Higher speeds planned for 2017 By Jamie Henneman The Independent Staff The local telephone and internet provider, CenturyLink, is planning on upgrading equipment this year with hopes of bringing increased internet speeds to customers in the Chewelah area by 2017. Marketing and Public Relations Manager Kerry Zimmer said the company is working to reduce “congestion” for their internet services. “CenturyLink is committed to quality customer service. We are focused on improving and expanding broadband availability whenever possible. We have researched broadband activity in the Chewelah area and are in the process of upgrading equipment,” Zimmer said. “The new equipment will provide congestion relief and is expected to be installed by the early part of 2017.” Zimmer said CenturyLink currently offers See CENTURY TEL Page 2

(Brandon Hansen photos) By The Independent Providence St. Joseph’s Hospital has served residents of Chewelah and Stevens County since 1929 after being founded by the Dominican Sisters. For one week each year, Providence Health Care honors its heritage with “Mission Week” remembering the orders of sisters that helped bring care and healing to those in need.
