City Students Stand with Pride Painting Bright Banners for
September’s LGBTQ+ Parade As art is a representative medium, we aimed to use art to represent that we are proud of our LGBTQ+ community. Our students have strived to make their allyship more visible, by creating empowering banners that will fly high at September’s LGBTQ+ Pride parade. Through workshops held by professional artist Rebecca Strickson, they worked towards making the message bold, bright and clear: City Academy Hackney celebrates the diverse community of sexual and gender minorities, in London, in Hackney and in our school. The Year 7 & 8 Students that were working on this project said that for them Pride: ‘Means to be different and proud’ - Taylor Y7 ‘Being happy and diverse’ - Hind, Y7 ‘To make and be a difference within a repetitive society’ - Orlando, Y8 ‘To be different and proud of you and your sexuality’ - Lolo, Y8 ‘Being diverse and accepting people for who they are’ - Suzi, Y7
