STRATEGIC PLAN 2022-2027
Modern building design embraces what’s known as “future proofing.” It’s the idea of thinking beyond a facility’s immediate use by incorporating features and infrastructure that pave the way for innovations down the line.
Fundamentally, it’s designing for growth—and it’s an apt metaphor for the PreK through Grade 6 education we provide at Tenacre. We prepare students for success in the next steps of their academic career and beyond by laying a strong and flexible foundation. Our expert faculty help them develop as critical thinkers, problem solvers, confident leaders, and compassionate citizens.
Throughout this recent strategic planning process, our focus was on future proofing Tenacre. We explored avenues for bolstering our already exceptional program with initiatives to help children build the 21st-century skills they need to thrive both academically and interpersonally. The resulting plan is one that purposefully seeks to augment Tenacre in three core areas: our program, places and spaces, and people.
OUR PROGRAM
STRATEGIC AREA 1: Strengthening Our Program
Tenacre will build new opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking by developing:
• An enhanced technology and STEM curriculum that provides students with the motivation, skills, and tools to nurture their curiosity and inquisitiveness
• An integrated social-emotional learning and wellness program that promotes students’ self-awareness, resilience, and confidence, and deepens the connections between home and school
• A reinvigorated academic support and enrichment structure that centralizes resources and increases opportunities for one-on-one instruction and collaboration amongst support staff to meet the needs of individual students
• Expanded ancillary programming, including a wider variety of enriching afterschool activities that will both contribute to our students’ development and introduce new families to the school
STRATEGIC AREA 2:
Creating Flexible Spaces
To support Tenacre’s evolving program needs, we will reimagine current spaces and create new spaces for multipurpose use. Plans on the drawing board include:
• A new maker space and design center that gives us the spaces and tools we need for iterative, interdisciplinary, critical-thinking and design-oriented projects
• A core learning hub that centralizes Tenacre’s support and enrichment resources to equip students with the skills they need to develop as confident learners
OUR SPACES
• New administrative and gathering spaces that foster admissions and advancement opportunities while also creating additional room for student instruction
• Classroom and outdoor updates that optimize support for the critical thinking and collaborative experiences that underpin Tenacre’s program
• Accessibility upgrades to ensure that the Tenacre experience can be enjoyed by all students
OUR PEOPLE
STRATEGIC AREA 3:
Investing in Our People
We commit to continual, purposeful investments in our most precious resources— Tenacre’s faculty and families—by supporting:
• Continued commitment to DEI through increased efforts to foster a sense of community and belonging
• Competitive salaries and benefits as well as robust faculty and staff development that will allow Tenacre to recruit and retain the best people
• Increased affordability by bolstering our financial aid budget and endowment to make the Tenacre experience available to more families
• Endowment growth to fund new programs as well as teaching and administrative roles
• An outreach program that expands our reach and communicates the value of a Tenacre education in more communities
We look forward to sharing plans and progress on achieving these strategic objectives in the months ahead. In the meantime, for more detail on the strategic plan, please visit www.tenacrecds.org/StrategicPlan.
