WITH WORDS IS ON THE MOVE With Words will present its first pop-up exhibit, exploring the issue of violence against women during November. With Words is a museum-style exhibit that that uses quality research and multisensory experiences to inspire compassion for global and domestic social justice issues so participants can engage in meaningful conversations to create change. The mobile museum will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Union Green on Nov. 2, 9, 16, 21 and 30. The initiative is co-sponsored by the Student Government Association and Women Student Union. With Words’ main exhibit will take place April 3-7 and feature the issues of gentrification, water crisis, mass incarceration and social media.

FSU’s Center for Leadership and Social Change is excited to host the fifth annual Mentoring Institute. The Mentoring Institute was developed to create a space where individuals can identify needs, consider best practices, discuss challenges, share experiences, and strengthen collaborative connections between the campus and the community. This year’s theme is “Mentoring and Social Change: Identity, Influence, and Dynamics of Difference.” The Mentoring Institute will be held on Friday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Student Services Building. The Institute will include breakfast and lunch, two sets of workshops, and a conversational panel. APPLY FOR THE ACC LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUM The Atlantic Coast Conference, or ACC, will be hosting their annual Leadership Symposium at Wake Forest University on Friday, Feb. 24- Sunday, Feb. 26. The symposium aims to engage students with peers across the ACC. Student leaders are chosen from 15 ACC colleges and universities to learn through engagement in educational sessions, keynote addresses, topical content explorations, simulations, and experiential application. The 2017 Leadership Symposium will focus on wellbeing and social change, discussing what it means to thrive on campus and create lasting social change. Student delegates are required to attend a mandatory workshop sessions prior to the symposium, to represent FSU, uphold FSU policies and values, actively participate in the symposium, engage with other attendees, and implement what was learned through the symposium into the FSU community. arned through the symposium into the FSU community. PARTCIPATE IN CULTURAL GRADUATION The Center for Leadership & Social Change, the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement, and the Student Government Association invite fall 2016 graduates to participate in the Rite to A-rakke-ce-tv Cultural Graduation & Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 15. The name “A-rak-ke-ce-tv” is the Seminole Creek phrase meaning “to honor” as he ceremony seeks to honor students’ accomplishments, their loved ones, and what it truly means to be a Seminole. APPLY FOR FSU IDEA GRANTS

Students interested in developing original research projects, product ideas, entrepreneurial ventures, service initiatives, and creative projects are encouraged to apply for FSU’s Idea Grant. Students from all majors are welcome to apply. Selected applicants will receive a summer stipend that can total $4000, $5000, or $6000. The stipend will aid in funding the student’s self designed topic, project, performance, product, entrepreneurial venture, or creative idea. Projects must last 8-12 weeks, and be under the mentorship of a supervising faculty member. Projects must be culminated in an oral, a poster, or a creative presentation at the annual President’s Showcase. Individuals as well as groups are welcome to apply. PRESENT FOR FALL RESEARCH DAY FSU seniors with Honors in the Major thesis research or a culmination of their research engagement area for Garnet and Gold Scholars Society are encouraged to apply as a presenter for Fall Research Day. Fall Research Day will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in the Honors, Scholars, and Fellows House. Students from all majors are welcome to apply. If chosen to present, students will need to do a practice presentation a week prior to Fall Research Day in order to receive constructive feedback. ATTEND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE INFORMATION SESSION Attend the U.S. Department of State Information Session on Careers in the Foreign Service on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in the Dunlap Success Center 3rd floor from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. U.S. Department of State Diplomat in Residence for the Southeast Region, Amy Radetsky, will talk to students about opportunities offered by the Department of State and its Diplomat in Residence Program.


VISIT THE CAREER CENTER PROFESSIONAL CLOTHING CLOSET Visit the Professional Clothing Closet during their new hours at University Center A, Room 4149 on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The FSU Professional Fraternity Council and the Career Center have been working to provide access to free professional and business casual attire through the Professional Clothing Closet. Inventory includes suits, blazers, skirts, button-down shirts, and more. Students wishing to visit the Professional Clothing Closet should bring their valid FSU ID Card, and may take up to 4 individual apparel items or 1 suit per academic year. VISIT THE LEADERSHIP LEARNING POSTER SESSION The Leadership Learning Research Center invites students to visit the Leadership Learning Poster Session on Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 4:30 to 5:30 in the Dunlap Student Success Center Room 2201 and 2202. The poster session will host the Center’s undergraduate leadership studies certificate students as they showcase posters displaying what they have learned though the certificate. GARNET AND GOLD GOES GREEN SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FSU’s game day recycling program, Garnet and Gold Goes Green or G4, is seeking student volunteers on FridayFriday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. to aid in reducing the amount of litter and waste surrounding Doak Campbell Stadium. Volunteers will act as an advocate for recycling to the thousands of fans that attend FSU home football games. All G4 hours count towards service hours on ServScript. Volunteers are asked to arrive at Doak Campbell Stadium 2 hours and 30 minutes before every home game is scheduled to start, and are asked to stay a little while after kick-off. Free shirts and food will be given out to all volunteers. If interested in decreasing the amount of waste and litter surrounding Doak Campbell Stadium please contact sustainablecampus@fsu.edu. VOLUNTEER AT THE KEARNEY CENTER The Kearney Center is a 24-hour comprehensive emergency service center that serves as a point of entry into assistance by coordinating services and responding to immediate needs of individuals and families until appropriate permanent housing can be arranged. The center’s mission is to reduce homelessness by providing a safe environment that promotes dignity and respect for individuals in our community who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. They would like to offer the students of Florida State University the opportunity to join us as volunteers. Volunteers make a weekly commitment to providing service to the center. Volunteers are needed for weekday shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Mandatory volunteer orientation sessions are available every Monday at 4 p.m. and every Friday at 1 p.m. and are offered at our facility, located at 2650 Municipal Way. VOLUNTEER WITH MUSUEM ROCK-A-THON The John G. Riley Center/Museum seeks volunteers for their 17th Annual Rock-a-Thon on Saturday, Dec.3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cascades Park. The Rock-aThon features performances from some of Tallahassee’s most notable arts and cultural organizations. Multiple organizations will participate in a “rocking chair-a-thon” to raise money for the Riley Museum and efforts to restore, preserve, and commemorate the cultural legacy of the Tallahassee community. WALK AT THE ENERGY 5K FSU’s Environmental Service Program and ReThink Energy are co-sponsoring the first Energy 5k at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Unconquered Statue. Earnings from the 5k will go towards helping underprivileged children attend Energy Summer Camp where they will learn about global environmental issues and how to fix them. APPLY FOR MLK BOOK STIPEND The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Book Stipend Scholarship is issued on a competitive basis to fulltime undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to service, leadership and social justice. NATIONAL OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SCHOOL SEEKS INTERN National Outdoor Leadership School, or NOLS, seeks a sustainability intern at the NOLS headquarters in Lander, Wyoming from Jan. to May 2017. The sustainability intern will assist the environmental stewardship & sustainability director and sustainability coordinator with a variety of tasks related to sustainability initiatives at NOLS, community outreach, and public policy. Projects may include managing carbon data, working with various NOLS campuses to research sustainability opportunities, organizing an Earth Day outreach event, creating engaging outreach material for NOLS sustainability, and participating in broader NOLS activities. A bi-weekly stipend of $125 is provided, and the intern is expected to work 20 hours per week.
