Hello,

It is with deep gratitude and genuine excitement that I share Teach For America San Antonio’s 2024–2025 Yearbook—a celebration of the impact you have helped make possible. Much like a school yearbook, these pages reflect the people, stories, and milestones that shaped this year. As you read them, I hope you feel immense pride knowing your generosity has been a driving force behind every success we’ve achieved.

Because of you, more than 80 corps members and over 500 alumni are teaching, leading, and advocating for students across our community. Together, we are advancing our bold 2030 goal: to double the number of students in our community impact zones who graduate high school prepared for college, career, or military service. This year, we’ve continued to recruit exceptional talent, champion alumni leading in education and mission-aligned roles, and expand the Ignite Fellowship all in pursuit of closing the learning gaps that grew in recent years.

As we celebrate Teach For America San Antonio’s 15 years of impact, I am humbled by the progress we’ve made together and energized by the work still ahead. Your partnership has shaped what’s been possible for thousands of students over the past decade and a half, and it will continue to light the path forward for the next generation of leaders and learners.

Thank you for believing in this mission and in the limitless potential of every child. I am inspired by all we have accomplished together and even more hopeful about the future we are building side by side.

Together in the movement,

ABOUT US

Our Vision

One day, all children will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.

Our Mission

Teach For America finds, develops and supports extraordinary leaders to transform education and expand opportunity for all children.

Our Approach

1

TFA San Antonio floods the zone with exceptional, actionoriented leaders, tutors, corps members, & alumni.

2 TFA San Antonio provides the ecosystem of support necessary to produce positive student outcomes.

3 TFA contributes to community-level systems change across San Antonio.

2030GOAL OUR

By 2030, twice as many children in the communities where we work will be college ready indicating they are on a path to economic mobility and a future filled with possibility.

2020-2025

50% 2025

of schools where our presence is deepest, have earned an A or B rating.

25% 2019 of schools where our presence is deepest, have earned an A or B rating.

IDEA Public Schools is leading the way locally, with 89% of seniors meeting college-readiness indicators in both Reading and Math.

2025-2030

As we work toward doubling the number of students who are college-ready by 2030, we know that readiness is a lagging indicator— and we’re energized to turn more of our collective attention toward moving that needle in the second half of the decade.

ACCELERATE IMPACT TFA LEADERS

TFA teachers who teach beyond two years improve twice as fast as non-TFA teachers in their first five years.

60% of TFA teachers stay in the classroom for three or more years, compared to just 45% of non-certified teachers in similar school environments.

TFA-led classrooms match or outperform non-TFA classrooms on the STAAR exam.

TFA corps members and alumni are making a consistent and significant impact on student learning across the country, no matter the region, subject area, or grade level.

Schools led by TFA alumni principals serve more economically disadvantaged students (83% vs. 64% statewide) yet outperform peer campuses (66% A/B ratings vs. 54% statewide).

TFA teachers help students gain ~23 extra days of learning each school year.

EXPERIENCE THE CORPS

At Teach For America San Antonio, many of our corps members go on to become changemakers across a wide range of fields both locally and nationally and it all starts with their time in the classroom.

Their experiences, inside and beyond those four walls, shape their journey. That’s why we prioritize comprehensive supports and services that help them thrive. Throughout the year, corps members participate in engaging social events, access professional development tailored to their interests, and connect with education leaders from across San Antonio.

“Every day, I’m still learning. Still refining. Still becoming the educator my students deserve. And every day, they remind me why this work matters.”

From the moment I stepped into the classroom, I carried with me a lifelong love for teaching and a deep awareness of how few Black men students encounter at the front of their classrooms. I’ve always believed that showing up as your full, authentic self, especially in spaces where representation is scarce, is a powerful act. When Teach For America crossed my path, it felt like the right avenue to put that belief into action and to serve a community that deserved to see themselves reflected in positions of leadership and learning.

Still, nothing could have fully prepared me for what teaching would feel like from the inside. I imagined it’d be challenging, but I didn’t understand the sheer complexity of the craft until I was living it day to day. That first year felt like trying to fly a half-built plane across an ocean, wanting to chart a path toward growth while simply trying to stay airborne. With time, I gained a real appreciation for the skill, patience, and intention it takes to help young people thrive.

If I could change one thing for my students, it would be ensuring that every single one of them has a network of families, school teams, mentors, and community members, walking alongside them. Learning shouldn’t be a solo journey. Kids soar when everyone around them lifts them up.

I’m also working on a few projects on campus—initiatives that bring creativity into the classroom and help students take ownership of their learning. Whether it’s hands-on activities, collaborative challenges, or simply creating space for them to dream boldly, I’m always exploring ways to make our classroom a place where imagination is welcomed and purpose is nurtured.

Every day, I’m still learning. Still refining. Still becoming the educator my students deserve. And every day, they remind me why this work matters.
