Troy Foods, a leading mayonnaise and salad producer based in Leeds, has been a significant player in the food manufacturing industry for years.
The company produces a wide range of fresh products and ingredients, serving both local and national markets.
As demand increased, particularly during the busy summer season, Troy Foods needed an effective cold storage solution to expand capacity and reduce operational costs.
The CRS Group was contacted to provide a tailored solution to meet these growing needs.
Troy Foods required additional cold storage capacity to meet growing demand, especially during their peak summer season.
Their existing cold storage included an older 4-in-1 Mega 40ft unit, set at -25°C, primarily used for frozen products. However, the company also needed to store an increasing volume of fresh ingredients and client products, which required a higher temperature range between 2°C and 5°C.
Furthermore, Troy Foods had previously relied on refrigeration units powered by diesel engines.
While these units were sufficient at the time, the company experienced high operational costs, including fuel expenses and frequent maintenance requirements.
As the business grew and became more energy-conscious, they shifted away from diesel-powered refrigeration units in favour of electricpowered solutions.
Despite making this transition, their existing cold storage infrastructure was not sufficient to handle the volume of fresh products, particularly during the busy summer months.
To remain efficient, the company needed a modern, scalable solution that would ensure consistent temperature control while supporting their expanding operations.
Troy Foods reached for the help of Kevin Jordan, a local refrigeration consultant with extensive experience helping companies manage their cold storage needs. Kevin had worked with The CRS Group on previous projects and was confident that CRS could provide the ideal solution for Troy Foods. Kevin’s extensive knowledge of Troy Foods’ requirements, combined with his previous experience working with CRS, played a crucial role in the success of this project.
After a detailed site assessment and consultation, the CRS team installed a new 4-in-1 40ft Mega unit at Troy Foods’ facility. The unit was installed on adjustable platforms and connected directly to the building, allowing seamless access to the internal production and sorting area.
To maximise storage capacity, two Mega units were joined end-to-end, creating an 80ft long, doublewidth storage area.
This provided ample space for Troy Foods to store fresh products, ingredients, and client products, while ensuring efficient movement of goods between the storage facility and the production line.
One of the standout features of the new Mega unit is its four refrigeration systems. At any given time, two of the refrigeration units are operational, maintaining the temperature between 2°C and 5°C, while the other two units serve as a backup.
This system ensures continuous, fail-safe operation, giving Troy Foods confidence that their perishable products would be preserved, even if one set of units required maintenance or encountered issues.
The installation process was completed in just three days, with no disruption to Troy Foods’ daily operations.
This quick and efficient turnaround allowed the company to immediately benefit from the expanded storage capacity at a critical time during their peak production season.
We are delighted with the installation of the new 4-in-1 Mega unit. CRS provided a professional and efficient service from consultation through to installation, completing the project within just three days and without any disruption to our operations.
The additional storage capacity has enabled us to better manage the increased demand during our busiest season, while maintaining control over our stock.
Moreover, transitioning to modern, efficient refrigeration units has delivered significant cost savings compared to our previous setups. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.
