The summer/autumn season means the return of our community production - with professional actors performing alongside local young people. This year, we have commissioned a new adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s much-loved story, The Secret Garden . The play has been funded by our Commissioning Circle - a group of local people who are passionate about creating new plays. You can find out more about the Commissioning Circle on p.4. Returning to the theatre is now more important than ever as we recover from being closed for nearly 2 years! It has been an absolute delight welcoming you back in to the building and seeing our auditorium fill with eager audience members. We hope to see even more of you this season, and with plenty of drama, comedy, family shows and more, there are lots of opportunities to treat yourself to a trip to the theatre. Plus, if you book 4 or more selected shows this season, you’ll be entitled to our Season Saver discount of 15% Ouroff!*season ends, as always, with our fabulous in-house pantomime. This year we bring Sherwood Forest to Suffolk with The Legend of Robin Hood. It’s people power vs. ‘the man’. Let’s just hope the little guy can save the day!

Thanks to all of our sponsors, especially our season sponor Churchgates, main sponsor Greene King and principal sponsor Jaynic, for supporting us during this crucial period of recovery.

Mary Lennox arrives at Missellthwaite Manor - a house on the edge of a moor; a house with a hundred rooms, nearly all shut up and with their doors locked; a house full of secrets.

Her uncle, Mr Craven, keeps himself shut away in the West Wing - a man with his own secrets to keep. Mary hates this place. Until she meets Martha, Dickon, and old Ben Weatherstaff, who teach her about the moors and the creatures who live there...And about a garden - a garden that remains locked. Mary starts to settle into life in her new home, until one night she hears the sound of a child crying. Does Missellthwaite Manor have one more secret to tell?

Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic tale of friendship is lovingly re-told by Nicola Werenowska with a cast of young people supported by a team of professional actors.

Fri 19 Aug - Sat 3 Sep

The Commissioning Circle supports Theatre Royal’s artistic programme by expanding its capacity to commission new plays. This is a unique and exciting experience for theatre lovers, literary enthusiasts or business owners and entrepreneurs to commission a play and accompany it on its journey from ‘page to stage’. Circle Members fund the cost of a playwright to write a new play for Theatre Royal’s stage. As the commissioners of the play, Members play a significant part in enabling the theatre to produce an artistically excellent and creatively ambitious production each year. Nicola Werenowska’s new adaptation of Francis Hodgson Burnett’s classic story The Secret Garden is the first of our newly commissioned plays.
