MOELLERSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE Named for its founder Bill Moeller, The Moellership Program provides selected students at Florida State the opportunity to focus 8 – 12 weeks of their summer on full-time service at a non-profit agency. Examples of past projects include fighting homelessness in Tallahassee, food banking in London, caring for HIV/AIDS patients in Spain, constructing a technology center in Rwanda, designing and constructing a poultry production project at an orphanage in Tanzania, and promoting sustainability in Brazil. ENGLISH TUTORS NEEDED Dr. Jon Dalton is looking for 4-5 student volunteers to help teach/tutor English to about 25 Mexican migrants/immigrants.

These volunteers are needed every Tuesday evening from 7-8pm at the Berean Christian Church located at 6214 Blountstown Rd (about 3 miles east of the FSU campus). No experience is needed since the volunteers will work under the direction of the project director. MULTICULTURAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT!

GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING & ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITIES

Food & Water Watch is a leading national consumer advocacy organization that runs dynamic, cutting edge campaigns that challenge the corporate control and abuse of our food and water resources, empower people to take action, and transform the public consciousness about what we eat and drink. One of our current campaigns, Let Me Decide, is working to pass state legislation in Florida requiring the labeling of genetically engineered products. Genetically engineered food is food that has been genetically engineered in laboratories to splice genes from one species and inject them into another. The FDA does not require genetically engineered foods to be labeled, and so consumers have been in the dark since the 90’s as to the contents of their food.

Here in Florida, there are field studies being done to genetically engineer our oranges to have pesticides inside of them! We need to build the support necessary to pass a bill that will require genetically engineered labeling on all food products and produce. TUTORS NEEDED Seeking commitment for one month, 1 day a week, from volunteers for a small youth group (age 6-18), tutoring in math, reading & homework help. The Center for Leadership and Social Change is seeking goal-oriented, self-motivated, service-minded students to facilitate service projects for the Community Outreach Program in the fall semester. Responsibilities include transporting FSU students in Center vans, so having a valid driver license, current auto insurance, and a good driving history are all needed. Other responsibilities include recruiting, informing, educating, supervising and encouraging the students on the project, helping them learn more about the needs of the community, discover what they are passionate about, and inspire them to continue volunteering. MENTORING YOUNG WOMEN Opportunity to participate in an amazing program for at-risk girls called “Get Real!”. The program meets once a week for an hour at local middle schools in Leon and surrounding counties.

We are in dire need of mentors for this life-changing program!

VOLUNTEER AT BIG BEND HOMELESS COALITION Avago Mud Run, Saturday November 3rd, we need volunteers to help guide participants through the course and various activities.

MULTICULTURAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT PROPOSALS The application for 2013 MLS Presentation Proposals are NOW open. We are looking for students, faculty and staff members to submit presentation proposals for the 2013 Multicultural Leadership Summit and we encourage students and faculty/staff to collaborate on presentations. Presentations should be designed with the following points in mind:Sessions are 55 minutes in length, and should allow for 10-15 minutes of discussion and processing, and presentations should be creative and interactive! NONPROFIT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Do you want to make a lasting contribution to a local nonprofit while earning 6 or 12 credits? The Center for Leadership and Social Change is now accepting applications for Spring 2013 Nonprofit Internship Program. This competitive program is designed to students to work halftime or full-time in the community and develop professional skills while earning credit. Previous interns have worked in: child development, juvenile justice, health services, homelessness, hunger, environment, government, and more.

WEBMASTER VOLUNTEER NEEDED The Center for the Advancement of Human Rights has conducted nationwide projects on varies human rights issues. We are currently extending an opportunity for a graduate or motivated undergraduate student for the fall 2012 semester to gain hands on work experience and service hours. This person would work between 5-10 hours a week designing changes to the existing webpage and making recommendations for future ideas or concepts. This is an unpaid volunteer position which offers both work experience and the opportunity to have service hours recorded on the student’s Florida State University transcript, using the ServScript Program. 50 LARGE: BUILDING THE FUTURE TOGETHER Interns are needed to serve as Case Managers for young at-risk men in our local community. These men are directly or indirectly affiliated with gangs, drugs, the courts, school truancy, and\or at high risk of dropping out of school. The Case Manager’s primary role is to build a familial relationship with program clients and with potential clients. This “Boots on the Ground” corps is the primary recruitment tool for 50 LARGE, and they serve an important role in delivering services. Case Managers are the Intervention Team’s eyes and ears on the street, giving the team perspective on the personal aspects of gang conflicts and violence, and other issues that impact the 50 LARGE family. Case managers are responsible for: identifying potential clients and recruiting them for the program; processing referrals; contacting parents/guardian to schedule an intake interviews; identifying youths’ needs and goals and prepare a risk factor report for the Intervention Team; monitoring behavior in school, at home, and in the community; visiting clients who are incarcerated and helping to reconnect them to services when they are released from custody; resolving conflicts and/or mediating between clients, their families, other youth, and/or agencies; acting as a liaison between program clients and service providers/schools to facilitate client access to services; working with clients who are seeking employment, from helping these youth develop résumés, to identifying their skills and qualifications, to helping them apply for jobs or work with workforce services programs; and conducting program overview presentations in schools and for other organizations in the community.
