THE ALBANY SCHOOL “The day started off by arriving at the Hornchurch Sports Stadium at 8:30 am. The atmosphere was amazing, smiling faces everywhere. There was a buzzing of people constantly speaking about the new setup of inter form. I was very excited about doing high jump, long jump and the fun new obstacle race.
Sports Day 2018
We got ready for our races and cheered each
The Albany School Hornchurch held a very successful sports day on Friday June 15th at Hornchurch Stadium. The whole event was organised by David Norris Assistant Head teacher. The students love competing at the stadium and several school records were broken. Sonny Scott, Year 10 broke the record for shot put, Lauren Broomfield year 9 broke the High Jump record for year 9 at 1.39 metres, Lovelle Green broke the High Jump record for year 7 at 1.30 metres. The School have held sports day here for the past 4 years and the weather has always been gorgeous. The students not taking part supported their forms and sang and cheered all day.

day was amazing. By the time we got to the obstacle race, we were shocked by how fun it was. We all sat down and found out who from each year won what activity, it was a terrific experience. All in all, today was amazing, I cant wait until next year!!!”
There was a real carnival atmosphere with the option to try Caribbean food plus tradition drinks and ice cream.
Mr Wimbush Assistant Head Teacher “The atmosphere was fantastic and the pupils really got into the whole sprit of the day.”

Rzone Competition Winner Well Done Nadya Lekarev Nadya Lekarev (7KD) was the winner of our recent RZone competition. We asked for entries of photos/ selfies, showing reading in unusual places and this beautiful shot won first prize! Nadya had to make sure that this naughty horse didn't try to bite her (or the book), but fortunately she came away from the shot unscathed. Thank you to Nadya for sending us such a lovely photo and we encourage her (and all our students) to read as much as possible, taking every opportunity to read a good book.
The RZone run exciting monthly competitions that relate to a different theme each month, the most recent being a World Cup writing competition. Please get involved and enter your responses as prizes are up for grabs. Competitions are open to all of our wonderful students.

Reporting Absences A Polite Reminder Any absence from school due to illness, appointments or any other reason MUST be reported to the Attendance Office by 9.00am at the latest.
Please either call the Attendance line on:
01708 691441 x 232
or email
attendance@thealbany.biz
or via ParentMail
Absences should always be followed up by written confirmation from the parent/ carer. Your co-operation would be greatly appreciated. Attendance is important because your child will not make progress if they do not attend school. If your child receives an attendance figure of 90% every year of their school life, they would miss over a whole year of their schooling. We need your help to raise whole school attendance.
Any students who arrive late to school or lessons will be issued with a red Late Slip and MUST attend a Late Detention for 30 minutes after school on the SAME day.

GOOD NEWS The Albany Spelling Bee Competition This year, the Albany school held it's inaugural Spelling Bee competition. All students in the school initially completed the same 20 word spelling test. The best in each year group progressed to the Year group finals and the best 8 (in the year group finals) progressed to the Grand Final. The finalists then took part in a nail biting event in front of fellow students to crown the winner. All participants had to hold their nerve and composure to spell as many words as they could in 150 seconds.
DOING OUR BIT FOR CHARITY
This Year The Albany School raised £560.00 from both the non-uniform day and the Year 8 bake sale efforts. The money was divided and given to the following charities:
The final results were: Francis Donkor (Year 9) 28 points Aryan Chopra (Year 9) 27 points
£100 to GOSH £100 to Alzheimer’s Society
Max Andrews (Year 10) 26 points
£100 to Make a Wish
Marina Sapiano (Year 8) 21 points
£100 to Water Aid
Isabella Bushati (Year 7) 20 points
£100 to Shelter
Maisie Rowley (Year 10) 18 points
£60 to Macmillan
Darja Zucok (Year 7) 15 points
As the results show, the keenly contested final had a very close finish. Congratulations to all the contestants and especially to the winners.
We would like to thank you all for your generous donations. We feel honoured that we are able to give to charity and make a difference so well done everyone!
The Albany School would like to say goodbye to our Year 11s 2017-2018. We wish you every success and the best of luck for the future.
