“Hometown Christian Magazine” Is happy to celebrate in EACH month’s Issue featuring great BLOG stories! We have the honor to feature such amazing people that have such heart warming stories to share! Please welcome our Person(s) of the Month… Blessings!

Hello Folks: I met Richard Lee Reeder May 25, 1968 in Yosemite National Park, but it wasn’t the first time. We were employees of Curry Company and had the best jobs and living accommodations that young people could ever have! He was 22 that day and his buddies brought him down to the Valley from Badger Pass to celebrate his birthday. He was a ski instructor at Badger during the winter

and

worked

at

Curry

Campgrounds during the summer. I was new to the Valley. I had moved up there in March and worked in the Reservations Department.

I loved my

job. It was so much fun and so interesting. I got to meet many kinds of

people, that came to the Park, from all over the world.

FAMILY: Rick was the oldest of 4 boys. He is the one on the far left side of this picture.

He was born in

Nowata County, OK. He lived with his grandparents the first few years of of his young life and then his mom moved all of them to CA. It was a better life for them and they grew up to become amazing men. Viola Reeder (his mom-pictured) was a strong Christian woman. She ended up taking care of the boys on her own for several years. Then the 3 younger ones went to Mariposa to live with their dad and stepmom on a ranch. Rick stayed with his mom in Southern California. There he worked odd jobs, surfed the Pacific Ocean, was in several beach movies, and hung out with a lot of musicians, like the Beach Boys. He had a great growing up life. 08/01/19

ROAD TRIP: Right before Rick graduated from High School, during the summer, he and a buddy of his took a road trip through California. They wanted to see the countryside on their motorcycles. Little did he or I know that we would meet for the first time in Mickey Grove Park, Lodi, CA… 1964. They stopped at the park to rest and decide which direction they would go… to the coast or toward the mountains. As they were walking they came to a Japanese walkover bridge, and on that bridge was my little sister, my mom, my then-boyfriend and myself. We had gone that Sunday to the park for a picnic and relaxation. The two guys walked past us and Rick and I exchanged looks, but nothing else. I wasn’t interested in anyone, but the guy holding my hand. So he didn’t make an impression on me. Rick, on the other hand, stopped on the other side and watched us for a short moment then told his buddy… “see that girl… I’m going to marry her someday!” His friend laughed at him and said he, was crazy… YOU will never see her again! YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK: They left the park and true enough we NEVER saw each other again until May 25, 1968 after hours in the restaurant/bar with 20 or so other Curry Company Employees. That night was the night that changed my entire – MY entire! Life! I write about that meeting in my book, Yosemite Intrigue on Amazon.com

HOBBIES & INTERESTS: Rich was and is an adventurous person. He likes hiking, water and snow skiing, traveling, reading, education, mechanics (NO not really… he wasn’t any good at repairing his 1954 convertible ford.) and exploring new things! PERSONALITY: He is the type of person that you JUST want to be friends with and learn from. He isn’t arrogant or boastful or mean-spirited. He is calm in a storm and patient beyond understanding.

He is honest with his opinions, yet empathetic to the person’s

situation. He makes a really great councilor or teacher! He is a strong man in his convictions and his relationship with Jesus and God the Father. It took him a lot of years to come back to the Lord, but when he did… he owns it! Rick walks the walk and talks the talk. I don’t say these things because I love the guy… well, I do, but these things are true because I have heard many people over the years say so. MY BEST FRIEND: Rick has been my ‘best friend’ for over 50+ years. We have gone through many valleys and been on top of many mountains during that time. He has been steadfast in his relationships and supportive to his family! I call him my ‘best’ friend because I can depend on him for wise council, laughter in the midst of concern, a broad shoulder to cry on, and a hug when needed.

EARLY YEARS IN YOSEMITE: The easiest way to describe our years in Yosemite is to say, we were young, dumb, work-alcoholics, loyal to the company, loyal to each other and the community, scared sometimes, adventurous, and was learning as we went! That first year was when the Fire Falls had its LAST fall over the side of the Glacier Point, the Tunnel Tree had its LAST fall to the ground, and our men went off to WAR in Viet Nam… and many of them fell, never to return! MARINES: We didn’t understand the war and all the killing, but we understood it was our duty to serve in the military and protect USA. Rick did just that, he joined the Marines before being called by Uncle Sam. He went a way from me and his family… and I didn’t see him again… for nearly 25 years. Oh, I heard from him and about him, but we never got back together until 1989. Unknown to either of us, we both lived in Florida.

Through a mutual

friend, we were reunited and that was the new beginning of our friendship to this very day… 2019!

WHERE IS RICK? Well, where is Rick these days… he is living in Florida. He is 72 years old, ill health, still a super positive person, still just as loving and kind-hearted as when I first met him. He has been married a couple of times, divorced a couple of times, had 2 children, both deceased… and buried his mom in 2017. He has 2 of his 3 brothers living in Mariposa, CA with their families and he still has ME. I live in different parts of the United States throughout the year. I’m a nomad person that likes to move about … And now those days are coming to an end for me… I’m 70 years old and getting too tired to do the traveling. We’ve talked about getting together – permanently, LOL, but there never seems to be the right timing for that to happen. So we remain good – best friends… loving each other from across the land! We don’t worry too much about the relationship… because we know what God wanted for us from the beginning… FRIENDSHIP & TRUE LOVE… that’s enough for both of us.

Bible Scripture… 1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." 08/01/19

In remembrance of Elvis A. Presley August 16, 1977 Graceland, TN We love you very much! Elvis Aaron Presley, also known as Elvis, was an American singer, musician, and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King". (Wiki.com, 2018). In his own way he didn’t really leave us, instead he left us a legacy of music and love, so he isn’t really gone from our hearts… he still lives on in our memories, prayers, and thoughts. Thank you, E… for what you gave to the world and what you still give… even more! Blessings Quote for Elvis: “The image is one thing and the human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image, put it that way.”

CABIN IN THE VALLEY Chapter 1 ~ Cody Medford / Dreamer Not So Long Ago! I will tell you a very true love story! "Once upon a time," Oh, no! I don't want you to think it was all about fairy tales! It Isn't, it is, however, a very true to life story about a middle aged man, named… Cody. He was rather shy, he loved the out doors, and working with his hands. He had a soft, but powerful voice, and crinkle lines around his bright blue eyes. He had perfectly shaped black brows and long dark eyelashes, that any girl would die for… he had coal black wavy hair that was a little longer, than his G.I. haircut that he was required to maintain in the service. And, he was tan and muscular from all the outside activities he did. When standing straight he was six feet and four inches,. He had been spending his time, for years, serving his country. Well, now he could buy that home he dreamed about lying in his bunk bed or foxhole where that might be. He had a few minutes he depended on that dream to help pass the time, some times he might share with a buddy, but most of the time he just remember, and enjoy the pleasure of how and where he would be living, didn't want any city life! Noise! That was for sure! He heard a dog barking off in the distant and birds chirping. In the evening he would often hear a wolf howling, and frogs calling in a small pond! Cody smiled and thought the frog was calling out to his mate and he would pretend that he would some day call out to his sweet Carolyn the same way. He was holding another of her letters that kept steadily coming, making him a happy man. 08/01/19

A hot cup of black coffee, legs propped up, so relaxed, re-read her letters and promises on that sweet smelling stationary, (our plans) for our life, our future together, when College was over that spring, she would have her teaching license to teach Kindergarten and first grade, they both love the ideal and was crazy about children. Cody only has one more year then can retire from the military, with 10 years under his belt, he was a little older then Carolyn but a great match. She had beautiful long red hair, green eyes and cute nose. She was 5 feet seven, all girl, they met at the county fair two years ago, and now madly in love. She has a white poodle named ""Jenkins,"" that dog is the boss! Cody loves playing the Guitar, sings a bit, gospel, country, rock, can Texas two-step all around the floor, a regular high stepper! He wears Western boots, all shiny, with well-fitted jeans. Yes, this next year will pass slowly, but must be content, he had decided to be a recruiter for one year to sign -up new troops, and be stationed near Carolyn, while she finish her degree it will all work out fine, must be patient, its hard to settle down. Cody had been every where even France and Germany, he would be fine, just fine, now that’s a different story with Carolyn, she had been born, raised in that Hot Desert in Arizona. And moving to the south would be a surprise to her and some getting adjusting too!

Chapter 2 - Carolyn’s Family Life Her parents were native born in from around Phoenix and were all settled down to retirement from being a border inspector. He had worked as State line inspector where people entered from Arizona to California. This station was located outside of Blythe and every vehicle was stopped and searched for fruit, plants other items that wasn’t suppose to come into the State. It was a very good and important job.

The lived in the desert near

Quartsite, a small town twenty miles east of Blythe, Carolyn had two sisters and two brothers and she had a happy childhood, living in a small thriving town, with the new Interstate 10 going right pass them, from Los Angeles to Phoenix. Carolyn and Cody were busy with all the realtors calling, sending maps and photos, for them to scan, search for just the right land and area to build the Cabin and small corral for a special breed of horses and pastures where he had his heart set on raising. They plan to get off the desert and go east for some mountain living, and big trees, streams of water, a few wild animals, and with lots of green grass. They would have to get used to the climate in Tennessee. Cody was thinking that the cabin had to be much larger then when they first decided. Originally was just a small cozy place for the two of them at least until they could marry and get all settled in, and then add on as needed. These sketches of the floor plan were just too small to start with, so he would call his Sweetie tomorrow to discuss this and hear her lovely voice. He might even sing her a Marty Robbins song he had been humming all evening.

Chapter 3 - continued She said later that he was cute! Then they saw each other again and decided to have a soda, and talk, and go on some more rides. After that night their talking became every night for a week. Cody had to return to his job, sometimes a G.I. doesn't have time off, and it could cause problems. But he was lucky, he was in stationed Phoenix and could see his Sweet Carolyn nearly every weekend. He never knew when or where they would run into each other, like when he saw her walking down the street downtown and got a quick moment to talk to her. They dated for a few weeks, and then he met her parents and really enjoyed eating those large meals that her mother prepared. He didn’t get food like this when he visited his parents. They were busy Missionaries and actually had just returned from overseas to their small town in Utica, Ohio. It is about thirty miles north of Columbus, and really is small farm town. Cody's grandparents were farmers and had settled in Ohio many years before to raise their family. His parents had taken he and his younger brother, Dale, on several of their mission trips to South America. For many years, Cody knew what he wanted to do and he did that, he joined the U.S. Army. Dale joined the Navy because he liked ships and sailing. At the time of their enlisting, the nation wasn’t in a war and that allowed them to finish the training and schooling in their chosen fields.

Chapter 3 - continued For many years, the boys had talked about, raising horses on a small farm, somewhere in the southern part of the country! Both felt they had plenty of time, because neither one of them was married. However, Dale just heard from his brother and he was getting nervous about it, that he was going to be Cody’s best man and was going to have a new sister in-laws. He wanted to know how would this marriage affect buying the farm and building a cabin. Cody taught a young youth group at his church. His job was to try and make an impression on these young boys and girls about the Savior, who He is and how He can help them through their lives. He told them about His truth, strength, how to build the faith, why its important to make the right decisions. He knew he would surely miss them after he retired and leave the state. He also knew he would have a lot of good memories to take with him. He hoped that at his next home he would be able to keep teaching a youth group about the Lord.

*** STAY TUNE FOR MORE‌ Will Cody really leave his comfortable and familiar life? Will he and his true love decide to get married or call it quits?

Who would you trust? *** by: Maggie B, Writer

Hello Everyone:

July 21, 2019

Maggie B. here… I have often wondered if I was the ONLY one in the universe that suffered with trust issues! Really when you think about all the ‘strange’ things that go on in our world, doesn’t stand to reason that ‘trusting’ someone is top on the list? I subscribe to this research company that looks into the personalities of people. According to the research we all are a combination of 2 to 4 different personality classifications. You have one that is stronger than the 2 nd and/or 3rd or maybe a 4th personality trait palette. My strongest personality trait is called Protagonist. I believe that my traits (for the most part) does truly fall under this title. Which brings me to the issue of TRUSTING others. Their research states the following: “Protagonists have a universal optimism, peppered with trust concerns involving those with whom they interact personally. They have instincts toward trustworthiness but also fear being abandoned or being taken advantage of, which presents a mixed bag and a legitimate challenge for many Protagonists – an idealistic view of society contrasted against a harsher reality when they have skin in the game. Perhaps the less personal trust is the result of having been burnt from trusting too easily at an earlier time in life. Their research shows that Protagonists are one of the types most likely to: •Worry that others see them as an easy mark. •Say they fear being abandoned by their friends. •Feel they have an instinct for who is trustworthy. •Trust others unless they are given an obvious reason not to.”

08/01/19

8-9_Aug-Sep 2019 – 8th Issue

27

“Trusting 2” By: Maggie B. Writer

They continue on by stating: “Trusting others versus having healthy (or even unhealthy) skepticism: You can trust too much or trust too little. You can be trusting of people in one place but be wary of them in another. Consider someone in your grandma’s kitchen or in a dark alley downtown – much depends on your grandma, and much depends on your town. Your trust level can define your social, professional, and romantic lives in multiple ways.”

Building Confidence to Build Trust “Protagonists are typically seen as the voice of compassion and believers in human potential. It’s a needed voice that brings balance to a cynical, self-serving world. That approach, to be viable, requires some degree of trust in man. Is mankind worth saving if it represents nothing but deceit? If Protagonists can mitigate their personal concerns so that they are “walking the walk,” they can be strong proponents of trusting others.”

“Trusting 3” By: Maggie B. Writer

I, for one, can certainly achieve balance in my life when I don’t protect myself so much with distrust and deal with the situation in a practical manner. In other words, I believe in giving a person the benefit of the doubt more than ONE time… I believe in verbally encouraging and supporting that person’s challenges and helping them in whatever way I can… sometimes this pays off in a wonderful way, and other times it blows up in my face. I get hurt and feel rejected… HOWEVER, over the years I have learned how to react to these situations, first I… 1: cry …because of my hurt feelings, 2: get a little mad, for a few moments (pity party time), 3: ask the Lord for forgiveness, wisdom and show me His Word, 4: and, then I let it go, walk away, don’t look back (except for when I need to re- learn something and/or teach the positive solutions to others).

The Texas Star Reporter Explore Texas

Southwest USA Brought to You By: Texasoutside.com

TSCM discovered Texas Outside a couple of years ago and really got excited about the products and services this company offered to its clients. It has news, articles, travel, events, and ideas galore! It may be a Texas based business… but it serves the entire USA… Good ole… Texas-Style! Many of the articles in Hometown Christian Magazine comes from our good friends at Texas Outside.

Courthouses - Texas Style! Howdy Folks: It has been a couple of months since I put fingers to keys on the computer and sent you another issue of TSCM. I’ve been a little busy this summer and decided to take a break. I’m back now and ready to hit the Texas Roads and find some more interesting and exciting towns, venues, businesses, people, and holidays to share with you’ll.

COURTHOUSES My sister reminded me that our Dad was a courthouse ‘nut’… we remember that on most of our summer vacations he would stop by many small, out of the way, towns that he could find. He would take pictures with a 110 camera (don’t make those any more) of courthouses in the square. Afterwards, we would eat in the nearest downtown restaurants and window shop the other stores. (No Walmart !) And, head down the 2 lane road to the next little town and another courthouse. He sure had a ‘thing’ for courthouses! He spoke about their architectural designs and their history and how each was built do differently. Their style would set the tone for the town it represented. He would point out features of how the stones were laid, the embellishments on the corners and the color of the bricks or rocks, take from near by fields. Of course being kids, we just went along with his obsession and didn’t think any more about it. However, many, many years later, my sister and I have found ourselves doing what Dad did… seeking out Texas courthouses and talking about the way they look and the ‘feel’ to the town square. 08/01/19

I have been all over the USA and not too many towns, especially, on the west coast boast courthouses with old style and rustic romance. For me it is so much fun when I come across a town that still maintains its courthouse and town square charm. I am including several pictures of some of MY favorite Texas Courthouses and the counties they represent. Staring with the “T’ to the “W”… Enjoy the journey down courthouse lane… Texas Style!

Hope of Heaven By: Tarina Lovegrove, Feature Writer

Far above the clouds,

Yet our sins are washed away,

beyond where the eye can see.

In a moment they’re all gone.

I have a special home

Our hearts are renewed,

that is waiting there for me.

like the breaking of the dawn.

Majestic are the streets of gold

So let go of your sorrows

pure are the rivers that runs so true.

wash away your tears.

Paradise awaits

Accept Jesus as your Savior,

for souls like me and you.

release all your fears.

We truly are not worthy

Embrace the joy of freedom

of the land oh so grand.

in the land only promised to a few.

Yet our sins are forgiven

Have hope in our Heaven

when Jesus takes our hand.

and start your life anew!

We don’t deserve the gifts prepared and awaiting. We don’t deserve its beauty the Lord has been creating. 08/01/19

My Health Program… Okay… it has been 2 months since I started my healthy eating program… I should be SOOOOO happy with the results, but I AM NOT! I got on a scale last week and I still WEIGHED the same as I did 2 months ago! What is with THAT? I have been SO faithful to the program, not over eaten anything, stayed away from the sugars, sweets, breads, fried foods, hamburgers and fries, and pastas… and I am still the same as I was when I started!!!

TIRED FROM NOTHING I feel the same too. I am sluggish, tired, feel like a lazy-bones girl, and just no energy! I have to make myself get off the bed and take a walk 5 or 6 times a day. I don’t want to go anywhere or do anything. And, when I do, I am out of breath, almost throwing up, and so over-heated that I nearly pass out! No kidding! I am seriously concerned that there is more to my health issues that I originally thought. OH, yes, go to the Doctor! LOL! He doesn’t know the answers either! I went, we talked, he said, “Keep doing whatever it is your doing.” LOL Okay, I have been. I haven’t lost by 10 lbs in 2 months. That isn’t nearly enough.

FAD DIETS - AWWW I don’t like fad diets… they are too harsh on my system and I get sicker with some of them. They are expensive and just don’t work for me. I am going to RELOCATE myself to another State… and see if the change in the climate and environment will have a more positive effect on me. I can always come back to this area if it doesn’t work out. Right? I will continue my program… but I am going to adjust it in some areas that may help with dropping the weight. 08/01/19

One Purpose Journey ***

One Purpose Journey ***

TSCM & HCM Every Monthly Issue 2016-2019 By: Tarina Lovegrove & Maggie B., Feature Writers

Many of us are in search of our life’s purpose. Yet, did you know that all humans share a one-purpose journey? That is to experience life on earth, find Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, invite him into our hearts and share the gospel while awaiting his return. The event, often referred to as The Rapture, will be the miraculous time when trumpets will sound for Jesus’ tried and true believers and he will remove them from the earth to take them to Heaven. When this happens, can you imagine the evilness and chaos left behind? At the time of The Rapture, it is anticipated that the world will be in mass turmoil, airplanes will fall from the sky, cars will crash in the streets, Christians and children will be so-called “unexplainable gone”. The mayhem that follows is disastrous beyond human comprehension. Occurrences including a one-world currency, a confederation of 10 nations united to bring so-called “peace” under the helm of an AntiChrist (which is Satan’s puppet for his own personal demands) will all take place.

One Purpose Journey ~2 It is a fact that no one knows the date or time of Jesus’ return, yet it is near. The Bible speaks of many happenings that will take place in what is called the end times. These ends times include, but are not limited to, world violence and lawlessness, exponential increase in technology as well as false prophets and teachers. In these last days, churches and ministers will turn away from prophecy and align with a one world religious group, many illnesses, plagues and pestilence will manifest throughout the world and nonbelievers will scoff at the return of Christ. Be aware… these prophetic events have already begun! We are seeing the story unfold right before our very eyes! Please, do not make haste. Do not wait any longer to invite Jesus into your heart. As Jonathan Cahn so eloquently states, “You’re only one heartbeat away from eternity.” *** For more information please visit: www.texasstarchristianmagazine.com/ebooks

One Purpose Journey ~3 The Emergency Prayer Team prays for all types of situations and our main focus is leading people to Christ. The Bible speaks of the end times and it is our belief that we are living in them NOW. In order for you and your family to go to Heaven, you must ask Jesus into your HEART and accept His Salvation for you soul through Forgiveness of sins. Then it is important to live a life according to His Word. If you do not or will not accept this forgiveness and Salvation, you are facing dreadful circumstances and will be LEFT BEHIND. Please accept Jesus today‌ Our prayers are with you! See you in Heaven!

Pathway ***

Pathway “Money-Money” DEWAYNE'S DELIGHTFUL DEVOTIONAL Proverbs 10:22 “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow to it.” Many of us have heard sermons over the years that warn us of the snares associated with pursuing wealth. The warnings are fitting since wealth can draw many away from their focus on God and the things of God. Proverbs 10:22 is a refreshing take on wealth especially for those of us who are Christian entrepreneurs. We are told that wealth from God is a gift and the way you know it is a gift is by the mere fact that you get to enjoy it! In other words, no sorrow is added to it, no pain staking labor, no being consumed by maintaining wealth, no extreme stress, no discontent, no taking away critical family time. When God blesses your business with wealth He gives you contentment and comfort along with it. Wow! What an awesome God we serve and how special the blessing of wealth is when it is a gift from Him. That should give you something to smile about.

Make these coming months GREAT ones, my

friend! Blessings… *** DeWayne Owens is a nationally sought-after Motivational Speaker, Author, Trainer and the Official Chaplain of the Zig Ziglar Legacy Certification Program. For more information on DeWayne Owens visit www.dewayneowens.org

Life Point ***

** LIFE POINT ** 1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." ***

Sometimes it is hard to love and respect someone that is treating you badly. It hurts your feelings when they purposely ignore you, speak harshly to you, make fun of you, or punish you unfairly. You are NOT a victim and please do not be one. What are you suppose to do when this happens? The answer is NOT easy, but it is do-able. It is recommended to consider the following: 1: First Pray for patience and understanding, and be strong in faith 2: Ask the person if they are willing to seek help with you 3: Do not accept such mistreatments 4: If in any type of danger, go to someone that will protect you and give you support. Immediately! Stay safe! 5: Sometimes that person is just ‘scared’ and is lashing out at the nearest person… They need to be held accountable for their actions. 08/01/19
