AUGUST The Bikers Trading Post

Page 1

Rambling Thoughts Oh, what a summer. July and August have non-stop events all month long. There were several A.B.A.T.E. parties, and runs every time you turn around. Bike nights were happening everywhere, but the weather was not very kind to a lot of them. It seems like this summer, every event either just dodged the rain or hit some somewhere along the way. For August, The Bikers Trading Post has already covered the flat track races in Cleveland, and we also attended the fun-filled Fuel Cleveland. We will also be at the antique motorcycle show in Cleveland. There is so much excitement in the area this time of year. The Bikers Trading Post is working with Trash Biker Apparel, offering some shirts for sale and building their catalog. Their saying is, “We have something that will offend anybody. Check them out HERE, but I did warn you. Most shirts are $15.00 with free shipping. Beautiful friend of the magazine. Barbie, has been working her magic on an Instagram account for us. She finally got me out of Low Tech Hell, and we’ll be posting from all our events from now on. Follow @thebikerstradingpost and check it out. I plan on trying to keep it as active as I can. There are several changes this year in our coverage of events. First, if we post the event online, you may download the photos for free to be used for any noncommercial use. If you need a printing release, please let me know. We are only able to cover so many events; normally only one per Saturday. If you want to take photos of your event and write a brief summary, please send them to thebikerstradingpost@gmail.com Finally, we now have a 10x10 vendor display at some local events. We bring flyers for other events, information about us, shirts and other merchandise for sale, and occasionally, one of the models from our magazine is available to give autographs and pose for photos with attendees and their bikes. If you are interested in having us at your event, please let me know. If you want continuous updates and a reminder the week of the events, check out our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/thebikerstradingpost/ Last week we had one post get over 1240 hits. It is normal for the events to have 300 to 500 views the first day or two. https://www.facebook.com/thebikerstradingpost/ or check out our web page at www.thebikerstradingpost.com . As always, please ride safe.

Bob Roth One Final Ride I received this sometime in late April or early May and was really touched by it: “To my brothers and sisters, family and friends, I would like to invite you to one final ride with me. It would give me great honor if you could find it in your loving hearts to ride with me in one final final ride. I am hoping this one final ride will lead to two, then three, then who knows how many. But my health is declining fast and my doctors seem to think I have about six to twelve months before the good Lord lays me to rest. We are hoping to prove these doctors wrong, but only time will tell. Bob Roth was in need of a double lung transplant, but due to complications, it was unable to happen. Bob passed away 06/10/2018 at the age of 53, but he did get his wish of a final ride. Friends turned this into an “in memory of" run that took place on June 30th. For several years, Bob participated in and/or organized numerous rides to benefit others in several states. The weather was beautiful, and the turnout was great. Bob did get his one last symbolic ride in. The images I shot are HERE. Click that link and you are welcome to download your images for free.

Roar on the Shore One of the largest bike rallies in the country comes to western PA in July each year. This year marks the 12th annual rally, and organizers estimate that 170,000 people attended. Roar on the Shore includes nationally known entertainment and some of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world. Downtown Erie is filled with around 100 vendors from all over the country selling everything related to the motorcycle industry and much more. Vendors sold beer from wagons pulled through the streets, and every entertainment spot in the area had full indoor and outdoor bars. The entertainment featured Zoso, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, L.A. Guns, Chrome, Cinderella’s Tom Keifer, and my all-time favorite, The Outlaws, put on a great show. The best part — all this entertainment was free. Jason Britton’s “No Limits” stunt show entertained the crowd several times over the weekend with some extreme riding and great showmanship. There are always bikes lined up and down State Street, taking up as many as 11 blocks. There is a constant parade of bikes running the circle down to the hub, with crowds watching them go by. The largest ride for the event is the annual Bringin’ in the Roar parade. The parade gets an estimated 3,000-5,000 bikers every year. Starting at Presque Isle Downs & Casino, the parade works its way north to the center of Erie. This year, Rich Harrison from TV’s “Pawn Stars” was the the Grand Marshal. The whole route was lined with people watching. Between 20,000-25,000 people watch from the sidewalks. This is definitely an event that everyone in the western PA area needs to attend. Humor to relieve stress Going To Confession "Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl." The priest asks, "Is that you, little Joey Pagano?" "Yes, Father, it is." "And who was the girl you were with?" "I can't tell you, Father. I don't want to ruin her reputation." "Well, Joey, I'm sure to find out her name sooner or later so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti?" "I cannot say." "Was it Teresa Mazzarelli?" "I'll never tell." "Was it Nina Capelli?" "I'm sorry, but I cannot name her." "Was it Cathy Piriano?" "My lips are sealed." "Was it Rosa DiAngelo, then?" "Please, Father! I cannot tell you." The priest sighs in frustration. "You're very tight lipped, and I admire that. But you've sinned and have to atone. You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months. Now you go and behave yourself." Joey walks back to his pew, and his friend Franco slides over and whispers, "What'd you get?" "Four months vacation and five good leads..."

How Many Cats Do You Have Teacher: “If I gave you two cats and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?” Johnny: “Seven!” Teacher: “No, listen carefully… If I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?” Johnny: “Seven.” Teacher: “Let me put it to you differently. If I gave you two apples, and another two apples and another two, how many would you have?” Johnny: “Six.” Teacher: “Good. Now if I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?” Johnny: “Seven!” Teacher: “Johnny, where in the heck do you get seven from?!” Johnny: “Because I’ve already got a freaking cat!”

Humor to relieve relieve Humor to stress The Mailman’s Last Day It was the mailman’s last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same Neighborhood. When he arrived at the first house on his route he was greeted by the whole family there, who congratulated him and sent him on his way with a big gift envelope. At the second house they presented him with a box of fine cigars. The folks at the third house handed him a selection of terrific fishing lures. At the fourth house he was met at the door by a strikingly beautiful woman in a revealing negligee. She took him by the hand, gently led him through the door (which she closed behind him), and led him up the stairs to the bedroom where she blew his mind with the most passionate love he had ever experienced. When he had had enough they went downstairs, where she fixed him a giant breakfast: eggs, potatoes, ham, sausage, blueberry waffles, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. When he was truly satisfied she poured him a cup of steaming Coffee. As she was pouring, he noticed a dollar bill sticking out from under the cup’s bottom edge. “All this was just too wonderful for words,” he said, “but what’s the dollar for?” “Well,” she said, “last night, I told my husband that today would be your last day, and that we should do something special for You. I asked him what to give you.” My husband said, “Screw him, give him a dollar.” The lady then said, “The breakfast was my idea.”

Going To The Doctors A guy goes to the doctor for a checkup and his redhead wife goes with him. After the checkup, the doctor calls the wife into his office without her husband. He says to her, “I’m sorry to tell you this but your husband is suffering from a very severe disease, along with horrible stress. If you don’t do the following, your husband will soon die: Every morning, make him a healthy breakfast. Always be pleasant towards him, and make sure he’s in a good mood. For lunch make him a nice, nutritious meal. And for dinner prepare an especially nice meal for him. Make sure you don’t burden him with chores. And don’t discuss your problems with him, because it’ll only make his stress even worse. And most importantly. make love with your husband every night and you must satisfy his every whim. If you can do this for the next year, I think your husband will get better and regain his health.” After this, the redhead leaves the doctor’s office and walks out of the building with her husband. As they do so, the guy asks his wife. “So what did the doctor say to you?” The redhead replies, “You’re going to die.”

West Erie Gears & Grub Bike Week Roar on the Shore contracts all their food to one out of town vendor. Some of the local food vendors got together and created their own event where you can get the finest food during the Bike Week events along with some entertainment. Great job and great food.

BikeFest 2018 BikeFest is a one-week event held by HarleyDavidson of Erie. It was thought that as many as 20,000 people would attend this event, but from what I saw on Friday and Saturday, I estimate it was much more than that. There was not a place to put another bike, and the flow never stopped the whole time I was there. The motorcycle activities include rides through the area’s beautiful countryside, consisting of northwest Pennsylvania, western New York, and eastern Ohio. At the dealership there was food and beverages, live entertainment, vendors from the motorcycle industry, music, contests, and more. They also have the only bike competition in the area, and I saw a few people that drove well over 100 miles to enter their motorcycles. This is a real boost for the area bike community. Thank you, Erie Harley-Davidson, for a great job

I am 23, born and raised in Lawrence county pa. Have been modeling off and on since 2013. I was Miss Yankee Lake Truck Night 2017. I Enjoy fishing, riding quads, bonfires and dancing, but my real passion is horses. I have been riding since I was 7. My dream is to one day have my own horse farm.

Thunder in the Country It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon for Thunder in the Country, a great party hosted by Lawrence County A.B.A.T.E. Their annual party had a change of venue, to the Town and Country Bar and Grill. It was free to attend, and bands played all day long, while vendors had great wares for sale and excellent food was on offer. Trophies were awarded for the oldest bike ridden to the event, the oldest biker riding to the event, and the farthest distance ridden to the event. It was a nice place to hang out with a lot of old friends and enjoy the day. The event will be expanding next year, and I think it will continue to be a place where memories are made.

The doors opened at 6pm on Friday, featuring camping and a band. They had a run on Saturday morning, followed by a bike show with some really great bikes, wrapping up the night with games, dinner, and a live band. There was a great turn out and a lot of fun to be had - and hopefully it will continue for another four decades. Photos HERE

The Mayor’s Ride Roar on the Shore

Every year, the Roar on the Shore has The Mayor’s Ride. Joe Schember, the Mayor of Erie, does not ride motorcycles, so he headed up the parade as a passenger in a Slingshot, leading bikers on a ride around Presque Isle State Park during Thunder on the Isle. Officials with the Manufacturer & Business Association, which organizes Roar on the Shore, estimate the five-day rally could produce a $30-$35 million economic impact to the Erie region. If you were in the parade, you can download photos from the ride HERE for free.

Ryan’s Wings Ryan’s Wings is a non-profit organization that was started after the tragic loss of Ryan Pappa to an accidental overdose. Addiction affects so many people, young and old, and it has an impact on their families as well. I think everyone of us has lost someone that we cared for due to addiction. Ryan’s Wings has several events a year to raise money to financially assist those in recovery, such as sober living facilities, intensive outpatient support, Vivitrol shots, etc. The organization also offers a support group to help the families. Joe Ferraro, a former classmate and friend of the founders, offered to help manage the bike run several years ago and has done an amazing job. Three Rivers Harley-Davidson has been very helpful to us as well. This was the run’s third year and its most highly attended event yet. A golf outing is planned for August as well. 4 Counties 4 the Kids Kat Frye, manager of The Mustang Bar in Mercer, PA, spent a whole year working on the 2018 event 4 Counties 4 the Kids. The fun run is a 131-mile motorcycle trip hosted by the Mustang Bar. Riders travel through Mercer, Lawrence, Butler, and Crawford counties, and all proceeds are donated to the Erie Shriners Hospital. It takes a lot of help to make an event like this successful. All the participating bars were amazing. Special thanks to Walt's for opening up early, and to The Branding Iron for having food for the riders when they arrived. The Clarkhouse and The Rockhouse were also great hosts. DJ Doyle Whenry, Nickle Plated Revolver, and Gary James Pirrung for our entertainment. Without all of you, it could never happen. This run had 263 bikes, over 550 people, and raised $15,147 to be delivered the Erie Shriners Hospital, with some donations still rolling in. FREE PHOTO DOWNLOAD
