Name of Artist: Mike Wirth ‫רבדמה ןב השמ‬ Location of Artist: Charlotte, North Carolina Artist Website: www.mikewirthart.com Instagram: @mikewirth Mike Wirth is a visual artist, illustrator, and graphic designer, best known for his thoughtful murals and large public art installations that focus on major social justice issues and his identity as a Southern, Jewish-American. Over the past 20 years, Wirth’s murals, published works, and digital museum exhibits have appeared in New York, Miami, Charlotte, NC, and internationally in Croatia, Poland, and Germany. Wirth is an avid educator, serving as director of the New Media Design major at Queens University, and mentoring programs such as Five Sense, Iconic Charlotte: A Civic Symbol Design Initiative, and The Noun Project. He is a founding member and board mentor for the Talking Walls Festival, Charlotte’s first annual, citywide mural and public art festival. In 2021, Wirth was one of 10 artists-in-residence selected for Charlotte’s wildly successful Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition. Mike Wirth’s art beams us into a fantastical neon-lite future using digital painting tools and Jewish storytelling. A cosmic visual blend of retro-futuristic aesthetics, illustrative self-portraiture, and mysterious deep blue landscapes, Wirth explores a far-off Jewish future narrative where spirituality and technology have few boundaries. Set 3000 years from now, Earth is long lost and the tiny sparks from creation that The Ari wrote about are almost all completely found. The protagonist is named "the Wanderer”, a future being whose prophetic mission is to sift the universe in search of the remaining sparks. Without fully knowing the ultimate outcome of his mission, the Wanderer diligently uses special holographic objects that are also high-tech spiritual tools. Objects like hamsas, pomegranates, and Tallis provide the Wanderer with an interface to command inter-dimensional travel, communication, and other spiritual/emotional tracking technologies. In this epic journey, questions about the origin of his lost ancestors on Earth and the fate of the universe after the final sparks are all recovered follow the Wanderer across the universe and across his own soul.

Name of Artist: Orly Kadosh Location of Artist: Miami, Florida THE CONTINUUM Orly Kadosh’s artistic multi-media works and installation express a collection of mythological iconic metaphors, based on both her innate intuition, and the singular way in which her vision and her homeland of Israel have become interlaced over the years. Weaving her ideas into natural objects and artifacts, she creates new allegories that represent her response to emotional questions that have captivated humanity from time memorial. This installation, “The Continuum” is the essence of that spirit with collected pieces that are collectively organized, displayed and documented as a window into essential moments that reflect her life and her trajectory. The coherence of the objects positioned in an organic way, and the objects such as bone necklace represents albatross, coalesce and transform together into an overall ambience that conveys her concept of the soul. With its capacity to question, learn, build, accept, decide, and ultimately choose to enter the healing process that is possible in art. “The Continuum '' demonstrates the artist's aptitude to interact with her internal chaos. she utilizes objects from childhood from forgotten and faded memories to rediscover her authentic sense of self, After years of avoiding her inner voice, she discovered a more profound and honest form of communication by ultimately learning how to trust her intuition. Kadosh's work consistently deals with two major topics: individual identity and cultural hybridity, flickering through two continents. Throughout the installation, she brings each of the objects to coexist in a perfect medium with its own history while frequently using serene, monochromatic color to represent the spiritual, and colors to symbolize the earthbound. The installation conceived almost entirely during the Covid 19 pandemic, Kadosh seeks to imagine a future that endures beyond the fragile state of earth’s present social, political, and environmental conditions. Kadosh’s world of personal imagery reflects a wide range of emotions against an evolving aesthetic landscape, while continually seeking a synergy and an equilibrium between opposing points of view, primarily between artist and the viewer. In this way, her observations of present human society are often echoed by remnants of material cultures from the past, just as her memories still echo the sound of her voice today. As a result, there is a solemnity in the silence, as the “living” objects create an inhabited room, and where visitors can sense questions to which they have no answers beyond their own visceral reactions.

Name of Artist: Rachel Braun Location of Artist: Silver Spring, MD Artist Website: www.rachelbraun.net Instagram: @rachel.e.braun Embroidery allows Rachel Braun to enter and interpret Jewish sacred texts. Her ideas always start with words from Torah or liturgy. Next, she designs and stitches Judaic embroidery to elucidate those texts. A math teacher by profession, she is drawn to the technique of counted threadwork on even-weave fabric, especially so-called ‘blackwork’ designs that highlight geometric patterns and abstractions. Her work has shown in group and solo exhibitions, including Jewish Community Centers, universities, synagogues, in an American Mathematical Society juried art exhibit, and in other venues. In 2017, Rachel collected her designs and divrei Torah in a book, Embroidery and Sacred Text. She gives book talks and has presented at The Textile Museum (Washington DC), Jewish Study Center (Washington, DC), Hadassah-Brandeis Institute (Massachusetts), Dominican University (Illinois), and elsewhere. You can see more examples of her work at https://www.rachelbraun.net . Verses 25-40 of the book of Exodus describe the building of the Tabernacle (Mishkan) in the Wilderness. The fashioning of the Lampstand (Menorah) is phrased with particular urgency. One verse stands out, with repetitive phrases in an otherwise typically terse Torah text: “a knob beneath two stems, from it, a knob beneath two stems, from it, and a knob beneath two stems, from it, for the six stems that issue from the lampstand” (Exodus 25:35, Everett Fox translation). These words are an invitation to consider the importance of repetition in Jewish life and to find distinction and meaning in each repeated ritual action and moment of study. This verse and other passages from the Biblical text are incorporated into the embroidered design. Their inclusion speaks to the artistry within the words themselves.

Name of art piece: 48 Ways (based on Pirkei Avot 6:6 -- “Torah is gained in 48 ways”) Medium: Blackwork embroidery Size of art piece: 15” x 27” Torah is acquired in 48 ways: by audible study, by diligent attention, by proper speech, by an understanding heart, by a perceptive heart, by awe, by fear, by humility, by joy, by attendance upon sages, by critical give and take with fellows, by acute exchanges among disciples, by clear thinking, by study of scripture, by study of Mishnah, by a minimum of sleep, by a minimum of chatter, by a minimum of pleasure, by a minimum of frivolity, by a minimum preoccupation with worldly affairs, by long-suffering, by generosity, by faith in the sages, by acceptance of suffering, (by the one) who knows one's place, who is content with one's portion, who makes a hedge around one's words, who takes no credit to oneself, who is beloved, who loves God, loves humanity, loves acts of charity, loves reproof, loves rectitude, keeps far from honors, is not puffed up with one's learning, does not delight in handing down decisions, bears the yoke along with one's companion, judges one's fellow with generous scales, leads one's companion to truth, concentrates on study, is capable of intellectual give and take, is capable of adding to one's learning, studies in order to teach, and studies in order to practice, makes one's teacher wiser, is exact in one's learning, and quotes one's source. The attributes described in this Baraita (Mishnaic passage) are remarkable. They do not focus on traditional scholastic skills, but rather on the humanity and individuality of the student, emphasizing that pursuit of Torah is open to all. The design of the embroidery interprets the text, with each attribute for acquiring Torah surrounded by a distinct blackwork embroidery pattern. All are set into an open Torah scroll, signaling that together, this community of learners makes Torah study complete.

Name of art piece: Gates of Jerusalem (Psalm 122: 1-7) Medium: Blackwork embroidery Size of art piece: 7” x 7” In the embroidery pattern, text from Psalm 122 (“Our feet stood inside your gates, O Jerusalem”) frames the eight gates of the city of Jerusalem, including the sealed Golden (Rahamim) Gate portrayed in the center left of the piece. The psalm celebrates the joy of the Biblical pilgrims to Jerusalem, offers verses of thanksgiving to God, and prays for the peace of the city. The embroidered text includes these verses from Psalm 122, verses 1-7: A Song of Ascents. I rejoiced when they said to me, “We are going to the House of the Lord.” Our feet stood inside your gates, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem built up, a city knit together, to which tribes would make pilgrimage, the tribes of the Lord – as was enjoined upon Israel – to praise the name of the Lord. There the thrones of judgment stood, thrones of the house of David. Pray for the well-being of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be at peace. May there be well-being within your ramparts, peace in your citadels.”

Her work explores conditions and experiences of instinctual human interactions through the use of the body, rituals, and the intimacy of a kiss. In performances, videos, paintings and sculptural objects, she calls into question the personal narratives of vulnerability and desire. In immersive installations she invites the viewers to engage and share a private intimate moment in a collective environment experience. The artist’s personal rituals fuse the fragments of cultural traditions, rituals and beliefs into performative actions and objects. About The Kissing Wall series: The Kissing Wall series depicts the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and its traditional Jewish Ritual. Returning to my homeland, Israel, where I visited the most renowned and sacred site in Jerusalem, the Western Wall and performed the Wailing Wall ritual; focusing on the aspect of kissing the wall; examining the intersection between the spiritual, erotic and object. At the Wailing Wall, I also made molds of the stones according to my hand size and made replicas from these molds in my USA studio, creating souvenirs of a souvenir. Following The Kissing Wall Video, upon my return to America, I created my own private wall in my studio made entirely of kissing with lipsticks, The Kissing Wall painting, and also made replicas from these molds (Hand cast stones from mold of Western Wall series). This relates to the essence of Judaism – ‘remembrance’.

Name of Artist: Samantha (Tzivia) Lish Location of Artist: New York Artist Website: www.etsy.com/shop/LishLab Instagram: @lish.lab Name of art piece: Milk and Honey Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas Size of art piece: 18” x 24” Canvas prints available for sale This acrylic painting is infused with a love for the land of Israel. The four corners of the alef are the four holy cities in Israel and the tree in the middle represents the Garden of Eden. The Letter alef is both the first letter of the alef bet and literally means infinity. Space is both an unknown entity and one we have begun to explore. These ideas relate to the way spirituality and godliness are understood.

I aim to unravel the Alef’s inherent spiritual energy by weaving the viewer dynamically through its four corners, choosing imagrey that represents elements of creation and begin with the letter Alef: ‫( אור‬the primordial light), ‫( אדם‬man), ‫( אברהם‬Abraham), ‫אליהו‬ (Elijah the prophet). These four entities symbolize the complete biblical trajectory from genesis to messianic redemption as the Abrahamic peoples travel to the land of Israel.

Name of art piece: Duality (Bet) Medium: Digital collage on aluminum metal Size of art piece: 16” x 20” Piece for sale The Bet represents man’s place in the spiritual and physical architecture of this world by showcasing three dwelling places of G-d: the house of study, prayer, and temple. This artwork was made from the superposition of many layers and digital brush strokes based on insights from Kabbalistic, Midrashic, and Talmudic sources. Revealing, reinterpreting, and unmasking, biblical content through a modern-day lens is a crucial part of grappling with the everchanging contemporary Jewish landscape.

Each Hebrew letter has a unique story to tell. Remarkably, the representative meanings embodied by this script have been retained throughout their evolution from ancient pictographic to modern Masoretic scripts. " Multiplicity" is part of a digital painting collage series made from the superposition of many layers and brush strokes based on creational insights from Kabbalistic, Midrashic, and Talmudic sources. Gimmel signifies the merging of G-d and the material world, a blending of disparate elements into a harmonious whole. Gimmel represents the benefactor or the giver of charity, as in the statement from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers):‫ על שלושה דברים העולם עומד‬On three things the world stands, ‫( תורה‬Torah), ‫( עבודה‬acts of service to G-d e.g prayer), and ‫( גמילות חסדים‬acts of loving kindness). Here a scholar donned in prayer garments hugs the Torah in recognition that G-d resides even in the physical. This piece encourages the viewer to transfix themselves for a moment in time and space, appreciating how to give and receive small moments and blessings. The dynamic interplay between natural spiritual forces and humanity’s creative interference with those forces shape our everyday world.

The letters presented themselves before G-d in dramatic succession to vie for the coveted spot of beginning all of creation. They produced a set of unique artworks for their living room to finally surround themselves and their family with Torah Giants in a way that integrated into their modern living environment while reflecting the greatness of the sages. It was a long process to perfect the artworks to the highest of quality standards and to top minimalistic modern design. Once the artworks were up on their wall, they discovered that others seek the same goal and that they could spread greatness through their artworks. “We would like to enable Jewish homes to incorporate their beloved and respected Jewish leaders who stand for their core values into their surroundings as in all other areas of their lives” The artworks are laser cut from stainless steel on a background of acrylic. All portraits are individually hand-finished, framed and ready to hang.
