match the NPL-Chix won over The Barbarians 14-9. Some good matches were found in Men’s/Mixed Teams. Surviving a field of 153 teams requires a lot of skill and some luck and good team chemistry. Bounty Hunters (Matt Horner, Luke Thomas, Rod Bair) from Salem had all that as they survived the winner’s bracket to get to the point. They never had a hill/hill match until they reached the winner’s bracket final against Another Gear (Glenn Atwell, Larry Maes, Brian Roberson). Bounty Hunters beat Another Gear 14-13 to advance to the Championship match. Anger Management (Larry Sowell, Denis Young, John Cassidy) took a longer track to the Championship match. They lost their 5th round match to Team Incognito (Jeff Jimenez, Chris Suarez, George Stefurak) 14-8. Then they rolled, getting to the loser’s bracket final against Another Gear and beating them 14-10. That set up the finals between Anger Management and Bounty Hunters. Anger Management from Players

Club League in Southern Oregon had a good run winning twice by identical scores of 14-12 and claiming the title of Champions. That brought the 2008 Championship to a close. The referees worked long hours to make sure there was always someone there to make rulings or a tough call. Darryl Farley was head referee and he had help from Al Hart and Paul Sapp from B.C. and Phil Eichorn from Iowa. Many referees in training were at the event to get their floor time in hopes of getting their National Referee Certification. The podium staff also worked long hours. Without them the Championships would not be the same. Making sure the players all were qualified, answering all the questions, giving out trivia prizes, selling shirts and hats, registering teams, solving problems with tables, players and referees and paying out all that money are just a few of the things they do. And they are all volunteers! Kudos to Joyce Gumm, Dayle and Alex Stroup,

Sassy Campbell, Andrew Monstis, Darcy Moss, Bill Henderson, Cathy and Nate Dunford, Stacy Sherman, Barb Sisneros, Jason Miller, Kathi Giles, Cindy Rosenthal, Steve and Denise Marker, Rosie and Mike Jensen, Sam Rabito, Terry Ludwig and others worked to make this the best ever Championships. The vendors were there for all of the players. Billiards and Barstools and Billiards 911 had a wide variety of items for the pool players. Bad Boy Billiards Productions provided the Diamond tables. They also ran the brackets and kept the tournament running on schedule. The new program that is being used to schedule, print brackets and run the tournament is first class. Thanks to Ric and Bonnie Jones, “Bull”, Billy, Rick Donner for keeping the tournament running smoothly. A special thanks to Bret Kinney and Ron Guilmette from BCAPL for coming and adding their technical support. The talk of the tournament outside of the play was the use of

green fees which was appreciated by everyone. The tables were always open for play and practice.
