Now more than ever, Pattaya has a fantastic range of expat groceries from chocolates to cheese and so much more.

When the Pattaya Guide started way back in 2004 the options when it came to buying expat groceries and the items that we are more familiar with, was somewhat limited.

We all used to be waiting for friends and family to be coming from ‘home’ armed with suitcases full of tinned salmon, Branston Pickle and the chocolates that we all know and love.

Thankfully, that has all changed massively in the last few years with lots of shops around the city stocking a wide variety of expat groceries. In fact, we are lucky that with the advent of the internet we no longer have to leave our homes to find these products, simple searches online usually provide the answers that you need and many offer delivery direct to your door.

There will be many people in and around the city who would crave English sausages and bacon only to have to make do with the local substitutes which fall some way short of the mark.

Luckily, bacon, sausage and even black pudding have once again formed part of the diet of many British expats thanks to the ease and convenience that these products can now be purchased.

It isn’t just the foods from the UK that now fill our stores, you only have to look around and see many products from across Europe, North America and Australia. In fact, every nationality is now well catered for when it comes to all foodstuff and groceries that they would expect to find in any supermarket back in their home.

The options are plentiful and you certainly won’t be left craving for tinned products, raw meats and those sweets that we fancy once in a while!

Amber maybe the new kid on the block but they have years of experience behind them and want one of their customers to sparkle with diamonds in their latest promotion.

Having launched in November 2017, Amber is a new kind of restaurant for Pattaya, somewhat different by having a small menu, not quite fine dining but quality ingredients prepared with care and love.

From visiting their Facebook page, they have been receiving great reviews, as one customer quotes, ‘Belgian creativity with Italian perfection’, but praise not only for their exquisite meals and superb presentation, they have also been praised on the decor of the restaurant, which has light brown soft upholstery with a rustic feel and an impeccable table setting. All of this creates a warm and friendly atmosphere where diners can truly relax and enjoy fine food.

From luxury sandwiches to 36 hour slow-cooked meals, Amber is certainly unique and is proving popular already with locals. However, when it comes to marketing, they’re doing something very different from what most restaurants would consider by offering an lucky draw to diners during January and February.

1st prize is a beautiful diamond pendant from Europe, 2nd prize is a bottle of French wine, 3rd prize a lovely bottle of sparkling wine. Big Kahuna has recently opened the doors on Thappraya Road in the former Pastrami on Rye location, with one of the original owners plus a new American partner.

Jim and Jack decided to open a Hawaiian restaurant as it has not been offered before in Pattaya, one of the main and most popular dishes in Hawaii is spam, similar to the British version. One special meal to look out for is ‘Kolbi Rib’ which is truly ‘Thaiwaiian.’ Some of the main herbs used include tumeric, cardamom and saffron, and then look out for the dishes inspired from the movie Pulp Fiction.

In the mornings, American breakfasts are served from 7am onwards, and that includes your standard ingredients: bacon; eggs (any style); small fried potatoes as well as mushrooms, tomatoes and real ‘P&F’ coffee from Sumatra.

Later in the day, Big Kahuna serve up some great burgers with 8 to 9 different varieties but they have recipes for over 150, so all your needs are catered for.

On the drinks menu, there are a wide selection of house wines and beers including the local brands and imported brands such as Budweiser, plus Hoegaarden and more craft beers will be introduced over time.

Then of course there is the main Polynesian drinks: which are fruit-based cocktails and naturally Blue Hawaiian is on the list as well.

So, why not get down to Jomtien and try out this new establishment; and keep your diaries open for the 4th July…

A August 2015, after a 4 month renovation. Perfect timing for the new curfew!

A I’m from Sweden and a chef by education and trade. Met my thai wife in 2008 and our son Oscar was born in 2013 (restaurant is named after him).

A Would be my day off but i dont have one lol. We are busier during the week so any weekday is a great day.

A A nice steak with lots of sides or some Scandinavian comfort food, delish...

A Our Christmas dinner buffets are packed, but on a daily basis I’d say our 3 course set menus starting from 199B, 299B and 599B are unbeatable value.

A Sundown as most customers come along after the sunset.
