The City Academy, Hackney top performing school in the borough This term, The City Academy, Hackney made appearances in both The Times and The Hackney Gazette due to its top performing status.

Figures released by the Department for Education (DfE) show that 60.4 percent of secondary schools in Hackney achieved 5 GCSEs from grades A* to C, including English and maths - an impressive figure when compared to the National Average of 54 percent. The City Academy, Hackney came in considerably higher however, with 73 percent of students leaving the academy with the same results.
“We also have the best average GCSE grade of any school in Hackney and the best GCSE average points score which placed us as the top school in Hackney in ‘The Times’ good schools near you table.”
The City Academy, Hackney also comes within the top five schools in the country for levels of progress made. Speaking about the academy’s high performing status, Mr Emmerson said “I am very pleased about the excellent progress being made at The City Academy.
He also looked ahead to even better results next year, adding: “If we look forward to the new progress 8 measure that will be used next year and apply that measure to our 2015 results we are actually placed two places higher as the third best school in the country.” “We look forward to our next set of results and are hopeful that our first set of A level results will replicate that exceptional progress.”

PSA Parent workshop Thank you to all the parents who joined Mr Gallagher, Ms Yennaris, and Mr Miller for the PE Taster Lesson. They were able to get an insight into how a PE lesson works, and play a session of table tennis. Next up: PSA Meeting - Sixth Form, 27 April, 5.30 - 6.30 pm.
