City Schools’ Concert

In Spring the academy was proud to participate alongside other City Schools in the City Schools’ Concert. Performing in the Great Hall at the Guidhall and showcasing the musical talents of our students

Once again this was a testament to the dedication and vision of our music team who have worked over many years to build a culture of musical excellence at the academy, and this was a great opportunity for our students to both perform and to meet musicians from across the City of London family

SPRINGTERM

As another term draws to an end, it is once again hard to believe how much we’ve managed to fit in From the exiting events and activities organised by our staff throughout the term, to the dedication and hard work our Year 11 and 13 students put into preparing for their final set of mock examinations

Our Senior students have certainly demonstrated our core value of “leading by example” The careful preparation that they undertook in their revision set a great example for younger years, and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming exams

Science Fair

Year 8 students were able to demonstrate their practical science knowledge in our annual science fair

In their science lessons, students chose a research topic, and then over several weeks they independently conducted practical experiments and then wrote up their conclusions before presenting their findings to their peers in class

Each class then voted on the finalists and these finalists came to present their research at the science fair before our panel of parents, students and judges.

Congratulations go to:

Winner: Azra Altun

Runner up: Luca Jackson

Peoples’ vote: Baraa Fadlelmulla

The science department would also like to say a special thank you to our sixth form helpers: Holly Gibson, Judiel Fernandez, Akos Benfo, Selin Tiryaki and Humeyra Goktopal

France

In February our Year 10 linguists set-off to the south of France for their French residential. They landed in Montpellier and then travelled on to Sète, where they stayed with local families, attended language school, and participated in cultural activities - including attending French cookery classes (a highlight for many!)

Deniz Cetinkaya (Year 10), who attended the trip, had an incredible experience and highly recommends visiting France if given the opportunity:

“Going to France and living with my host family really improved my French, especially my pronunciation. It was amazing to learn while having fun at the same time."

Into University

As part of our “Into University” programme our Year 9 students had the opportunity to participate in career workshops introducing students to diverse careers in fields such as private equity, copyright law and even interior design! As part of this programme our students had the opportunity to visit UBS bank where they had to pitch a business idea to the bankers!

Ninty Jackson (Year 9) "My favorite part of the programme was the visit to UBS Bank. I particularly enjoyed pitching our sports app to the group and explaining why they should download it. Even though I was nervous at first, it went really well, and I’d love to do it again in the future."

Outward Bound

In February the top 12 merit winners in Years 7, 8 and 9 set off for a rather chilly mountain adventure in the Eryri National Park as part of the Outward Bound Trip 2025 . The students take on a variety of exciting challenges including hiking, rafting and camping and much more whilst staying in a cottage on the edge of the lake in beautiful Snowdonia.

Hugo Chaundy (Year 8): "I was taken aback by how beautiful the mountains were, and was surprised to discover such breathtaking scenery. My favourite part of the trip was canoeing across a massive lake and seeing the most beautiful waterfall. I also loved how flexible the trip was, we got to plan our itinerary together in our groups instead of just following a set schedule”.

Running forCharity

The PE department lead the annual charity run, collecting donations for the Hackney Foodbank Students from all year groups take part in the run in their PE lessons, some competing for a podium finish, others just challenging themselves to improve their fitness Even Mr Mangera (Head of Year 9), joined in this year’s run! It was a great event that brought the school community together and helped gather contributions for a great cause.

This term we ran, not one, but two trips for Year 9 and 10 students to get to go to the Globe Theatre to watch a production of ‘Macbeth’.

Macbeth is studied as part of the English GCSE syllabus, so this trip has not only deepened the students’ understanding of the play but has also given them an opportunity to see it performed live, in a traditional Shakespearean setting
