"Serve the Lord with Holy Joy!" Bosconians express their profound commitment to community service with genuine enthusiasm In the bustling streets of Chino Roces, identifying a Bosconian is easy they are often seen carrying a large water tumbler, a spacious bag, sporting a wide smile, or donning a sports jersey Beyond these physical attributes, their exemplary behavior is something to be proud of a manifestation of Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness

Nurtured by their environment, Bosconians find their favorite natural habitats in playgrounds Apart from formal education, they thrive on informal learning experiences that enrich their holistic development, guided by the institution's vision statement The preventive system plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of love and security, integral to nurturing Bosconians in a comprehensive manner

Bosconians flourish in an environment where Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness converge to embrace their individuality and passions Guided by a rational mindset and an objective approach, the educative pastoral community of Don Bosco is dedicated to providing students with an exceptional learning experience Various methodologies are employed to integrate values and instill a holistic approach in line with Don Bosco's teachings and values

As a leading provider of technical education, Don Bosco Makati ensures that Bosconians receive a high level of learning experience in technical aspects The Junior High School department offers various technical subjects from which each Bosconian can choose for specialization These include Information Communications Technology (ICT), Graphic Design and Animation (GDA), Automotive Design Technology (ADT), Creative Design Technology (CDT), Electronics Design Technology (EDT), Electrical Systems Design Technology (ESDT), and Mechanical Design Technology (MDT)

Technical courses teach skills that are crucial for securing jobs today With the increasing digitalization and focus on technology, knowledge in areas like programming, data analysis, and computer design can significantly boost success across diverse industries These courses provide practical experience and demonstrate how these skills are applied in real-world settings Therefore, upon completing their studies, students are not just academically prepared but also ready to enter the workforce

This connection between what you learn and what employers need makes it easier for you to find a job after you graduate, especially in industries where competition for jobs is tough

Players, Not Sinners

Bosconians are renowned for their faith and spiritual formation These activities serve as their means of serving the Lord with Holy Joy, regardless of their circumstances Part of the Bosconian identity involves nurturing their faith in various aspects inside and outside the classroom

Despite differences in perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors, it is undeniably evident that Bosconians' faith manifests in how they treat their classmates, teachers, family, and different communities This begins with understanding the importance of being Good Christians and Upright Citizens, applying the values instilled in them, participating in various spiritual activities, and evangelizing others through faith formation These aspects contribute to their social awareness Bosconians understand how to identify and address problems, both within and beyond their institution, in today's socio-political landscape

What defines a Bosconian? Bosconians are intelligent, tech-savvy, gentlemanly, God-centered, socially responsible, and consistently strive for excellence These attributes are the lifeblood of the school, bringing pride and honor to the institution's name wherever they go These students embody the ideals that the school proudly upholds, consistently meeting and often surpassing the standards expected of Bosconians

As this academic year draws to a close chapter, let us take this time to reflect on another memorable and fruitful year It has been a year filled with highs and lows victories and losses, but above all, a year enriched with knowledge and learning experiences

Our publication is no exception; this year, we faced our own set of challenges However, these obstacles ultimately provided opportunities for us to grow not just as journalists, but as individuals

They say, "At the end of every storm, there is a rainbow " As we approach this rainbow, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the individuals who have tirelessly supported and contributed to our publication

To my Editorial Board, I want to thank you for your unwavering dedication and support I am immensely proud of each of you for your achievements and forever grateful for your efforts in bringing news to our students

To the teachers who have consistently supported our publication and our endeavors, thank you for recognizing our efforts and applauding our work Your encouragement means the world to us, educators

Most importantly, I extend my gratitude to the student body for your continuous support of our publication You are the reason we strive to bring news and shine a light on Bosconian talent and achievements May this support endure as long as our publication stands

As my tenure as Editor-in-Chief comes to an end I have a few wishes To all Bosconians, please never cease to seek the truth and illuminate those lost in darkness

To my future journalists, continue to Write to the Lord with Holy Joy; never lose your passion for writing and delivering news to the masses Forge your own legacies, write your own stories

My initial reaction upon learning about this drastic change in the education system got me wondering, why? Is it our VP Sara Duterte’s board running out of ideas, or was it really necessary for the future development of this country?

In the current state of the country, we have more pressing problems to face, yet we are constantly being impacted by the actions of the higher authority a harsh truth that even I don't like discussing

Lately, I have been immersing myself more in recent national news, such as the implementation of the MATATAG curriculum

It sometimes reaches a point where my family, extended family members, and I discuss it, pondering about the future of their children and grandchildren

ACademic Fiasco Fragility in Humanity Coffeesesh:BrewingtheOpinions

The deepest desire humans crave is the feeling of being cared for by another yet, this "caring" soon becomes indescribable; words fall out of the mind like coins from a slot machine Love, we are creatures in search of and deeply desiring the warmth and safety found in someone else's touch It's the invisible string that connects organisms from one universe to another

There are many types of love The very first love we receive as newborns is the touch of our parents, from the midwife who helps us out of our mother's womb. Then, after a few years, as very young toddlers, we're introduced to formal education in daycares and kindergartens to experience socialization Platonic love starts to spark in our lives as we enjoy and laugh along with our peers and classmates, continuing into later moments in our teenage years, where, if lucky enough, we find our first "love "

The sweat suddenly appearing on the back of our necks, the rapid increase in the rhythm of our beating hearts, the shortness of breath, and the rowdy butterflies in our stomachs This is it: our first sighting of our romantic partner or, if that's the person we're truly chasing The person we start dreaming of at night, the person we ironically stay up late to ponder on The person we try our best to talk to and the person we delicately take care of

Additionally, I am not affected by the change, as I am nearing the end of my high school life, and even my age is starting to show While looking at the positive side of the spectrum, the negatives weigh heavier than the positives when you put them side by side

So, what motive did they have in mind prior to the big change? Looking from the perspective of a student, the majority of young kids in this day and age do not read the news, or at least not as frequently, but generally speaking

Some may not even be aware of the change, while others sacrificed their time to prepare and adjust to what is to come I commend those who mentally prepared themselves for something, including the K-10 curriculum It shows a sense of leadership on their part, ready to take on new endeavors in their lives

I really believe in the future development of this country to be good, and this may just be a stepping stone towards that goal, but my expectations are low

In conclusion, the sudden implementation of the MATATAG curriculum has sparked questions and concerns among many, including myself While some may argue that change is necessary for progress, others question the motives behind such drastic measures As a student nearing the end of my high school journey, I can't help but wonder about the impact of these changes on future generations Despite the uncertainties, I admire those who have embraced the challenge and are preparing themselves for what lies ahead Ultimately, I remain hopeful for the future development of our country, but my expectations remain tempered by the realities we face

Then boom, it's shattered You find them with another person, their smile as genuine as the sun rays that kiss you each morning It's beautiful, but it's painful and miserable not to be the subject they chose for their beautiful portraiture You're broken-hearted What now? Have I lost all motivation for it?

You walk home, your thoughts filled with nothing but burning memories memories you painted without a subject to stare at The subject in question? Kept in the hands of their painter and draftsman. Love doesn't necessarily need to be reciprocated right? Or am I wrong? We lose ourselves and start serving for our own But as the days and weeks then turn into months, we become more aware of ourselves

Prioritizing "I" Placing the "I" before our adverbs and decisions We figure out how to cherish ourselves We discover self-love The missing puzzle piece towards the mystery of romance, the self-reliance and independence of both parties when, depending on the situation, they can't be there for each other

This is all too typical, isn't it? The typical tropes of romantic love we envision in our heads But we're well aware that romance doesn't stop here

Romantic love can reach a point in a relationship between two lovers where the "romantic" aspect begins to erode due to age and experience, transitioning into something that remains constant and permanent: unconditional love Yes, unconditional love It is the love that humans need, not merely want or desire This love has always been bestowed upon us by our very creator

Unconditional love is a warmth that cannot be felt but witnessed Isn't it confusing? We cannot feel it when we want to, but it suddenly envelops us like a truck when we least expect this "warmth" from someone What, then, is true love? If all I've said were specifics?

Love can manifest in many forms It can be this, that, and even "those" But one thing remains certain: love is something humans cannot fully comprehend or conclude upon "God is Love," they say If we do not know whom or what Love is, then the same concept applies to the identity of this divine being who created us But because of Love, we exist

jari Decano is the TOSM Youth Makati Ambasaddor 2024

Gerald Shane Jari M. Decano, the representative of Don Bosco Technical Institute Makati from 10-3 Versiglia, was awarded as this year's Makati Youth Ambassador of Makati last, April 23, at the Makati City Hall.

The ingredients of being a Bosconian are multifaceted Firstly, a Bosconian must be academically equipped to navigate the ever-changing educational landscape Secondly, possessing a strong foundation of faith is essential, employing reason, religion, and loving-kindness in every action Lastly, a Bosconian is technologically advanced, capable of adapting to the diverse situations of the 21st century

These attributes played a significant role in Jari Decano's success in bringing home an award from his alma mater, Don Bosco Technical Institute - Makati

Jari Decano competed in the annual search for the Ten Outstanding Students of Makati, where he was hailed as the city's Youth Ambassador The process was challenging, as any mistake could lead to elimination from the competition However, Jari remained steadfast and was determined to make everyone proud He was prepared to make history

What makes a Bosconian a TOSM Youth Ambassador?

In reality, anyone can become the Makati Youth Ambassador In Don Bosco, the ingredients are already on the counter it's up to you on how to make them work Bosconians are raised under the values of spirituality, integrity, and collaboration; the search for the Ten Outstanding Students of Makati therefore places value on these Other than being academically proficient, emphasis is put on leadership, talent, and the ability to speak eloquently And I believe with what I observe within Bosconians, being the Makati Youth Ambassador is a feat any Bosconian can achieve.

What did you feel throughout the competition process?

Throughout the competition process, prayers kept circulating in my mind like a broken record mantras of hope and thanksgiving In actuality, I didn't really expect myself to rank first in this competition The elimination and final round were intimidating, to say the least But, I managed and fought through prayer I've also met a lot of friends along the way it made it much easier when we had each other's support

Who are your inspirations to continue this competition?

My inspirations to continue this competition were primarily my beloved student council president last year, Gabriel Gonzales, who also competed in TOSM last year! He has been my inspiration ever since entering this competition, and I'm grateful for the guidance he gave me throughout the entire process

Additionally, my one and only Gab Padilla! Though he may now be in a different country, his prowess in school always motivated me to do better and be better Thanks, Gab and Gonzi!

As a Bosconian, what’s the significance of this award to you and to your school?

After more than a handful of decades, the crown is finally brought back to Don Bosco Makati As the Makati Youth Ambassador, it's my duty to represent the Makatizen Youth, and to act as a role model on what the essential student should be It's not just an award celebrating excellence in academics, talent, and leadership, but it's also a responsibility, to do your ordinary duties extraordinarily, for Makati City!

The qualities that define a Bosconianacademic preparedness, a strong faith foundation, and technological adaptability - were exemplified in Jari Decano's journey to success His recognition as the city's Youth Ambassador in the annual search for the Ten Outstanding Students of Makati is a testament to the values instilled by his alma mater, Don Bosco Technical Institute - Makati. Despite facing formidable challenges during the competition, Jari's unwavering determination and commitment to excellence ultimately led to his triumph

His story serves as an inspiration, illustrating how the principles of a Bosconian can pave the way for remarkable achievements and leave a lasting impact on both individuals and communities

Small actions create big impacts: A life-long partnership of camaraderie, hope, and love

In the busy district of Makati, Grade 10 students from Don Bosco Technical Institute embarked on a meaningful journey to Calauan, Laguna, as part of their Social Action Program (SAP). Their mission was clear: to make a difference in the lives of a partnered family through acts of kindness and fundraising efforts.

The journey began with a heartfelt meeting between the students and their partnered family in Calauan. They listened attentively as the family shared their daily challenges and dreams. This personal connection sparked a strong desire among the students to help.

Over the next month, the students organized various fundraising activities. They sold refreshments, stickers, pastries, and even hosted an honesty store where trust was the currency. Each effort aimed to raise funds independently, showing their creativity and determination.

During their second visit to Calauan, the students brought groceries, gift packs, and the funds they had raised. They spent time playing games and building friendships with the family. The highlight of the day was handing over the money, knowing it would go towards repairing the family's home.

"After our Social Action Program, we received updates that the roofs, floors, and walls of their house were repaired," shared one of the students proudly.

The spirit of Don Bosco Makati was evident throughout their journey. The students embodied qualities of kindness and generosity, reflecting their school's values. Their efforts not only made a tangible difference in Calauan but also left a lasting impact on everyone involved.

"As educators, seeing our students grow into compassionate individuals is truly rewarding," said Mr. Magpayo, who guided the students through the program. "This experience reminds us of the power of empathy and the importance of community."

As the school year continues, the legacy of the Grade 10 SAP serves as a reminder of the impact of small acts of kindness. It's a testament to how students can change lives and inspire others through their actions, echoing the motto of Don Bosco Makati: to be helpers, kind-hearted, and always ready to give back.

Guro at Pamilya

Michael Lorenz O. Mah
