Thank You

The show was amazing, the Merrymen truly enjoyed the evening and appreciated the much-deserved accolades and the palpable love of the audience and the performers.

It warmed my heart to see Sir Emile singing along to all the songs and even getting up to dance with Daphne Hunte at one point in the night. Our new Commodore, Peter Thompson, ushered in the night with a great welcome speech, which was a wonderful introduction of himself to many of our members. Our ex-Commodore, Bella also got involved as she was invited to present the tribute trophies to the MerryMen.

We have to thank John Roett who went above and beyond to make our vision of honoring this legendary band a reality.

This was a very successful kick-off centenary event.

The Reviews

"In the gentle embrace of The Barbados Yacht Club, an event that was nothing short of historic unfolded. It was a night where the legendary Merrymen's music a cornerstone of Bajan culture—was celebrated, bridging the gap between the rich past and a vibrant future. The air buzzed with anticipation and nostalgia as an amalgam of youthful musicians and singers took the stage under the approving gaze of the pioneers who crafted the very essence of Bajan music.

The venue's significance was not lost on anyone. Once a symbol of exclusivity, the Yacht Club now stood as a beacon of progress and unity, led by a Black Bajan Commodore determined to repaint its legacy.

The Merrymen, synonymous with Barbados' musical heritage, have been enchanting audiences locally and internationally for decades. Their music, a lively blend of calypso, folk, and other Caribbean genres, has played a pivotal role in shaping the island's cultural identity".
