Welcome to The Washington Center for the Performing Arts! We are proud to be a world-class venue where the performing arts of all kinds can flourish. Hundreds of events take place at The Center each year, and I’m delighted to announce our 2016-2017 touring arts season. Our presenting season brings national and international artists to South Puget Sound, with easily accessible and unique experiences right here at home.

This year’s season line-up includes unforgettable events: the iconic Rita Moreno in an evening of stories and song; the timely return of political satire ensemble Capitol Steps; the eight-time Tony award winning musical Once; The Time Jumpers featuring Vince Gill and other Nashville legends; Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic opera The Pirates of Penzance; master storyteller Garrison Keillor; and so much more!

Tacoma pianist, keyboardist, and composer Craig Hoyer recorded original jazz with his late mentor Olympian Bert Wilson, and Seattle artists Jay Thomas, Michael Powers, Marc Smason, Greta Matassa, HB Radke and others. Craig will present some of his favorite original songs and debut compositions based on Grimm’s “IRON JOHN.”

DAVID DEACON-JOYNER

Dr. Deacon-Joyner is a professional vocalist in both studio and live settings, and is a composer and arranger. He arranged big band charts for Jeff Coffin, saxophonist with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and the Jeff Coffin Mu’tet, published by UNC Press. Deacon-Joyner has performed with jazz artists such as Bobby Shew, Marvin Stamm, Marc Johnson, Ed Soph, and others.

A trumpet player of the highest caliber, Nathan is a twice Grammynominated recording artist and has performed all over the world, including appearances on NPR’s Fresh Air and the Conan O’Brien Show. This 1921 radical interpretation sees Hamlet as a female character - a princess forced to masquerade as a man by her scheming mother. From this follows Hamlet's secret passion for Horatio and rivalry with Ophelia for his love. Starring Danish actor Asta Nielsen, the New York Times said this film, "holds a secure place in class with the best." Featuring guest Michael Tsalka on fortepiano and harpsichord and a Mezzo-Soprano vocalist.

Ramรณn Novarro stars as the rebellious Israelite prince who crosses paths with the Messiah on his quest for vengeance in this 1924 classic.

The epic chariot race has gone down in history for its influence on modern camera techniques, and with a production budget of 3.9 million dollars you will see why Ben-Hur was the most expensive film of the silent era!

Entertainment Explosion

Close to 60 volunteers, ages 52-88, present a musical concert at the Washington Center each March. “A Really Big Shoe” benefits over 2,000 homeless and needy children in eight local school districts and Community Youth Services.

Since 2007, EE has raised $250,000 for the kids.

Johansen Olympia Dance Center

Johansen Olympia Dance Center has been offering high quality dance classes in a positive environment for 45 years. The Young Arts Ambassador experience provides an opportunity for teens and young adults to develop leadership, workforce, and life skills in order to achieve their highest potential as citizens in the global community. The program also seeks to reinforce commitment to exceeding academic expectations, skillset development, cultural opportunities and fostering new relationships and networks through volunteerism and arts exposure.

Seating Priority

Subscription seating priority is based on three key factors: Subscriber Type – Same Seat Subscribers are seated first, followed by Returning Subscribers, followed by New Subscribers.

FRIENDS Level – FRIENDS are seated by membership level. Donors at the Benefactor Subscribe by the following dates to secure the level are seated first, followed by Producers, Presenters, Spotlight, Actors, Patrons, best seats for your subscription: Contributors.

• Please be respectful and courteous of your fellow theatergoers. Disruptive patrons may be asked to leave the theater at the discretion of the Front of House Manager.

• Late arrivals will be seated at the discretion of the Front of House staff. The late seating policy is set by the Artist(s), their production personnel, and the Front of House Manager, and will vary for each performance. Please arrive on time for all productions.

• Use of cell phones, cameras, or other electronic devices is strictly prohibited within the theater. Recording, video-taping or photography is not permitted.

A $3.00 per ticket facility fee is charged for all single tickets. This fee contributes to the Center’s refresh and renew efforts which keep our facility clean and safe.

Exchanges

You may exchange your tickets for any other Washington Center 16/17 season event.

Exchanges must occur before the start time of the original event and may be processed in person or over the phone. Exchanges Season subscribers pay only one $15 are subject to availability and the patron is processing fee. responsible for a $3 exchange fee per ticket.

Members of our FRIENDS program are exempt from ticket exchange fees.

Ticket Donation

If you are unable to attend the event for which you hold tickets, please consider making a ticket donation. This makes the seats you purchased available to another patron. This donation is tax deductible and you will receive a receipt in the mail following the performance.

To donate tickets, please contact the Box Office prior to the event. †Not all performances are suitable for all ages. We encourage parents to investigate events before purchasing tickets.

Refunds

The Washington Center for the Performing Arts does not offer refunds.
