Some may believe that the latest societal paradigm shift happened during COVID; I say, it was underway years before the global pandemic forced our entire planet into hiding. Our life has become a madefor-real-life Will Smith movie.

2022 will present a reckoning “meta” moment for all of us. That point in time where we must decide if we are, "in," or "out."

Many of us - myself included - are straddling that virtual fence now. But, the more I see where our world is heading, thanks in part to a prolific scene in the 2018 Ryan Coogler film, Black Panther, I'm opening myself up to more immersive digital experiences.

This week's cover story seeks to add clarity; to help our readers better understand that life in 3D no longer requires paper glasses!

As of late, Microsoft and Facebook have been The metaverse has been a hot topic of conversation recently, with Facebook and Microsoft both staking claims. But what is the metaverse? And when will it get here?

In his 1992 science fiction novel "Snow Crash," author Neal Stephenson is credited with coining the term "metaverse." He detailed lifelike avatars engaging with each other in realistic threedimentional places (homes, buildings, offices and landscapes) sharing real-life experiences. His metaverse is an an online world that incorporates augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D holographic avatars, and video via real-time, real life communication.

The immersive world of the metaverse is more than child's play, it's an opportunity to create wealth, find community and become one with interconnected learning modules and teaching opportunities that traverse cultural and other socioeconomic boundaries.

To help you get a sense of how complex and vague a term “the metaverse” is, try this exercise: Replace the term "metaverse” with “cyberspace” in a sentence or conversation. The meaning wont change much, because those words do not refer to any one thing specifically - it's all very nuanced, actually. It's a word that defines how we interact with technology.

And it's entirely possible that the term itself will eventually become just as antiquated, even as the specific technology it once described becomes commonplace.

Shuri sees zero reason to be humble about her brilliance — and honestly, why should she? Much of Black Panther’s fictional city of Wakanda is a world where black women, in particular, are a vital part of life and can ascend to any position.

In this scene, we see where 16-year old Shuri introduces her creation - a metaverse of sorts - to her brother; the future King.

VERSE

In short, the Metaverse is a “place” parallel to the physical world.

In every way.

A Digital Economy This new world has ushered in a digital economy where money matters less, but matters more.

Residents can buy, create, and sell goods just like in our physical world today. In our physical world we can buy a shirt from the mall and then wear it out to dinner with friends; and, you can do the exact same thing in the metaverse.

The 'verse takes you back to your 7-year-old-self, when you dreamt of playing and laughing forever. This time no parental permission is required.

Whether in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) or simply on a screen, the promise of the metaverse is to allow a greater overlap of our digital and physical lives in wealth, socialization, productivity, shopping and entertainment.

These two worlds are already interwoven, just ask Siri or Alexa.

The Ethereum network is at the heart of the crypto ecosystem.

Ethereum, launched in 2015, is the 2nd biggest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin. But, unlike Bitcoin, and its consumer-driven frenzy, it wasn’t created to be digital money. Ethereum was designed to be a new adaptation of a

global, decentralized computing platform that takes the attributes of blockchain and extends it to other applications.

Almost all cryptocurrencies are secured via blockchain networks.

The list of transactions contained in the blockchain is standard for most cryptocurrencies because it enables secure payments to be made between people without having to go through a third-party verifier like a bank.

Payments via blockchain can be more secure than standard online transactions, because buyers and sellers don’t need to provide any personal information, thereby minimizing identity theft and other liability risks.

Blockchain, at its core, is a list of transactions that anyone can readily view and verify. These transactions contain a record of every time someone sent or has received cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrencies, and blockchain technology makes it possible to transfer value online without the need of a credit card processor, financial institution, or bank.

Ethereum, like Bitcoin, is an open source project that is not owned or operated by a single individual.

We are truly witnessing the democratization of wealth, access, power and privilege.

Mulliner collection honors Bentley's passion for outdoors

British automaker Bentley Motors is appealing to outdoor enthusiasts with a new Mulliner lineup. Bentley Mulliner’s Bentayga Outdoor Pursuits Collection has three new specifications geared towards clients with nature-oriented lifestyles. In total, 11 cars from the collection will be handcrafted in Crewe for customers in the United Kingdom.

Outdoor rides

The three models are meant to reflect three iconic British activities: angling, horse riding and dog walking.

These pursuits are subtly referenced throughout the car, with a unique chrome overlay for each theme. Clients also have the option to add bespoke inlays of a jumping horse motif, a fly-fishing scene or British foxhounds.

Other bespoke features include a woodland embroidery scene, a woven wool finish on the interior door panels and a sand herringbone tweed interior. Exterior paint colors are limited to Havana, Cumbrian Green and Magnetic to best complement the countryside car.

The SUV models also include 22-inch ten-spoke wheels that match the exterior paint, illuminated treadplates and a hunter flask in matching leather to accompany fishing and hunting trips.
