Investment Threshold To qualify, you need to invest in residential property (such as a house, condo or apartment) that meets the minimum value requirement. The threshold is currently set at US$2.4 million.

Application Process

Once you’ve purchased the property, you can apply for permanent residency. The application process involves submitting relevant documents, including proof of ownership and financial stability.

Residency Rights If your application is approved, you’ll receive permanent residency status. This allows you to live in the Cayman Islands without the right to work. you’ll also have the right to purchase additional properties or invest in local businesses.

Spouse and Dependents your spouse and children can also apply for residency as dependents under your residency.

With a minimum investment of US$2.4m in developed real estate, the holder and spouse are offered a lifetime grant to reside in Cayman. Additionally, this certificate gives the option for both individuals to work and provides a path for the entire family to Cayman Islands and British Citizenship, without needing to surrender any existing citizenships. To maintain this certificate, the holder is only required to reside in Cayman for a minimum of 1 day per year. For citizenship, however, the individual residence requirements are greater.

Alternatively, with a minimum investment of US$1.2m, this option offers the holder and any qualifying dependents, a 25-year (renewable) Residency Certificate. The requirements are that at least 50% of the investment must be in developed residential real estate. Whilst this option does not provide any right to work, nor a path to citizenship, it does offer flexibility in the holders’ investment. Allowing for up to 50% investment in land, pre-construction property and/or via a local investment. Ongoing requirements are that applicants must demonstrate either a continuous source of annual income of US$150,000, or a local deposit of US$500,000. The holder is also required to reside in Cayman for a minimum of 30 days per year.

Valid also for 25 years (renewable), this certificate entitles the holder and any qualifying dependents, the right to reside in Cayman and work in the business(es) within which they either invest or are employed at a senior management level. Whilst having no requirement for real estate investment, it does require the holder to reside in Cayman for a minimum of 90 days per year.

Equally valid for 25 years (renewable), this certificate entities the holder the right to reside in Cayman, along with qualifying dependents, and work in a licensed employment - generating business for which they propose to work as a Director and have invested a minimum of US$1.2m. The holder is required to reside in Cayman for a minimum of 90 days per year and this option holds no route to progress to citizenship, own a majority stake in the business or exercise significant control.

Legal Services

The Cayman Islands are an English-speaking British Overseas Territory in the Western Caribbean. There is no income, property, inheritance, estate, sales, capital gains or corporate taxes. Foreign ownership of real estate is unrestricted, and high-net-worth individuals appreciate the territory’s stability and safety.

Banking and Finance

As a tax-neutral jurisdiction, the Cayman Islands offer no personal income, sales, corporate or capital gains taxes. It’s a hub for offshore financial services, with a robust banking sector. Access to modern property markets and world-class medical and education systems is readily available. Some of the banks in the Cayman Islands include: Cayman national, CIBC (First Caribbean), Butterfield, RBC and Scotia. you will need specific documents in order to set up your bank account which you can verify with the bank in order to have all the paperwork you need when you arrive.

Healthcare The Cayman Islands boast elite health services and facilities that include pharmacies, laboratories, physician practices and therapy clinics. Private hospitals and clinics provide high-quality care. Health insurance is essential and required by law for every resident on the island. you can explore local providers and coverage options to suit your needs.

Education The education system includes private and public schools. Consider schools based on your child’s age and curriculum preferences. International schools cater to expatriate families. In the Cayman Islands, both A-Levels (British) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) (international) are offered by various schools. Both qualifications can lead to university admissions, but the choice depends on individual preferences and career goals. Expatriates also have access to various continued/higher education programs on the island.

Importing

Personal Items Research customs regulations for bringing personal belongings, and consider shipping options and costs. Some items may be duty free; others may incur fees. When relocating to Cayman you have a six-month grace period to import personal belongings duty free, anything afterwards will be liable to duty. you can find the full list of common duty charges on the following website: online.gov.ky/cols/faces/colshtc.

Moving

with Kids Moving with kids can be both exciting and challenging. Ensure proper documentation for your children and explore schools and extracurricular activities. Familiarize them with the new environment and search for kid-friendly activities and playgroups in your area. There are some wonderful supportive groups on the island. Connecting with other families can be easy as there is a vibrant expat community and this support can help your child adjust to the new environment.

Buying a Car Decide whether to import your car or buy locally. Understand driving rules (left-hand traffic) and check vehicle registration and insurance requirements. There are no size restrictions on cars in the Cayman Islands (except for Hummers, which cannot be wider than 6.7ft). Some reputable dealerships include Car City, Prestige Motors, G.T. Automotive, Tony’s Toys and Vampt Motors. There are concessions offered by the Government on the importation of hybrid and electric vehicles. you also have the option to import a car to the island through the port of Miami. note that you will need to factor in shipping costs and ensure the vehicle title is stamped by US Customs before shipping. Be aware of import duty costs and other fees too.
