Summer Snapshots Special Edition Monday 4 September 2012

Summer in the city One giant leap Congratulations to Ludgate, winners of Sports Day 2012. Yet another fantastic sporting event at the Academy this summer. GB athletes and fencing team members watched on at Lee Valley as our very own sports stars took to the track.

Winning ways at Wembley The Great Britain women’s football team beat current Olympic champions Brazil 1-0 at Wembley in from of a 70,000 strong crowd including a lucky group of students and staff from The City Academy. After 90 minutes of cheering and flag waving, our troop of ‘Golden Ticket’ holders celebrated the win under the iconic arch of Wembley.

Torch visits Olympicthemed Summer School Our new Year 7 students rounded-off their first week at the Academy with a Taewondo masterclass from GB Youth coach and honourary torch bearer, Siva Renganathan.

A reminder that Key Stage 4 students (that’s all students in Year 10) will be expected to wear a light blue shirt or blouse to differentiate them from Key Stage 3 students. Blouses are available from our uniform supplier on Broadway Market.

There will be no additional studies classes for the first two weeks of term. The school day will finish at 3.40 p.m. for the first fortnight. Additional studies will start on Monday 17 September, running every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Printed copies of the first, full issue for this academic year will be distributed to all students and parents a week before half term and will be available to download from our website too. This will include key dates for the half term ahead and many more student-led articles.

Photos from sports fixtures, additional studies classes, trips, and performances can now be found on our new Flickr feed. We will also be launching a new website in the coming weeks. www.flickr.com/tcah
