Dear Terumo EMEA Associates,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to this summer edition of TEAM. You know, in the past I did have the opportunity to read TEAM while working at TC. Reading up about the EMEA associates and initiatives always inspired me and did remember me about my 11 years of experience in and about Europe. And again, also this issue inspires me. Just take a look at the front cover. A true Terumo image expressing belonging, inspiration, optimism, and a summery feeling.

That optimism in the Terumo Europe future is clearly defined in our EMEA growth strategy 26. In Fiscal Year 2023 we aim to outperform and to innovate in five key areas that you will find back on the following pages. To achieve this, we need to prepare well. If we do this, we can be optimistic about reaching our goals together. In that sense, allow me to refer to one of my favorite quotes that you can read on the cup.

You can find inspiration in this issue. Be it on a personal level by discovering how your colleagues are empowered, or on an organizational level through the C.A.R.E. framework that will upskill all people managers to treat you, as an associate, with respect, lead with authenticity and create safety & opportunity for all.

To me, TEAM is about our associates. It is amazing to see the images and read the stories about you all. Positives stories about engaged and committed people that are passionate at work as well as in their private lives. It is an honor to lead such a great organization.

TEAM is testimonial to my ambition to have and show a strong presence of Terumo EMEA by creating a great place to work for our associates and investing in human capital.

Enjoy your summer holidays with your families and friends!

WE OUTPERFRM AND INNOVATE IN FISCAL YEAR 2023

WE GAIN EFFICIENCY

WE GROW THE BUSINESS

WE PILOT SUSTAINABILITY

Each department has a plan in place to enhance efficiency, guided by experts.

This driver also means strengthening collaboration through crossfunctional teams within our region and with Terumo Corporation to provide innovative responses for issues we face today.

WE ACCELERATE REGULATORY IMPACT

An exciting and ambitious driver whereby we identify opportunities for geographical expansion. Besides growth, we enhance commercial effectiveness, provide tailored customer solutions and leverage digitalization.

WE UPSKILL OUR LEADERS

This entails defining quick wins and long-term investment actions.

One example is our 1-million-euro investment in nearly 3000 solar panels scheduled to be operational at the Haasrode site by March 2024. The amount of renewable energy it will generate is comparable with the consumption of 385 households. Henk Houf, COO/VP Manufacturing & Operations, and sponsor of the project shares more detail in this edition of TEAM.

Designing and implementing customer and/or patient centric governing solutions is a key part of this driver.

We rolled out a unique C.A.R.E leadership program to the 230 leaders within our region, which will add coal to the fire and help us all move forward. In a nutshell: we want our leaders to treat you as an associate with respect, lead with authenticity and create safety through shaping clarity, also when times are challenging. People solutions Manager Heidi explains more about C.A.R.E. in this edition of TEAM.

TALKING OUT OF THE BOX

MEET YAKINE

I feel empowered when my contributions are simply recognized and valued, when I’m given new challenging projects to lead and when I feel that my personal objectives are aligned with the company’s values and goals.

MEET SVEN

WHEN DO YOU FEEL EMPOWERED?

When I try something which is out of my comfort zone, I am afraid to fail for or something the world might think different about. When I then still get support and recognition for these things, often unexpected, that makes me feel empowered.

MEET KERSTIN

I feel empowered when I have meticulously planned and gone through a process to win over a customer, and it plays out as a success and the customer is happy and grateful for the result.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AT WORK?

A design engineer that was a design project manager in a previous organization. He was a great listener and a great communicator. The most sophisticated situations were led with ease, and he was always ready to learn more and specially to share knowledge with the team, which creates a positive work environment.

That is a colleague who is close to my heart. That person is not afraid of fighting for a better wage, someone who cultivates respect, who perseveres and works hard to get recognition. And as it’s not all about work, that colleague also works on his personal development, for example by enhancing hobby skills.

A colleague who has high integrity and morale and understands that her role as a salesperson is all about understanding the customer’s needs.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER GOTTEN?

Not to be afraid of making mistakes. For me, each failure was a new opportunity to adjust, to learn and to improve my performance.

Since work fills most of your life, it is important to do what you love and to be satisfied with the work you do.

If you are unsure about something, dare to ask.

To love my work and to work with what I love.

BOOSTING ADDED VALUE | UPSKILLING OUR LEADERS

TERUMO EUROPE UPSKILLS ITS LEADERS THROUGH INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCES, UNIQUE WITHIN THE GROUP.

We want our leaders to treat you, as an associate, with respect, lead with authenticity and create safety & opportunity. At the same time, they need to point out the direction we’re heading and seek alignment and commitment from their team, also when times are challenging. This is the type of leader that we defined in support of ‘boosting added value’ within Terumo Europe.

People Solutions Manager Heidi Van Den Broeck explains what our brand-new leadership framework called LEAD with C.A.R.E entails, and how it will add coal to the fire and help us all move forward.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM A LEADER AT TERUMO EUROPE?

“That profile we sketched is based on 8 key competencies and is summarized in the acronym C.A.R.E. It stands for ‘we Care’, ‘we Answer’, ‘we Rise’ and ‘we Engage’.”

HAVING THE STRATEGY IN PLACE IS ONE THING, BUT SUCH A LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IS ALSO BASED ON INDIVIDUAL NEEDS?

ANYTHING WE WILL DO TO BROADEN THEIR HORIZONS EVEN MORE?

“We will meet every leader at his or her own bus stop: we map out where they stand today, and where they want and need to be in future. This is done through development conversations and 360 feedback sessions.”

“Our ‘C.A.R.E. talks’ with external speakers, are aimed at inspiring people managers and aligning them on expectations. People can also sign in on C.A.R.E. bootcamps to improve certain competencies.”

TERUMO CONTRIBUTOR

HEIDI VAN DEN BROECK

HOW WILL C.A.R.E. FEED OUR GROWTH STRATEGY, SO BOOST ADDED VALUE?

“A strong people manager will develop a strong team, it’s as simple as that. He or she will manage and coach them so that people can shine and excel. That creates value for our business, as people are our human capital.”

Since 09/2007 People Solutions Manager, EMEA HR TEHQ Leuven

HOW DO YOU PERSONALLY REFLECT ON THIS LEADERSHIP OFFER?

“Very proud, we have never set up a program that is that tailored and co-created with our people managers. On top of that it is 100% endorsed by our senior leadership team. We are not aiming for perfection. We just want to get better every day, and I believe that makes all the difference.

Taking the time and space to reflect on the C.A.R.E expectations will already help a great deal in how we think and act moving forward. Leaders I spoke with are as eager as I am to start this journey and grow both professionally and personally.”

NEARLY 3000 SOLAR PANELS OPERATING AT HAASRODE SITE BY

EARLY NEXT YEAR.

Recently Terumo Corporation committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50.4% by 2030* from a 2018 base year. The goal is to be carbon neutral by 2040.

Looking at EMEA, the strategy is taking significant shape: since 2022, the site in Haasrode has been purchasing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% already. A clear example of outperformance. The focus this year is on generating renewable energy through solar panels.

WHAT THIS PROJECT ENTAILS:

By the end of March 2024, we plan to generate the first green energy produced by almost 3000 solar panels which we will install on the ATC- and production rooftops in Haasrode. The total capacity equals the energy consumption of 385 households and provides for 10% of our energy requirement. As we purchase 100% of our energy from (primarily Belgian) renewable sources today, in future that will come down to 90%.

EFFICIENCY IN CLINICAL AFFAIRS

Efficiency in clinical trials plays a crucial role in advancing medical research, improving patient outcomes, and accelerating the development of new therapies. Clinical trials are complex and resource-intensive endeavors, involving multiple stages, numerous participants, and extensive data collection and analysis.

The P3 equation “People - ProcessProject” in the context of clinical affairs refers to the interplay and importance of these three components in effectively planning, designing, and conducting clinical trials. The equation emphasizes the interdependence and integration of these three components. Effective clinical affairs require a well-structured framework that aligns the right people with the appropriate processes & tools and ensures efficient project conception and management. Each component influences and supports the others.

PEOPLE are the talents we need to design the right protocol based on the clinical question at stake and drive project deliverables & tasks while following defined procedures, using available digital solutions, and contributing with their expertise.

PROCESSES & TOOLS will provide structure, guidance, and adequate

systems to people, ensuring consistent and standardized execution of tasks. Operational excellence in clinical trials refers to the systematic approach and implementation of efficient and effective processes in the management of clinical trials activities (SOPs, KPIs, systems).

CLINICAL PROJECTS result from thorough strategic discussions with key internal and external stakeholders such as corporate management, global and local business colleagues, scientific experts, the medical community/societies, and the regulatory bodies. Each clinical project should have a clear purpose: evaluate the benefits and risks of a new therapy, (re)certification, indication expansion, etc. Clinical trials provide the necessary data that determine market adoption and support reimbursement.

Efficient project management implies adequate alignment of people and processes, facilitating the achievement of project goals and objectives.

When these three pillars are well-balanced and effectively integrated, clinical affairs can run smoothly, enabling the successful completion of clinical trials while maintaining high-quality data, participant safety, and regulatory compliance.

By embracing our Terumo Core Values, our continuous improvement efforts and a consistent risk management approach, clinical project managers and all key cross-functional stakeholders can foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, and accountability in clinical trial management. These values guide decision-making, shape behaviors, and contribute to the successful completion of clinical trials while ensuring participant safety, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.

TERUMO SPAIN FLASH MOB

After 3 years of not being able to gather, Terumo Spain decided to do something crazy for their kick-off of Fiscal Year 2022. Together with the entire team, they organized a flash mop. It took around 1,5 hours of training and recording to turn the flash mop into a success. This indeed was a great momentum where all associates could meet up again. Curious to see how the flash mop looks like? Check out the video.

I’ve worked in the MedTech industry for more than 20 years and thanks to my experience at Cook Medical, I got familiar with Terumo’s interventional products. I had different interactions with Terumo and its associates at congresses dating back to 2011 and said to myself that if I would ever leave my current job, I would seek employment with Terumo. In 2021, I left Cook Medical and, after a year doing something completely different, I was fully ready for a job at Terumo. First, I applied for a more technically demanding position, but this position was already taken. I then searched for another position on the Terumo careers website, applied, and became the Sales Force & Marketing Effectiveness Training Manager at TIS.

My job consists of training our Sales Force and Marketing teams on soft skills that add value to their careers as well as Terumo such as selling skills, negotiation techniques, objection handling, and other needed soft skills. My biggest priorities are to make sure the TIS academy becomes the go to platform for online skills trainings, determining and implementing a selling skills methodology together with our sales leaders and to see which items according to this methodology we can utilize in training our indirect sales force.

I’ve been a basketball coach for a long time for the U16 boys at a secondary school. This really was my passion, but I had to stop due to lack of time. In the weekends, you’ll find me on the golf course, which is also something I like. I love to cook with my family and to go on trips with them. Last year, we went to Cancun, Mexico, and this year we’ll go to Suriname, South America, back to my roots.

Another favorite destination was and is New York.

On Thursday 11 May you had the pleasure to check out the start of a new online series on Digital transformation (DX). We spoke to Sigurd Segers, ICT Applications Director, to get all the details.

HOW DID THIS WEBINAR ‘DIGITAL WITH PURPOSE’ SERIES GET SHAPED?

A keyword for Terumo as a company is ‘Innovation’. And this means digital. We understand the innovative speed of the digital world can be overwhelming, so that’s why a team of 10 people from ICT applications worked together with the Learning & Development (L&D) and Communication teams to bring a series on this topic in an understandable way, on a monthly basis.

WHY SHOULD SOMEONE FROM TERUMO, NOT WORKING IN IT CHECK OUT THESE WEBINARS?

It’s inevitable that business and IT will fade into each other in the near future. Sharing is caring and it’s important to start building on this digital future together asap.
