Christmas 2017

Rambling Thoughts Tis the season Every year at this time I get into a real slump and have a hard time with it. I run to events every weekend all summer long and then it just stops to nothing. It is a great time for hunting and fishing in Western Pa but the lack of the running and missing being with the crowds is a thing. I am now looking forward to the large shows that will be starting up in January. The first is the Progressive International Motorcycle Show in Cleveland. And then we have the Easyrider Invitational Saturday & Sunday the 10th & 11th of February at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. This is the largest of the Easyrider shows and always a great time. There are a bunch of the top class bikes from Pittsburgh there. Also, spring is the time for all the swap meets in the area. All of the bike shops slow down over the winter, so that is when you should be taking your bike for the modifications that you are looking for, or just your standard maintenance. They will really appreciate the winter business and you will not be waiting such long lines as you will be in the spring. We plan on doing several different things next year with the coverage of events and also plan on covering a lot more. If you are wanting to submit photos of your event with a little information please let us know. This year we have been having some great support from all our readers. We have had weeks with over 25,000 hits on Facebook and have had issues of the magazine hit over 14,000 readers. With the changes we have planned it will only increase. If you have an event coming up please let us know as far ahead as you can so we can post it several times. Also, if you are a dealership, you can share events that are open to the public for free.

For those of you still out riding, please be safe, and happy riding.

2017 Easy Riders Invitational Check out the 2018 show Feb. 10th and 11th My favorite show of the year is always the Easy Riders Invitational held in Columbus Ohio during the beginning of February. This show brings the some of the best built bikes from around the country and as this show proved, even across the pond. This is not a dealers show but instead a builders show where the fabricators and painters can show off their work. This year Pittsburgh was well represented in the show with several great bikes. Adam Barnett Sr. Received 2nd place in Radical Bagger, Jeff Stalczynski received peoples Choice and Bobbie Steele for Best Paint. Congratulations to Steve Wisniewski from Royal Reign Artistry and Unit Six Motoring LLC for some great work. I have not received the list of winners from Easy Riders yet. The top winner was TRIDENT a motorcycle created by Mr. Masao Inoue, AKA MASA from Revolt Custom Cycles in Japan. More of his work can be seen at www.revolt-cc.com See all the photos HERE

The Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, PA

MotoAmerica The Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, PA was the location for round 8 of MotoAmerica s 10 round schedule that was spread out over a six month span. MotoAmerica is the nation's top series for motorcycle racing. Their first visit to the Pitt Raceway brought with them the largest crowd that the Pitt Raceway has ever seen, and gave the spectators a show that you just cannot see every day with, the highest level of motorcycle racing in America. MotoAmerica brought a three day festival of speed to the 2.8 mile track that has 19 turns and is situated on a 400 acre complex about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, PA. As the teams arrived to the new location, they encountered a new track that brought top-level motorcycle racing to a location that has no hometrack advantage. That brought a lot of excitement for all the riders that were eager to test out the new track.

Humor to relieve stress Legally speaking A lawyer, who had a wife and 6 children, needed to move because his rental agreement was terminated by the owner who wanted to reoccupy the home. The lawyer was having a lot of difficulty finding a new rental large enough for his family, and then when he disclosed that he had 6 children, no one would rent a home to him because they felt that the children would put too much of a risk for damage along with extra wear and tear. Frustrated, he was tempted to lie about how many kids he had, but as a lawyer he didn t want to compromise his integrity. The next day he sent his wife for a walk to the local cemetery with five of their six kids. He took the remaining child with him to see rental homes with the real estate agent. He loved one of the homes and the price was right. The agent asked: "How many children do you have? He answered quietly: "Six." The agent asked: "Six! Where are the others?" With his best courtroom sad look answered, "They're in the cemetery with their mother." Is it any wonder why so many politicians are lawyers?

The Psychiatrist A guy went to a psychiatrist because he was having severe problems with his sex life. The psychiatrist asked him a lot of questions, but he couldn't get a clear picture of the problems. Finally he asked, "Do you ever watch your girlfriend's face while you're having sex?" "Well, yes, I did once." "And how did she look?" Continued

Humor to relieve relieve Humor to stress "Oh boy, she looked very angry!" At this point the psychiatrist felt that he was really getting somewhere. "Well that's very interesting, we must look into this further. Now tell me, you say that you have only seen your girlfriend's face once during sex. That seems somewhat unusual. How did it occur that you saw her face that time?" "She was watching us through the window."

In The Restaurant A father walks into a restaurant with his young son. He gives the young boy three nickels to play with to keep him occupied. Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face. The father realizes the boy has swallowed the nickels and starts slapping him on the back. The boy coughs up two of the nickels but keeps choking. Looking at his son, the father is panicking, shouting for help. A well dressed, attractive, and serious looking woman, in a blue business suit is sitting at a nearby table reading on her laptop and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the restaurant. Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy's' testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the last nickel, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand. Releasing the boy's testicles, the woman hands the nickel to the father and walks back to her seat at the coffee bar without saying a word. As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, "I've never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are you a doctor?" "No," the woman replied. "I'm with the IRS."

The Progressive International Motorcycle Show

The Progressive International Motorcycle Show is one of the most exciting motorcycle events we make it to, and I was thrilled when I got an email with press credentials to attend the 36th annual tour in Cleveland at the IX Center again this year. The Progressive International show is the industry s introduction to the new line of bikes for the year, and they report more than 800 brands exhibiting on the tour, and the largest custom motorcycle competition in the nation, the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show. In addition to being one of the largest events in the area, the Cleveland stop on the tour comes at a perfect time. It s in the dead of winter, when all but the hardest riders have their bikes put away, and everyone is itching for a chance to get back out. We arrived in Cleveland bright and early, driving through quite a winter storm on the way. The lake effect meant the roads were covered, and it made for a hell of a drive, but we weren t about to let a little weather stop us. The stop this year featured all of the big brands everyone expects, with some hot new models. We saw display models and talked with reps from HarleyDavidson, BMW, Victory, KTM, and all the rest of the brands that everybody expects, but as usual, there were a few things that stand out. One of the big surprises for me was when we were talking with a Honda dealer, and he informed me that almost every motorcycle that does the tour is completely destroyed at the end of the tour, and is not sold. It makes sense when you think about it, since the bikes are moved around so much, touched by so many people, and bounced all over the country, but it seems kind of mind blowing that brand new models that have never been started, with $50,000 price tags will be smashed into a little cube of scrap, instead of sold. Makoto Endo was present again, doing large paintings of motorcycles. Makoto is a Japanese artist who worked in advertising for more than two decades. In 2011 he changed careers, and started painting full time. He has painted landscapes and portraits, but the area where he truly shines is with motorcycles. He uses ink and chopsticks to paint large images with an incredible amount of detail. I was excited to see him again, and could have spent the entire day just watching him work. His passion is evident, and his talent is beyond words. I can t begin to describe his art, and can only say it is breathtaking.

The Progressive International Motorcycle Show One of my favorite things from this year was a unique piece of art. It s an old Penton motorcycle wheel that sat forgotten somewhere while a tree grew through it. Beside the wheel is a poem, written by Rusty Pyle, the man who owns the wheel. It s a thoughtful little piece, and it s also exciting to see something touring around the nation that is local. Rusty is from Mars, PA, right around the corner from us. There was an awesome stunt show with several riders aweing the audience, and we ve included a set of pictures, but check out our Facebook page for videos. Stunt shows are always a huge attraction, and we watched it twice. The first time we underestimated how large the crowd would be, but we made sure to get there early to be close to get some great shots the second time around. One of the biggest attractions at the Progressive International Tour is the custom bike show, and we can t leave that out. Although we saw hundreds of motorcycles, there are a few that really stand out. This year s winners are divided into ten categories. The Freestyle Class winner is Austin Andrella, of Austin Martin Originals, with a 1976 SX 650. The Runner Up was Scott Colosimo with Cleveland CycleWerks, and a 2017 Heist. The Modified Harley Class winner is Dusty Pine, with a 1993 Harley-Davidson Sportster, and the Runner Up is Wayne Raeke, with a 2012 Harley-Davidson Softail Slim, named Lue. The Modified Retro Class winner is another bike by Austin Andrella, with Austin Martin Originals, winning with a 1969 Triumph named Ole 69 er. The Runner Up is Dani Pajak, of Disowned Customs, with a 1993 Harley Sportster named Copper Chopper. The Modified Custom Class winner is Tony Odom of Fancy Cycle, with a 2003 Hayabusa named The Scorpion Bike . The Runner up is Jessi Combs and Theresa Contreras with, Real Deal, a 2016 BMW R Nine T. The Best Paint Class winner is Eddie Slovensky, with Mr. Classic, a 2003 Harley Electra Glide Classic. The People s Choice winner is Dell Battle of Dangerous Designs, with their 1991 Sportster, 72 Style Sporty. The Originality Award went to Ala Yahya of ZASH Blade Motorcycle with a 2017 ZASH Detroit Blade. The Ingenuity Award went to Philip Hudson, with a 1980 Suzuki GS750. See all the photos

Yankee Lake 25th annual Fall Motorcycle Swap Meet Sunday November 5th It was a rainy Sunday morning on November 5th when I arrived at Yankee Lake for the 25th annual Fall Motorcycle Swap Meet. I was surprised that the parking lot was full and there were people wandering around everywhere. Due to the rain, the outdoor vendors were slim, but it was a full house inside. This is one of the few remaining Old Skool biker events left in the area. At this meet, held at the Yankee Lake Ballroom, you can find new and used parts and some whole bikes for the British, American, Metric and Harley-Davidson. There were several new vendors along with a lot of the regulars. They gave me the date for the Spring Swap Meet and it will be on March 25, 2018. If you are looking for anything, this is the place to be
