Here are a few teeth care tips to maintaining a healthy smile. Brush twice daily for at least two minutes in the morning and at night. Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against your gums and gently moving it in a circular motion, rather than a back-and-forth motion. Grip the toothbrush like a pencil so you won’t scrub too hard Make it fun for kids, play their favourite song when they brush and make it a family thing. Remember kids don’t have the dexterity to effectively brush their own teeth until they can write their own name or tie shoe laces (usually age 6 -7) Make sure you change your toothbrush every 3 months and don’t share toothbrushes. Use a fluoride containing toothpaste, it strengthens you teeth and reduces cavity formation by up to 40%. Floss gently twice daily to remove plaque in between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Be sure to clean your tongue with a scraper or tooth brush to reduce the amount of bacterial build up and keep your breath smelling fresh Eat healthy food and limit snacks between meals. Firm, crunchy foods such as apples, raw carrots and celery can help clean your teeth, gravitate towards such snacks. Can’t brush after a meal, be sure to eat a cube of cheese, it stimulates salivary production and promotes food clearance. Drink lots of water not only does it clear off any food debris but it also reduces bad breath. It also has great benefits for your body as a whole. Curb your bad habits such as nail biting, chewing on pencils excessive alcohol consumption, smoking to name a few as they have negative effects on your teeth and oral health. Visit your dentist twice a year for a thorough cleaning. Any gum disease and cavities can be spotted at an early stage and treated to prevent lengthy and expensive treatment at a later stage. Avoid only going to the dentist when you feel pain as in most cases it will be too late and extensive treatment is needed. Encourage children to visit the dentist at an early stage. Parents should avoid inflicting any dental treatment fears on them. Take them with to your dental check ups and let them watch. Remember the cliché - prevention is better than cure!

In May I traveled to London with Etihad airways, I flew Business class which is most def the way to fly as I had no jet lag at all. I flew via Abu Dhabi which was beautiful. While in London I stayed with some family. The time there was great I enjoyed it being back there after over 20 years as I was there in 1994-1995. I stayed in a place called St Albans which is about 20 minutes outside of London. During my time there I was able to visit the Harry Potter studio where the movies were filmed, that was in Watford and it was really an amazing experience to see the studio and all the props from the movie. Being a fan of the Premier League I am a supporter of Arsenal and have been ever since I was in the UK back in 1994. I was honored to visit the stadium and to tour the stadium seeing the changing rooms, sitting on Wenger's seat as well as walking through the players tunnel. Above all that I was able to watch Arsenal in action where they played Sunderland at home winning 2-0 which was a dream come true as I had never seen Arsenal live in action before. While in the UK I was able to visit London seeing Buckingham Palace, London Bridge, Houses of Parliament and all the other sites which was truly amazing. When I was there before I was not able to do that but being a little older I was able to. The Public transport system is really great, the trains are frequent and safe. No one uses their car if they don't have to, they either use public transport or walk which was something new to me. I did a lot of walking haha. When I went around I felt very safe and the people are very friendly. Surprisingly when I was there the weather was very hot, yes it did rain but there a few very hot days where I actually did sweat which to me was very strange but nice at the same time. During my time I was able to see family at friends that I have not seen for over 20 years which was so nice, we often in this busy world that we live in with all the technology forget that seeing someone in real life is far better than speaking to someone over the phone. We should never substitute a phone with real life. It is not the same.

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES On my way back I flew via Abu Dhabi and got to stay the night at the Premier Inn which was right by the airport where you actually just walk from the airport into the hotel. I felt like a kid again watching all the planes etc that I had very little sleep but it was very nice. The next morning I woke up and walked out the hotel crossing the road to the airport as I went a different way deciding to get some fresh air but my goodness it was hot. 40 degrees hot. I could not last a few minutes outside let alone a whole day lol. But Abu Dhabi is clean and has become a holiday destination of its own. Overall my experience was great and I managed to capture a lot of my trip on the Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 which will be aired on my TV show. My TV show Talking Point with Steven Taylor airs on Deen TV which goes out on OVHD and StarSat. My show premiers on a Saturday evening at 7:30pm on Deen TV and is repeated Monday 10:30am and Wednesday 2:30pm. The Youth of Maitland is a charity organisation established during Ramadan 2010 when a group of youth from Maitland felt the need to give back to the community. The group also realised the need to empower the youth within the area due to social issues at the time. Running charity drives seemed to be a constructive way of getting the youth involved. With this vision in mind, we have organised a number of charity events over the past eight years. Through our projects, we try to create awareness about the constraints and needs of people within underprivileged communities. Our main focus for now is to run charity events during the month of Ramadan. Some of our previous events include: 1. Iftaar Evenings, Ramadan 2010 - 2013 - Hosted for Vision Child and Youth Care Centre, Garden Village and Factreton Community members, Mannenberg Place of Safety and IHATA Shelter for Abused Woman and Children 2. Soup Kitchens and Food Hamper Drives, Ramadan 2014 - 2016 - Distribution Areas: Factreton, Bonteheuwel, Seawinds, Lavender Hill, Dunoon, Belhar, Delft, Tafelsig, Bridgetown. 3. Ramadan 2017 - This year we ran three food distribution drives and also hosted an iftaar evening. We were able to cook 16 pots of food, bought 650 loaves of bread which was distributed in Factreton, Bonteheuwel, Seawinds, and Lavender Hill, Hanover Park, Philippi and Maitland Musjid. - In honour of Youth Day (16 June 2017), we hosted an iftaar evening for members of underprivileged communities, orphans and IHATA Shelter for Abused Women and Children. - We will donate fitra parcels as our final initiative for this Ramadan In-shaa’Allah. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our donors for their generous contributions. We also thank all our corporate sponsors; Bon Apetit Caterers, Logo Print, Hendricks Transport, Meals on Wheels, Shuaib Walters for the fundraising auction, goodie bags and party packs, Insaaf & Riedwaan Hiring, and not forgetting our chefs, all the neighbours, our mothers and aunts. We could not have hosted these successful events without the support and assistance of these remarkable individuals and companies, Alhamdulilah. Once again, shukran to each and everyone for your support and we wish you and your family a blessed and happy Eid. Youth of Maitland

Date and Walnut Tart

| - Filling Ingredients 1 frozen pie crust, defrosted in the refrigerator and kept chilled until just before use ½ cup unsalted butter 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoon raw cane sugar 1 large egg, beaten 1 cup ground walnuts 2 tablespoons white whole-wheat flour 2 tablespoons rose water 8-10 fresh dates, stoned and cut in half long ways 1/2 cup apricot jam - Directions Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Place a baking sheet in the oven. Using the paddle attachment of a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar until light, then beat in the egg. Use a food processor to grind up the walnut until they are fluffy and round, about 15-20 seconds, careful not to grind them into a paste. Stir in the ground almonds, flour and 1 tablespoon of the rose water into the butter-egg mixture. Mix well. If using a ready-made pie crust, roll it out flat to remove all of the bubbles. Place the pie crust onto an ungreased glass baking dish. Spread the walnut-egg evenly over the base of the pie crust. Arrange the dates, cut side down, on the almond mixture. Place the pie dish on the hot baking sheet that has been warming in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350º F. Bake for another 20 minutes, or until the tart surface is golden and firm. Remove the tart from oven and let cool. Gently heat the apricot jam over low heat. If the jam is quite chunky, press it through a sieve to get a fine, clean result. Add the remainining rose water to the jam and stir well. Use a pasty brush to paint the tart and its edges with the jam. Serve at room temperature or when completely cooled. If it’s cut when the tart is still too warm, the inside may crumble.

Business Directory BUSINESS TIPS 1. Analyze the performance of your sales team. If they aren’t meeting your expectations, or they are showing signs of ambivalence, shake things up. Bring in new blood working on commission only. 2. Write down everything you do and categorize these tasks. Find tasks that you can delegate to others or outsource. 3. Re-examine purchasing and see if you can improve the deals you are getting from your vendors. 4. Improve your accounts receivable ratio. 5. Look at repetitive tasks you and your team perform. Do they all have procedures written for them? See how they can be accomplished more quickly and be sure you have procedures that capture the most productive ways of accomplishing repetitive tasks. Be sure that you allow these procedures to be improved on over time; don’t fall victim to the “We’ve never done it like that here” mentality. 6. Audit your small business listings on the Internet. See if there are any places where you should be listed but aren’t. Be sure listings are accurate. Check your Google reviews. Encourage customers to review your business on Google. 7. Launch a customer referral program. Reward existing customers for bringing you new business. 8. Launch a customer loyalty program. 9. Research your local competitors and similar businesses in other areas. Find out if any owners may be approaching retirement age or there are other reasons they might want to sell. Talk to mutual suppliers to see if any might be in financial trouble. 10. Survey your customers and find out what other products or services they need. 11. See if there are any of your suppliers that might be ripe for a buyout. 12. Talk to city and regional planners to discover the areas that are slated for new development. Should you prepare to expand to any of these areas, or perhaps relocate to a bigger facility? 13. Talk to real estate professionals to find neighborhoods in transition. For example, if a low-income area is beginning to be “gentrified,” it often means that young families with children will soon become the prominent demographic. Also, check out aging neighborhoods, they can “turn over” to younger, affluent families.
