Fantastically rare piece of Mississippian culture artistry. Large Beaded Double-necklace similar to other large statues like Big Boy and others thought to have been converted into pipes later. Iconography of the Mississippi River Valley cultures with possible connection to sites like Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma. Distinct ochre and natural mineralization deposits. Circa 1300-1700 A.D.

Formerly of the Robert A. Whitebird (Waz-hing-ka) Collection - one of the last four pureblood Quapaw Indians and tribal spiritual leader, Board Member of National Congress of American Indians and head of Quapaw Tribal Business Committee since 1956. This example has been documented by the Smithsonian Institution’s Bureau of American Ethnology, and authenticated by Roy Motley and famed Stoetzer Lab of Miami, Florida. Stoetzer is known for examining this type of large statuary, particularly large Pre-Columbian ‘Standard Bearers’.
