DIRECTOR'S CORNER The q u e s t f o r o u r s i t e i s a s f r u s t r a t i n g a s a k i d l o o k i n g i n the window o f a candy s t o r e c l o s e d f o r v a c a t i o n . The g o o d i e s a r e t h e r e , b u t no one knows when the s t o r e w i l l be o p e n e d . Any r e d b l o o d e d government o f f i c i a l w o u l d s h r u g o f f the c o u n t l e s s c o n f e r e n c e s , memos, d r a f t s , s t u d i e s , and guidelines as their basic v i t a l support system. T o me, i t i s l i k e a v i s i t t o a d i s t a n t p l a n e t , where the breath of l i f e is paper. D o n ' t m i s u n d e r s t a n d ; a l l the p e o p l e were f r i e n d l y and s y m p a t h e t i c , a s t h e y c h e e r f u l l y s h u f f l e d our papers through the p r e o r d a i n e d p r o c e s s e s . Y e s , t h a t temporary p e r m i t i s what a y e a r ' s d e l i b e r a t i o n was a l l a b o u t . Remember, waterways a r e p u b l i c property. We w i l l be watched to see t h a t we p r o m p t l y and t a s t e f u l l y use the s i t e f o r p u b l i c b e n e f i t . I n a d d i t i o n t o the s i t e p e r m i t , w e must o b t a i n a S h o r e l i n e s Management p e r m i t , a Corps o f E n g i n e e r s p e r m i t , a h y d r a u l i c p e r m i t from the S t a t e Department of F i s h e r i e s and Game, sewer p e r m i t , e l e c t r i c a l p e r m i t , more i n s u r a n c e t o r e l i e v e the C i t y o f l i a b i l i t y , and a bond t o s a f e g u a r d the C i t y from h a v i n g t o remove sunken o r abandoned s t r u c t u r e s . We s h o u l d have a l l t h e s e m a t t e r s c l e a r e d up about the time of the Wooden B o a t Show, J u l y 3 , 4 , 5 .
