TWCWT 2016

Diamond Billiards of Modesto, CA opened their doors the weekend of October 15-16, 2016. This is Tim Costa’s third year of sponsorship for the Tiger West Coast Women’s Tour. In 2014 we had 25 players, 2015 welcomed 26 players and this year we had 27. TWCWT added one new player to the roster in addition to our regular tour competitors.

8. Olga Azarova, a San Francisco player who had not played this year at all and whose best showing was last year at Petaluma when she took top 8, would win a match against Naomi Manuel (5), and place herself Sunday to match against top finisher Sher Ahola.

The winner of our previous stop at Diamond Billiards (stop #3 of 8) in Fresno, Shanon McHone (bumped up to a 7 rating), was hoping to repeat her performance with another win at this event, but the 2015 tour champion, Eleanor Callado (7), had other plans. Eleanor would win matches against Cassandra Ortega (6), Sher Ahola (7), and Shanon McHone (7) to set herself for Sunday matches on the winner’s side. In the next bracket, we had our new player, Rae Evans (6), from San Diego who would win matches against Holly Robinson (6), Mary Dughi (6), and Shawn Modelo (6) earning her spot for a Sunday match against Eleanor Callado. In the second half of the flow chart, our new addition to the 2016 season, Gigi Callejas (6), out of Los Angeles (already starting the season strong with a 17-24th finish in Fresno, and 5-6th finish at The Broken Rack in Emeryville) who would win matches against Debbie Leventhal-Hagar (6), Revelina Um (7), and Sue Lueder (6). In the last bracket, we had Emilyn Callado (7), who took 5-6th at the last 2 stops, winning matches against Bonnie Ogg (6), Noel Campos (6), and a hill-hill match against Olga Azarova (6) to set herself up for a Sunday match against Gigi Callejas. At the end of Saturday after a full day of completion, these were the matches on the winner side: Eleanor Callado (7) vs. Rae Evans (6) and Emilyn Callado (7) vs. Gigi Callejas (6). On the one-loss side, we had Shawn Modelo facing Shanon McHone after having won her match against Noel Campos to earn a spot in the top

Eleanor would send Gigi Callejas to the one loss side, making far fewer mistakes than the ones that plagued her at the Fresno Stop where she had a hard time finding her focus, concentration and rhythm. On the one-loss side, Emilyn would battle Gigi Callejas and fall short on her effort. The field continues to yearn for a final match between the Callado sisters as both have an excellent competitive spirit and the matches are always a high level of competition. For the final match on Sunday, Gigi Callejas would challenge Eleanor Callado for the second time on this event. Eleanor would race to 7 and Gigi would race to 6 according to the new handicap system. The first race was won by Gigi Callejos 6-4 but in the final race Eleanor started strong defeated Gigi with a score of 7-3.
