Porters’ On Main: Breathing New Life Into Tupelo’s Nightlife
Will Porter
By Justice Reid Nestled inside Tupelo’s historic Rankin Building, a fresh and exciting addition to the city’s entertainment scene is preparing to open its doors. Porters’ On Main, envi-
sioned by a longtime hospitality professional turned business owner, is more than just a bar—it’s a gathering place that brings people together, celebrates community, and offers something the city has been missing. The idea for Porters’ On Main almost failed to materialize at Return Address: P.O. Box 1292 Corinth, MS 38835 this iconic location. The owner originally planned to open elsewhere, but when Carson— one of his former bosses—purPOSTAL PATRON chased the Rankin Building and mentioned the available commercial kitchen, every-
thing changed. The charm and history of the building sparked a new vision. “I saw the great opportunity to use a historic building as a new hangout spot for Tupelo,” he shared. And from there, Porters’ On Main began taking shape. The name itself reflects a long-standing dream. After gaining years of experience working with the Eat With Us group, he began to imagine running his own place— something with personality, comfort, and a heartbeat of its own. When the opportunity finally presented itself, he grabbed it and poured everything he’d learned into this new venture. Porters’ On Main aims to add a fresh layer to Tupelo’s nightlife by doing what many others don’t—staying open late and serving food long after most kitchens close. With bar favorites like cheese sticks, a sausage and cheese platter, chicken wings, and a French dip sandwich, guests won’t have to hunt for a meal after 10 p.m. The venue will also feature a variety of entertainment options, including pool tables, arcade games, dart boards, trivia nights, karaoke, bingo, DJs, and live music. Ten 55-inch TVs ensure there’s always something to watch, whether it’s sports, concerts, or major events. But Porters’ On Main is more than fun and games—it’s atmosphere. The goal is simple: make everyone feel welcome. “I want customers to feel comfortable, calm, and relaxed,” he explained. “This will be a place to chill, have a few drinks, enjoy good food, watch TV, and play a few games.” The venue will be family-friendly during regular hours, offering a safe, inviting environment for all ages before transitioning into a lively nightlife option as the evening goes on. Opening a business from the ground up hasn’t come without challenges. Navigating permits and learning the full scope of
restaurant operations have been significant hurdles. But the excitement of hearing strangers talk positively about the new business—and share their anticipation for something new in Tupelo—makes it all worth it. The historic Rankin Building itself plays a meaningful role. “Historical buildings have such an impact on the community,” he said. “They give flavor to businesses.” That blend of old and new is part of what makes Porters’ On Main special. It’s a tribute to the past while serving the needs of a growing, vibrant city. Local artists and musicians will also find a home at Porters’ On Main. With full control over the space, the owner is open to almost anything—performances, community events, private parties, and collaborations with other local businesses. Building partnerships and creating a dependable event space are top priorities in the venue’s first year. As Tupelo gears up for the soft opening on December 30, 2025, guests can expect tasty food, live music, and plenty of fellowship as Porters’ On Main makes its official debut. The team encourages the community to follow their Facebook page, Porters On Main, for updates, schedules, and announcements as they prepare for their grand opening. Above all, Porters’ On Main is about connection. “I hope we bring people together in a safe and fun environment,” he said. “Porters’ On Main will have something for everyone.” And looking ahead, he hopes the venue will be remembered as a locally owned business that stepped up to give the community what it needed. From the historic heart of Tupelo, a new chapter is beginning—one filled with music, laughter, late-night bites, and memories waiting to be made. Tupelo is ready, and Porters' On Main is almost here.
