Why is Pattaya a great place for a Sunday Roast? Pattaya is undoubtedly a fantastic place to live, how many of us would swap our lives now for one back home? The answer, is not many. However, we all go through periods when we miss things such as friends and family, or more importantly food! Luckily, you don’t have to worry about that if a Sunday Roast is your particular craving, as the options are so vast! As you wake up from your Saturday night out, what better way to settle your stomach than to tuck into some Yorkshire Pudding and a variety of roast meat? The problem then becomes, where do you go? The old favourites such as The Sportsman and Punch and Judy spring to mind. Then you have Robin Hood at The Avenue, as well as Robins Nest and Jolly’s in the Soi Buakao area. For those living in Jomtien, Hemingways is only 150m from the beach and further down is Tequila Sunrise Bar & Guesthouse on Soi Chiayapruek 1. These are becoming well-known venues for those living a little further out but for the rest of us, they are little gems that we may have missed. It’s definitely worth a visit if you are out that way on a Sunday. You may think that you would expect to pay a lot for Sunday Lunch, after all it’s foreign food! Well, you would be wrong with prices comparable with what you would pay in the UK, you won’t be paying over the odds. The quality, certainly at the places mentioned, is first-class and even the hungriest of diners won’t be complaining about the size of the portions. So, when you have excellent quality, fabulous sized portions and great value, you wouldn’t be thought of as ‘crazy’ if you decided to go every week! Pattaya is a fantastic place to live, work, drink and eat and it seems that Sunday Roasts can now be added to that list. Where else would you find such a choice of pubs and restaurants to go to for a Sunday carvery? There are enough places in the UK that would struggle to compete, never mind the rest of the world! 8

A I came in to the restaurant 2 years ago. Q Tell us about yourself? A I sold my stores in Europe, and came to retire in Thailand. After 3 months, I knew retirement is not for me so I started helping restaurants getting back on track. I came to Aroi and saw the potential so after one year I bought it! Q Best day of the week? A Saturday is beef night. I’m a carnivore which means everything else on the plate is a total distraction for me. Wouldn’t you agree? Absolutely (Ed.) Q Biggest spenders? A Corporate parties & events, which we are always happy to cater for. Q Your favourite dish? A Argentinian tenderloin, the meat is absolutely perfect. Delicious. Q Most popular items? Thai Garden Resort keeps its record of excellence intact The Thai Garden Resort, which opened in 1988, is one of Pattaya’s longestestablished and most successful businesses. The hotel-restaurant business is a tough marketplace at the best of times, but this resort-style hotel, centrally located along North Pattaya Road and therefore close to everything Pattaya has to offer, just keeps doing things right year after year. The spacious, open-air Lobby is the perfect traditional Thai welcome for guests, with beautiful orchid arrangements and original applique murals created by artisans from Chiang Mai. The hotel is spacious at 25,000 square metres, with beautifully kept tropical gardens a main addition to the relaxing atmosphere. The hotel comprises 228 rooms, with no buildings higher than two storeys, which is perfectly in line with the intimate comfort of the hotel. That’s enough about the hotel, now let’s discuss the wonderful food at the Thai Garden Resort, which is a nightly poolside buffet starting from 6:00pm till 9:00pm at just 399 baht Nett, representing outstanding value for money. Naturally, many families are keen to take advantage of our generous buffet, so those with children under 12 years of age are charged just 199 baht, and infants under four years old eat for free. Each night has a different theme. Monday is an Italian buffet (think pizza and pasta); Tuesday a big barbeque buffet; Wednesday is a wide selection of international foods to suit all tastes; Thursday is a German buffet with roasted pig; Friday sees Thai cuisine as the feature to start the weekend; Saturday is an international buffet and Sunday it’s steaks and skewers. Most restaurants in this area are along the beach road as Jomtien second road is only been open a small number of years and is still underdeveloped as far as restaurants go. As you would expect along a beach there are plenty of seafood restaurants in particular at the far north end of the beach where you all find some of the best value seafood restaurants anywhere in Thailand.
