Answered Prayers, Con’t from Page 24 Sandee, Debby, my family, Misty, Ashley, and all the people that write articles and customers that believed in and supported it, Texas Twister would not be what it is today. My sincere gratitude to them all. And, I thank God that day for answering my prayer. The drama I went through prior to starting Texas Twister has given me great insight to what I wanted it to be. Reason for everything? You bet! When times are the hardest, just dig in, and include God in your plans!
HOSPICE CARE
So many people do not understand what hospice is. And, it is such an important service that is available to us. Here is some information. Definitions of hospice on the Web: • a lodging for travelers (especially one kept by a monastic order) • a program of medical and emotional care for the terminally ill (google.com) • • • Who is eligible for hospice? Hospice is available to any person regardless of age, disease, or economic status. When do you get involved with hospice? It is appropriate to become involved with hospice when an illness is at it’s final terminal stages. If no more treatments for a cure or heroic measures are to be taken to prolong life are going to be used, a hospice should be brought in for the final 6 months or less of life is expected. What services does hospice offer? Hospice is a team of professionals including doctors, nurses, clergy and social workers. Is hospice only for the patient? Hospice provides strong physical, emotional, spiritual support for the patient and for the family. They help everyone prepare for the final moments of the patients life. They sometimes provide counseling for the family for around a year after death. How is it paid for? For terminal patients with less thank six months to live might be covered by Medicare or Medicaid. And, some HMO’s and health insurance policies cover these services. Many hospice can provide service from donations or other sources, so if you have a family member facing a terminal illness, please find out what is available to you and if you need help, just ask for it. You don’t have to face this alone, so please don’t.
