H

ere, magic happens. Here, lives are changed. Here, hope is found.

For Brighton “here” does not represent a physical place but rather

an opportunity. An opportunity to have a ripple affect on a child’s life that will move far beyond what we can see or even imagine.

Here we believe. We believe in every child, every family, in every Brighton Staff Member and that when they work together the result is nothing short of an explosion of possibilities. Over here, no child is overlooked or underestimated, but rather celebrated and encouraged.

This past year you have showed up here, there and everywhere to support Brighton’s Early Intervention Therapy Services, our Therapeutic Inclusion Preschool Programs and our Special Education Transition Support Services.

You have been here with us, and together we have helped more than 4,000 children this year alone have new opportunities to be all that they were created to be.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve right here along some of the most incredible humans in the world. From our staff, to our board, the families we serve and finally to our faithful and generous donors, there is no doubt that everyone is here for the kids. I humbly thank each and everyone of you for simply being here for it all.

arla and Mark Salinas: They’re the kind of parents every child should have. Especially a child like Noah. He is the perfect example—the result—of love. Of caring.

Of being open to trying. And trying again. Of never, ever giving up. Of searching—then finding —then trusting — those who joined Team Noah. They are some of our very special experts here at Brighton.

Who have proved—over and over and over again —that they have what it takes. Especially when it comes to insight and inspired solutions.

So here’s how it all started.

And here’s how it’s all going.

From almost the very beginning of his little life, Noah did things that were out of the ordinary.

Instead of walking, he tip-toed. He would rock himself and sometimes spin in circles for long periods of time. He didn’t play with toys in ways kids his age usually did. His interactions with others—his social skills—were not getting better. Developmentally, he was falling farther and farther behind others in his age group. Perhaps most worrying of all? Noah never made eye contact with his parents. Or with anybody, for that matter. Imagine how hard all of that must have been for Carla and Mark!

But then, one eventful day, a new opportunity was realized.

Because a diagnosis was made. It was a sensory processing disorder; an autism spectrum disorder.

Carla and Mark remember that moment well: “It changed the way we saw Noah’s future.”

Finally, they learned there were treatments and solutions. There was Brighton Center.

They discovered that Brighton Center had the right kind of people. The right kind of experience. And, very importantly, the right kind of mind set. They know that everybody here is truly invested in helping their son thrive. So no matter what’s ahead, Carla and Mark are confident that Noah is surrounded and supported by the best team.

Happily, this story continues to be filled with lots of things to celebrate.

Noah is really enjoying his Preschool days at Brighton. Carla and Mark have watched a video of him on the playground over and over. He is running and playing with other kids. He feels included; he belongs. They understand that this is very meaningful. And that he has everything he needs to continue to break down barriers and overcome obstacles.

He is a little boy whose future we all believe is limitless. You go Noah! We know you can do it—because that’s why you’re here!

Our Pediatric Therapy and Preschool Staff:

They’re the people here who knew and believed in what Noah could do. And would do.

Long before anyone else.

t’s almost uncanny, this gift Brighton’s therapists and staff have to see the possibilities in every child! An example?

Noah had been making steady progress during our home visits. But later, at Brighton’s Preschool, his teacher noticed that, suddenly, he wasn’t walking as much. Then, not at all. He even reverted back to crawling.

His teacher immediately alerted Carla and Mark, who rushed him to the ER. But all the tests showed that Noah’s muscles, bones, and reflexes were fine.

Was it a behavioral issue? No. Turned out it wasn’t that, either.

That’s when Nathan De Hoyos, a Brighton Pediatric Occupational Therapist, stepped up.

He called Mark and said, “I think I know what’s happening with Noah.” He told Mark, “Grab a backpack, put a few books in it, and strap it on Noah’s shoulders. See if it will get him to stand up.”

Mark was perplexed. How was putting more weight on Noah going to help? But, because of his confidence in Brighton’s expertise, he did it anyway.

And watched, astounded, when Noah jumped up fast. And immediately started walking again.

That’s when Nathan explained how what had been happening was a symptom of sensory processing disorder. And that putting the weight on Noah helped send signals back and forth from his muscles to his brain. It woke things up.

And so, it was yet another reason why Carla and Mark—along with so many others — have put their trust in Brighton. Because it’s been earned. Every. Single. Day.

Adaptability, collaboration, and compassion are qualities that make our Brighton’s staffers great!

Here, two remarkable women have joined forces.

Then they go way, way, way above and beyond!

Gloria Steves Dilley and Kari Lynd: They astound us and exceed all expectations! To know them is to love and respect them. They are positivity, grace, and compassion wrapped up in sunshine. They are true servant-leaders.

And Brighton Center is blessed to have them as champions.

How did we get so lucky? Well, thanks to our long-time benefactor Mike Lynd, Gloria was introduced to what Brighton is all about; she’s been supporting us for several years now. Then, Mike married Kari last year—and soon, she became as committed to Brighton as he is. In the process, Kari met Gloria and they quickly became best friends.

One thing they have in common? They both believe in what Brighton kids can accomplish. It’s the reason why Kari and Gloria work non-stop to connect friends, with Brighton Center’s mission.

Donor Spotlight

In 2023, it all came together when Gloria and Kari were the gala co-chairs of The. Best. Night. Ever. And here’s what you need to know about it.

It broke all previous attendance and fundraising records! It was a masterpiece. It painted the power of positivity and fun. It was a one-ofa-kind event for our one-of-a-kind children. It set an all-time record.

They raised $511K for our 4,000 Brighton kids!

We are incredibly grateful to Gloria, Kari, and their wonderfully creative committee for designing a night that celebrated the abilities and achievements of all our Brighton kids. It helped everybody understand how each child we empower is a genuine masterpiece-in-progress. It was an evening overflowing with inspiration and joy.

2023: Brighton Center Year in Review

Brighton Preschool

2023 AN N UAL RE PORT

Provided nationally accredited curriculum in an inclusive setting for 177 children, with 428,340 hours of inclusive education 100% of children made progress in their developmental and educational skills by the end of the year

Early Childhood Intervention Program

96% of children who graduated the Brighton’s Preschool program had the skills necessary for Kindergarten

Served 3,442 children through home-based, site-based (childcare centers) and teletherapy services 95% of children enrolled in this program made progress in at least one of the three global child outcomes, within six months 74,172 service hours/encounters delivered

Special Education Support Services Program

Pediatric Therapy Clinic

Provided on-site therapy for 112 children, with 5,312 visits 100% of children made progress in one area of development after six months of enrollment Fully integrated Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Inclusion Specialists into Preschool classrooms

Provided 541 total services to parents with children in special education (215 unduplicated), including 122 in Pre-Admission Review and Dismissals (ARDs) and 248 in ARDs 95% increased their knowledge of advocating for their child 100% developed an action plan to set and achieve goals for the ARD meeting
