and is currently facing multiple charges and senate hearings after pulling stunts that have now made their way to the headlines which eventually led to a media circus and a source of entertainment for people to feast on Political and social issues like this are not meant to be talked about in a table at a cafe for the sake of amusement and memes Rather, this unravels a deeper sense of awakening with regard to the justice system of a country that favours the privileged and denies justice to those who are oppressed Does justice really side with the truth? Or does it need to look like it does just to flatter the country’s sense of justice?

On September 4, 2024, Alice Guo was finally held captive in Indonesia after almost two months of playing hide and seek with the Philippine authorities. Guo was charged with multiple acts of crime such as human trafficking, tax evasion, and money laundering. Despite the seriousness of her alleged crimes, people still dared to treat Alice Guo like a high-profile celebrity with all the cameras and spotlight given to her by the media and the people This case not only became a disturbing trend but has also raised issues of how dysfunctional the legal and justice system are in the Philippines

The "special treatment" and unjust legal approach made by the authorities have then uncovered the truth behind the lack of integrity and low efficacy of the country's legal system

The Importance of Educational Field Trips in Learning

Learning is essential for every student, as it shapes the future and prepares them for what lies ahead While many people associate learning solely with the four walls of a classroom, it extends far beyond the confines of textbooks, PowerPoints, and traditional lectures Education can be found in museums, historical sites, science centers, and nature reserves Through educational field trips, students are given the opportunity to experience hands-on learning and discover knowledge that a typical classroom setting may not offer Field trips have long been a highlight of every student’s academic journey They provide an invaluable opportunity for young learners to explore the real world, enhancing skills like teamwork, communication, and problemsolving These trips encourage students to step outside their usual environment and embrace new learning experiences The impact of field trips is wide-ranging, offering a broader perspective on subjects beyond what is taught in a classroom

Another disturbing fact about this circus is that the unjustness of the justice system in the Philippines to the oppressed and marginalised people is shown nakedly to the country but never the selective application of justice to those who can buy the law at ease According to the 2023 World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index, the Philippines ranks 100th out of 142 countries that adhere to the rule of law in practice A weak legal system, corrupt higher authorities, and an inferior level of order and security presently pose a threat to the country and its people. This situation, if not dealt with right away will lead to a further devastating economic downfall

The bigger issue here that people should be alarmed about is the inconsistency, lack of accountability, and the unjust legal system that this country has. If Alice Guo can easily manipulate the legal system, what more are the elites and wealthy ones that are greedy for power? The Filipinos do not need any more people to stir the already dysfunctional system of the country. Accountability and transparent justice should be served in order to achieve peace and build a better society where equality prevails Justice can never be reached if the arm of the law is not long enough to hold a grasp of it So yes, a justice delayed, is a justice denied.

Field trips not only promote visual learning but also strengthen kinesthetic and auditory skills Students who learn best by engaging with their environment have the chance to interact directly with the material, whether it's through hands-on activities or absorbing information in a real-world context This multisensory approach helps students connect what they learn to the world around them, making it more meaningful and memorable Rather than being viewed simply as occasional breaks from classroom routine, field trips should be seen as transformative learning experiences Instead of associating them with logistical challenges or luxuries, we should recognize the holistic educational benefits they provide. As Dr. Jose P. Rizal said, students are the “hope of the nation ” Field trips expose students to new possibilities and career aspirations they may not have previously considered Whether it's exploring a museum, touring a technology startup, or visiting historical sites, these trips offer new perspectives and possibilities for the future The knowledge and wisdom students gain from field trips are powerful tools that shape their personal and academic development. By connecting classroom learning to the outside world, we provide students with a wellrounded education that prepares them for tomorrow’s challenges

Equality in Love: A Right, Not a Privilege

The implementation of same-sex marriage in the Philippines is a significant step toward equality and human rights. Recognizing and legalizing same-sex marriage would support the dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals, allowing them to enjoy the same legal rights and protections as heterosexual couples This recognition is not just about marriage; it is about affirming the right to love and be loved, fostering acceptance within society, and contributing to a more inclusive culture.

Legalizing same-sex marriage can also have positive social impacts

By allowing same-sex couples to marry, the country would embrace love in all its forms, nurturing a sense of community and encouraging societal cohesion. When individuals can openly celebrate their relationships without fear of discrimination, the overall social fabric of the nation is strengthened Moreover, the case for same-sex marriage aligns with a broader global movement toward equality and fairness Many countries have recognized the importance of equal rights for all, and the Philippines should not lag behind in this vital issue. Embracing such progress reflects the values of compassion and understanding, paving the way for a more just society for everyone

Ultimately, the legalization of same-sex marriage is about ensuring happiness for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation It is about creating a society where everyone has the right to pursue love and happiness without barriers or stigma. The Philippines can take a crucial step toward equality by recognizing and legalizing same-sex marriage, affirming that love knows no boundaries and that everyone deserves a chance to be happy.

Al: An Asset or Liability?

As technology in today's century continues to advance and outgrow the human workforce, Al has become essential to every industries benefiting from it The use of Artificial Intelligence in the Philippines, though may impose threat to the workforce and productivity of the society, remains a relevant component towards the rise of technology in the 21" century It offers opportunity for greater impact and advancement of technology

Artificial Intelligence are the machines or systems that are programmed to mimic human attributes to carry out various tasks According to Jonathan de Luzuriaga, the president of Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), the rise of this technology is an opportunity for new jobs, not an area of concern for human elimination in the workforce As a nation that symbolizes resiliency, Luzuriaga is positive that the country can surpass any of the challenges brought by Al if people are aware of the adaptation to new technologies that are about to come "The first step to address the threat of Al is to promote awareness among Filipinos, making them understand that newer technologies are coming," he added

Moreover, the ability of the people to adapt and grasp the evolving technology can be a starting step for the country to understand how crucial Artificial Intelligence is to the advancement and betterment of today's generation Al doesn't replace humans Rather, it fosters culture for evolution and human-Al collaboration; in fast food chains, business industries, academic pursuits, and even recognition enhancement of various devices and appliances It does not replace the workforce; it reshapes

In conclusion, Al is an asset towards an efficient, enhanced, and brighter workforce if it does not outgrow and eliminate the ability of humans to do their jobs The new inputs and human-like tasks provided by the systems and robots have made the workforce easy to navigate with while humans are given the opportunity to extend their capabilities into more complex services With this, optimum productivity and improved quality of work is achieved.
