any years ago I acquired an old copy of this delectable carol from Piedmont— that area of northern Italy which borders on France and Switzerland, where the carol is still popular. My copy only had one verse, but I have since found another. In my arrangement I have aimed for something simple, as if improvised over a few bass drones: these drones should be sung proudly, though of course they can be as soft as the other parts, but not softer.
