TAN Christmas 2016

Page 1

We’ve finished our first term already and how time has flown! It’s been a very productive few months and our students have achieved such a lot! I hope you enjoy reading the Christmas Edition of the TAN and will see just how many truly talented students we have at The Albany.

Our Year 7 students have settled in very well indeed under the expert leadership of Mr. Veares, and our Year 11 students have now completed their mocks. Mrs. Clarke has really motivated them all term, and to help them revise thoroughly she commissioned Tim Foot for 2 days to deliver his revision techniques workshops. We’re looking forward to analysing the mock exam results, and will push on next term to ensure all the students are well prepared for their exam season in the summer. Years 9 and 10 have started their GCSE courses well and are showing real promise in terms of achieving their targets. They are focussed in lessons and are making very good progress in all areas. Ms. Abbott and Mr. Bailey have ensured that all students are well behaved and working hard, and they will continue to support them over these next few years as they grow into young adults.

Year 8 are going to choose their options next term and we’ll explain the process to them, and help them with their choices in February and March 2017. Ms. Down has been instrumental in ensuring that all students are in the correct band, and she will be making sure they are advised individually on their option choices. We have two members of staff who are moving on to pastures new in January; Mr. Godfrey and Miss Green. We wish them every success, and thank them for their contribution to The Albany over the years.

I am very proud of the students and staff at The Albany and am looking forward to our continued success next term. The school is going from strength to strength and I will continue to keep you up to date on all our initiatives and foci as we unfold them over the spring term. I’ll be sending you a letter outlining our new procedures for improving punctuality, and for developing homework standards shortly. I very much value your support in all of these areas, and look forward to next term greatly. In the meantime, I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas and New Year, and a prosperous and healthy 2017. Val Masson Head Teacher
