Embracing Innovation:
Charting
our Path Forward
Reflecting on this past year, I am inspired by how Omicron Delta Kappa has demonstrated resilience and forward-thinking leadership in our ever-changing landscape. Our Society’s commitment to recognizing exceptional leadership has been the organization's cornerstone and demonstrated that our work is needed now more than ever.
This past year, we have worked to blend the essential elements that are core to Omicron Delta Kappa with bold new approaches that will position us to thrive in the future. Introducing our new digital membership platform, MyODK, has allowed members to access their membership profile, update their information, and allow members to connect with one another through the platform.
Connecting members together is another innovation that O∆K is committed to promoting and perfecting. At a time when more and more folks are craving human connection, Omicron Delta Kappa is moving forward with opportunities for members to gather, especially those members who are no longer affiliated with their campus circle. O∆K’s 350,000+ members provide a vast network of individuals who were recognized for their academic and leadership success, with a common foundation of excellence.
Looking ahead, the landscape of higher education is changing, and Omicron Delta Kappa must also adapt. Our National Headquarters is investing in ways to support our campus circles, whose staff is being called upon to do more with less. This spring, we began piloting the National Invitation and Selection Program with several campuses, whereby the national organization assists circles with the recruitment and selection process.
The future of leadership will require adaptability. Omicron Delta Kappa is uniquely positioned to impact that future. By combining our core mission of excellence with a commitment to innovation, we are positioning

our society to remain relevant and impactful for generations to come.
I am grateful for the trust our members have placed in us. Together, we are not just adapting to change, we are leading it, ensuring that Omicron Delta Kappa remains a beacon of excellence in leadership.

In closing, I hope you’ll indulge me for one moment to share a personal experience. Ever since I injured my left knee last summer on the rowing machine (and had it replaced in January!), I’ve found another way to stay active and exercise: Real Hot Yoga. My new regimen includes 5-6 classes per week and I always enjoy the Friday 6 a.m. class taught by Kathleen. At the end of 55 minutes of rigorous activity, we begin our cool down portion of the class with the final pose—Savasana— marking the end of our yoga journey together.
Kathleen always leaves notes at the head of the mat of each student as a sort of takeaway and I’ve made a habit of collecting these thoughts/quotations/musings. Recently, she shared this quotation from the writer and theologian, Frederick Buechner. As we are just weeks into a new year, I’ve vowed to make this statement my outlook for 2025: “One life on this earth is all we get, whether it is enough or not enough, and the obvious conclusion would seem to be at the very least we are fools if we do not live it as fully and bravely and beautifully as we can.”
Here’s to a great year head and much success for O∆K as we live as fully and bravely and beautifully as we can.
Warm regards,

Michael T. Benson Chair, Board of Trustees

2024 NLC RECAP
The 2024 National Leadership Conference was held virtually November 13-15. Given the virtual format, the planning team focused on offering programming directed toward post-collegiate members in addition to the traditional circle operations and collegiate leadership development programs. Programming also included multiple sessions that facilitated virtual connection among participants as well as interactive gamification. The planning team worked diligently over several months to promote the conference through various creative outlets, including social media and YouTube video campaigns, generating just over 200 conference registrants. Attendance was highest for the opening featured speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Kiss and True Colors workshop. Feedback from session attendees indicated that the content met or exceeded expectations. After a thorough review and discussions with the pertinent committees, the Board of Trustees supported a plan to return to in-person conferences with 4-5 regional locations instead of one national location.

Louise Latture’s life was a testament to leadership, service, and an enduring passion for the arts. A distinguished Randolph-Macon Women’s College graduate, she pursued journalism at the University of Georgia before embarking on a life championing women’s health, education, and the communities in which she lived.
As a founding member of the Border Guild of Bristol—later the Junior League—Louise’s dedication to civic engagement extended to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she actively contributed to the Junior League, the Greensboro Opera Companions, and numerous cultural organizations. Her commitment to community well-being was recognized when she and her husband, Bill (Washington and Lee University, 1948), were named Health Heroes of the Year by Planned Parenthood in 2015.

Louise’s love for literature, history, and the arts shaped those around her. In recognition of her leadership and service, Louise was initiated into the Alpha Circle (Washington and Lee University) of Omicron Delta Kappa in 2017. She and Bill supported O∆K in numerous ways with their contributions to the building fund, the Rupert Nelson Latture Scholarship, and the Louise H. and William E. Scholarship. The library at the National Headquarters is named for the Lattures.
Louise was always gracious in all of her interactions – as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community member. She left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Dr. Richard E. Hoover:
Dedicated Leader, Educator, and O∆K National President

Dr. Richard E. Hoover (University of Nebraska Omaha 1980), who served as the National President of Omicron Delta Kappa from 1994 to 1998 and was an Emeritus Senior Lecturer at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, passed away on September 2, 2024. His leadership and dedication to fostering academic excellence and leadership development have left an indelible mark on both the Omicron Delta Kappa society and the countless students he mentored throughout his esteemed career.
In recognition of his outstanding service to O∆K, Dr. Hoover was honored with the Eldridge W. Roark, Jr. Meritorious Service Award in 1996. His commitment to education and leadership will be fondly remembered by his colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

O∆K Members Gl ance
388,275 all time members
6,872 new members in FY 2024

Congratulations to The University of Alabama Iota Circle, and Hampden-Sydney College Lambda Circle who celebrated 100 years of leadership in 2024. We thank you for your service and dedication to OΔK!

CirCle Installations
In 2024, two new O∆K circles were established.
One of this year’s installation ceremonies was held in person and the other virtually. Congratulations to the individuals who are the charter members of these new circles.
Keiser University
Joins Omicron Delta Kappa
On April 5, 2024, the Keiser University became the 434th chartered circle, marking a milestone in its commitment to leadership and academic excellence. O∆K Board Chair at the time, Peter Christiaans, presided over the chartering ceremony, welcoming Keiser’s students, faculty, and staff into the Society.
“With this new circle, Keiser University leaders will be recognized for their contributions to campus and community,” said Christiaans. “Student members will also benefit from O∆K’s national programs, including scholarships, internships, and leadership development.”
The charter group includes more than 30 founding members, including Keiser University President Dr. Gary Vonk, who was inducted as an honorary member. Christiaans extended gratitude to the university’s leadership, particularly Dr. Craig Bowe and Dr. Robin Schupper, for their efforts in establishing the circle.

O∆K's National Circle Expands Leadership Opportunities
On April 25, 2024, OΔK celebrated the chartering of its National Circle, a unique circle designed for students, faculty, and staff at institutions without an active OΔK circle. Meeting virtually and inducting new members twice a year, the National Circle connects collegiate leaders from across the country, offering them access to OΔK’s leadership development programs and networking opportunities.
One of its signature initiatives, the Teach Out webinar series, allows members to share their expertise with a broad audience. The National Circle was recently awarded a $1,000 Maurice A. Clay Leadership Development Grant to enhance its 2025 webinar programming. Members also benefit from exclusive networking through a dedicated LinkedIn group.
The National Circle provides a dynamic platform for leadership, professional growth, and community engagement.
Are you interested in helping establish a new circle at a nearby institution?

micron Delta Kappa’s Heritage Society exists to recognize and honor individuals and families who, through their estate plans, have established a gift of any size benefiting O∆K. Members of the Heritage Society strengthen O∆K for future generations and encourage others to follow their example of philanthropy.
Consider including our organization in your estate plans to help shape the future of Omicron Delta Kappa. By naming O∆K as a beneficiary in your will, trust, or other financial accounts, you can leave a legacy of leadership while potentially receiving tax advantages. Other meaningful ways to make a planned gift include through charitable gift annuities and retirement assets. Your thoughtful planning today ensures O∆K can continue empowering leaders for generations to come.
Is O∆K already included in your estate plan? Please let us know so we can recognize your commitment to leadership as a member of the Heritage Society!

Building Your O∆K Village
Recently, I read an article in The Atlantic by Derek Thompson about how Americans are spending more time alone and that we have lost our villages. The village is described as a community of people one can rely on for support, resources, and connection. I have been reflecting on this concept for several days and thinking about it in relation to Omicron Delta Kappa. In 1914, when our 15 founders came together, one of their goals was to connect the various parts of campus life for the common good and bring them together to recognize leaders. Throughout the past 110 years, our society has remained true to that mission.
When I joined OΔK as President and CEO in July 2023, I was excited by the opportunity to expand this mission beyond the campus circle. Our society has over 300,000 living members. What a fantastic opportunity to connect our members after they leave campus through different phases of their lives. OΔK has begun to roll out events for members to gather with one another. Some opportunities are:
➤ Join follow OΔK members, in partnership with Orbridge, on a trip to Kenya or the Galapagos Islands.
➤ Participate in OΔK’s National Day of Service
➤ Connect with follow OΔK members on our Discord Platform
➤ Register for OΔK events that are planned in your area

Membership in OΔK is for life. It exists beyond campus and can be an opportunity to connect with other amazing leaders. I hope you will take the opportunity to expand your OΔK village and participate in an in-person OΔK event. I would love to meet you.
Yours in O∆K,

Jennifer L. Waller, Ph.D. President and Chief Executive Officer
