BEFORE Documentation Travel to Belize requires a passport that has been in valid for at least three months .

Money Don’t waste your time exchanging money before you go. The majority of places take USD and/or major credit cards. 1 BZE = $0.50 USD.

Duty Free Alcohol is expensive on the island so make sure you stop at duty free prior to heading to the ferry. There is a limit on how much you can buy, but most people are able to get 2-3 bottles. Standard bottles such as Jack Daniels, Hennessy, and Moet as well as Belize specific alcohol


GETTING PLANE

There are two flight lines that operate with flights out of Belize City Airport

They go back and forth all day until about 6 PM.

The cost varies from $79-$129 Round Trip.

The small planes are about the size of private jets, so space is limited. You can not bring a lot of things with you.

You are also limited in the amount of alcohol you can bring on board with you from the duty free.

FERRY •

Cheaper than a plane, you can get a round trip ferry ticket for $30 that can be purchased in advance here.

The ferry from the port to Ambergris is around 2 hours, with a stop half way in Caye Caulker.

To get to the ferry, you have to take a cab from the airport to the port. You must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure to check your luggage.

PRO-TIP: When taking the cab to the port, it’s $25 per cab not per person. If you ride with other people, make sure your driver is splitting it fairly.

A bit on the pricey side, they make up for it in the quality of their food. Caramba! Located in the main part of town, this small restaurant has reviews of the ambience making the time. It may be basic but the tastes are explosive. Caroline’s Cookin’ Homemade Belizean cooking with afford able prices. Fresh catches of the day El Fogon Local eatery with island delicacies such as stewed gibnut and pigtails to whole friend fish and beef soup. Rumored to have the best conch fritters on the island. Elvi’s Kitchen Rated one of the top restaurants in San Pedro. The floor is covered with sand but the service is above average. Wednesday nights are a variety of types and prepared-style of fresh crab. Friday night is an all you can eat Mayan Buffet Hungry Grouper Caribbean inspired diner serving fresh seafood and traditional Central American eats. Mesa Variety of French toast, benedicts and a breakfast bites

Pupuseria Salvadenero Visited by locals and tourists alike, PS has rave reviews on not only it’s portions size, but the great prices.
