Office of the Executive Director The executive director is responsible for the leadership and overall administration of the Texas Dental Association, and is the staff liaison to the executive and legislative bodies of the association, namely the Board of Directors, the House of Delegates and the ADA 15th Trustee district delegation. This department oversees the Texas Dental Journal, a scientific publication circulated monthly to dentists and dental institution subscribers, and the TDA Today, a newsletter for TDA members that presents issues-oriented and timely news. Additionally, the Office of Executive Director is responsible for the support of the strategic direction and defining the culture of organizational excellence in which the TDA operates on a daily basis.

The department is responsible for the organization, coordination, and council support of all planning functions and on-site logistics for the TEXAS Meeting. This includes negotiation of contracts for speakers and general contractors and preparation of materials for marketing and promoting the TEXAS Meeting, TDA’s second highest source of non-dues revenue. Other activities include management of exhibit sales, solicitation and acquisition of sponsorships to support TDA meeting activities, training of host societies and volunteers, contracting for meeting facilities, hotel room blocks, off-site tours, and social event facilities. In addition, the department is responsible for all hotel and meeting needs of the Association, including coordination of Texas delegation activities at the ADA annual meeting.

Department of Finance This department manages the finances of the Association, including TDA Holdings, Inc., TDA Financial Services, Inc., TDA Member Benefits, Ltd., Paid Dental Benefits, Inc., TDA Relief Fund, Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation, and Texas Missions of Mercy, Inc. The finance staff works with the boards of directors of each entity and key staff members to provide accurate, relevant financial reports. The department works directly with the secretary-treasurer in financial reporting, budget development, and cash and investment management. The financial records are maintained in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. In addition to the annual independent audit, the department provides reports to taxing authorities and funders. The finance staff supports the Finance and Audit Committee, Budget Committee, and Assets Management Committee.

This department seeks to preserve the integrity of Texas dentistry in the public policymaking arena. In addition to serving as staff lobbyists, policy experts, and liaisons for the Council on Legislative and Regulatory Affairs, the council on Dental Education, Trade and Ancillaries, and the Committee on Access, Medicaid and CHIP, the department is responsible for monitoring legislation and regulations affecting dentistry. The department staff monitors rules of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Health and Human Services Commission, and other governmental agencies. The department manages DENPAC, the Texas Dental Association Political Action Committee. DENPAC was organized for the purpose of supporting candidates for state office who demonstrate advocacy for the dental profession and for the dental health of the people of Texas. DENPAC is funded by voluntary contributions from TDA members and their families.
