The Washington Center 2015/16 Season | 2

A Note from Jill... For 30 years the Washington Center has delivered diverse and impressive performing arts events to the South Sound. Whether you enjoy Broadway, rock, country, jazz, dance, classical, comedy, theater, spectacle, or family shows, there is something for everyone here at the Center. Some of the highlights include the return of the contemporary dance company MOMIX, with their spectacular illusions; the return of Hal Holbrook in “Mark Twain Tonight!” (did you know he draws from over 21 hours of material and no two shows are the same?), the social critiques of humorist David Sedaris; come sing with us (in your best ABBA inspired or wedding attire) in a Downtown for the Holidays screening of the film “Mamma Mia!”; The Voice finalist and “Phantom” Chris Mann in his holiday show; the Broadway touring musicals “The Producers” and “Saturday Night Fever”; Arlo Guthrie returns with the 50th Anniversary Tour of Alice’s Restaurant; a very northwest appropriate cirque show titled “Timber!”; and so much more! With such a stellar season, we can’t think of a better time to become a FRIEND and subscriber at the Center. Your perks may include: discounts on your tickets, priority seating, free ticket exchange, and pre-sale opportunities for shows that we add during the year. I invite you to take a moment to get excited for the upcoming season and select which events will play a part 0 in your life. There are always new experiences to be had and memories to be made at the Washington Center.

See you at the theater! Sincerely, Jill Barnes, Executive Director

MOMIX: Alchemia OCT 1 / Thursday 7:30 PM

The irrepressible Moses Pendleton presents Alchemia, his new work for the dazzling dancer-illusionists of MOMIX. It’s all about the art of alchemy and the alchemy of art. Pendleton’s latest creation is an enchanting, phantasmagorical multimedia spectacle full of invention, beauty, sensuality, and humor. Just as he led audiences on a surreal journey through the four seasons in Botanica, in Alchemia Pendleton manipulates the four classic elements of earth, air, fire, and water to produce a show full of aesthetic thrills, surprising metamorphoses, and the sexuality of nature itself. It’s MOMIX at its most magical.

This year we honor the unlimited passion Dennis James holds for films of an era long past. Performing on the Mighty Andy Crow Wurlitzer Organ, a treasure from 1924, Mr. James plays scores original and re-imagined to give sound, music, and life to each picture. This season we explore American films made exactly one hundred years ago. From familiar Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks to a newly rediscovered Sherlock Holmes, step back in time to enjoy the movies as they were seen by audiences in 1916. Each feature opens with a song, an episode of Beatrice Fairfax hand-picked by Mr. James, and the theme from the feature film.
