I
t has been a little over three years that we have published our TEENVIEW magazine in the Wichita and surrounding areas. Yet, I am not sure many of you know exactly what this publication means, and I think it is important that you do.
HOPELESSNESS Some years ago, as I tried to empower a group of young people at the local Boys and Girls Club, I noticed that I was starting to become ineffective. I regrouped and began to offer up some of my best presentations that would inspire a nation; yet, these few students were not moved. After a while, I stopped with the presentation (feeling a bit insecure in my ability to teach) and flat out asked the students, “What’s going on?”. They responded, “Mr. Murphy, we like you and appreciate what you are doing. We just don’t believe that what you are saying is possible for us.” I’ll never forget that day. In fact, I thought about it for a long time. These kids “are” hopeless. There is nothing I can say that can move them from this state. Hopelessness eats away at your will, conceals your dreams and smothers your passion... For the young, it steals the possibilities of the future. I knew that my purpose in “Nourishing My Brother” would be fulfilled in restoring hope to a hopeless generation. So after some thought and a great deal of prayer, it occurred to me that if the students could somehow touch their dream, then they would see it possible to obtain. Our youth needed to realize that their lives are significant, and that their views matter… and so was “birthed,” The TEENVIEW Magazine! Producing a magazine would allow them to meet people, attend events, research careers and experience opportunities that they could, otherwise, only dream. They could write about them for their peers to also learn from their experiences. It was a great idea! The students had a sense of restored hope as we worked to make this project happen. The only challenge was that I didn’t know how to produce a magazine by myself. It was no surprise that it took us a whole year to get the first one out, and then, another year for the second one. GIFTS WITHIN After a while and with little community support, we shelved the TEENVIEW project. We worked to put on events to try and raise money which turned out to be a BIG Fail! For those of you who may remember, Unity Ball/ Day 26 in 2009! Time went on and some of the original TEENVIEW Members said that we should “bring the magazine back.” It was 2012 when we partnered with MindFire Academy to do a summer program. We took about 10 kids and trained them to use Mac computers, taught them Illustrator and Photo Shop. None of the students had ever worked with computers on this level. They helped design the first magazine in September 2012. In November, we produced another magazine. We decided to produce a monthly magazine in January of 2013. The students are trained to not only write the articles, but, they even work on the layout, take pictures, work the website and even produce a TV show. We remind them that they have the “Gifts Within” to accomplish whatever their heart’s desire. Every year, students “graduate out” and new ones come in. We have clubs in surrounding schools and reach about 103 students in our network directly. Some students have gone on to receive big college scholarships, better jobs and unique opportunities because of their involvement with TEENVIEW Magazine. It is my goal to increase our effectiveness and reach students from Junior High through college. I hope to give them stronger skills in media arts, financial literacy, business etiquette (“soft skills”) and career development.

The TEENVIEW Magazine is a publication designed “for teens, by teens, from a teen’s point of view”. It offers a platform for teens to connect with other teens on issues that are relevant to them. Teens are also able to gain “real-world” experience as they report on various topics and assist with the design and lay-out. Participants learn various computer programs, photography, general to creative writing and many other skills as a result of their involvement with the TEENVIEW Initiative. Moreover, participants are afforded great opportunities, such as meeting and interacting with influential people. TEENVIEW Magazine is a sub-program of the Youth Educational Empowerment Program (YEEP), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that specializes in teaching financial education to youth, ages birth to 24 years, with a special emphasis in low-income communities.

W
ith 2018 officially over 2019 brings in new beginnings, a fresh start and new goals. Well, here at Teenview we finished off our year, again, in Colorado for the 2018 Decadence New Year’s Eve party. Decadence is America’s biggest New Years Celebration. With the biggest music artists in the electronic dance music world. This
event is so big that it takes place over two days in three different cities; Denver, CO, Chandler, AZ, and Salt Lake City, UT. Our Colorado experience was quite grand. This year’s lineup was stacked with the world’s most renowned artist like Bassnectar, Griz, Illenium, Skrillex, and our personal favorite Marshmello. There is a lot you can do to prepare
for a wild night at Decadence. The event starts around 6 at night and goes till 3 in the morning the next day. You get most of your day to explore the beautiful city of Denver and everything it has to offer. The event takes place indoors which is a plus, just for the simple fact Denver weather towards the end of December can get extremely cold. Once inside, the music is hits hard. There are people everywhere and
really enjoyable time. The venue is divided into three different areas. The Radius Stage acted as the main stage, the Vector Stage was a smaller area but still large enough to be its own main stage, and in the middle was the Silent Disco. The Silent Disco alone is something to experience if you ever get the chance. The silent Disco consisted of 3 different DJ’s, with 3 different styles, and 1,000 headphones. You put on a pair of headphones and you get to experience the 3 DJ’s on 3 different channels. So everyone in the area could be listening to something different right next to you. Check out the video we made on our social media and YouTube to have a little sample of what the Silent Disco was all about. The headliner for day one was Skrillex. He came hard with all his hits. Seeing and hear Skrillex live was amazing. He kept the party rocking all night long. On day two Marshmello closed out the night and his set was amazing. It was a perfect way to start off 2019. Definitely worth the price of admission. After the dust had settled, the confetti had fallen, and the last balloon had dropped it was time to go home. Decadence, for the second year in a row, was an amazing way to ring in the new year. Hearing Skrillex live was a great way to end the year of 2018 and experiencing Marshmello live was the best way to start 2019. If you ever wanted to do something different for New Years and travel to Colorado, Decadence is the way to go.
NATIONAL BLOOD DONATION MONTH

Blood donation, also called blood banking, refers to the process of collecting, testing, preparing, and storing whole blood and blood components intended primarily for transfusion. (encyclopedia.com) Donating blood is one of the most amazing things you can do. 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion each year so a great reward is knowing you helped save a life. The American Cross is constantly looking for people to donate blood. There are certain requirements you must fill before whole blood donating. Depending on your state you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and 110 pounds. There are a few other requirements you must meet in order to donate. If you’re feeling sick, but with no fever you can donate. You must wait a year after getting a tattoo. If you are pregnant you cannot donate and you must wait 6 weeks after giving birth. All other requirements are listed on the American Red Cross website. (www. redcrossblood.org) There are different forms of giving blood such as whole blood donation, power red donation, platelet donation, and AB elite plasma donation. Whole blood donation is the most common form of donating. It helps trauma patients and people undergoing surgery. Power red donation is when you give a concentrated dose of red blood cells, this type of blood is given to
trauma patients, newborns, and people with sickle cell anemia. Platelet donation refers to donating your body’s platelets. This is a long process but it is important because people suffering from cancer need platelets. AB Elite plasma donation refers to giving plasma. Plasma is used in emergency situations given to trauma patients to help stop bleeding. Because there are so many forms of donating blood this article focuses on whole blood donation. The whole blood donation process takes about 10 minutes. First you will go through a registration process which consists of showing your ID, being asked a few questions, and reading some information about donating blood. They will ask about your health history, any medications you’re on, and they will check your temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin level. During the process you will be seated or lying down. Adults have about 9-12 pints of blood in their
bodies. They will only take a pint of your blood and then bandage your arm. Once it is over it is important to eat something afterward to replenish your body and take advantage of the snacks and drinks that will be available to you. Some people may get a little faint during the process but once you’ve eaten and had something to drink you should be fine. There is no recovery time needed afterward. You can absolutely give blood again but you must wait 56 days (8 weeks) in between. When you give blood remember that your single donation can potentially save up to 3 lives. Every 2 seconds someone needs blood. Less than 38 of the population is eligible to give blood so if you’re healthy do so! Giving blood can seem scary but just know the people taking your blood are professionals and you are saving lives!

Into The Spider-Verse Review For over 15 years Sony Pictures have been producing Spider-Man movies. We sat through the Toby Maguire, The Andrew Garfield’s and we are now at Tom Holland set of Spider-Man Films. This year Sony decided to let their animation department create a major motion picture Spider-Man film that is worthy enough for the Big screen. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is one of the best Spider-Man stories to date.

Now let’s make it clear, Spider-Man: Into the SpiderVerse is not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is clearly a Sony property. The story follows Miles Morales, played by Shameik Moore, the SpiderMan from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics you may or may not know. The story plays out as an origin story for Miles but also tells the story of the many different Spider-Men and women in the film. Into the Spider-Verse takes its time building up its characters, letting us get to know them before all the action starts. Miles’ story is genuinely engaging, he builds relationships with family and makes new friends throughout the film. The film makes you really care about Miles and everyone he meets. We all by now should know the story of Spider-Man, normal human gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains spider abilities. With this film, you get not just one spider-man but multiple spider heroes, from multiple universes. It up to Miles to take down the main bad guy Kingpin, played by Live Schreiber, and get each hero back to their respective universes. Writers Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman create a perfect story surrounding all these characters, Kingpin has a motive and a reason for why he is doing what he is doing, and there is a clear reason why this Earth has so many different Spider-men and Spider-Women at one time. The duo of Miles and Peter Parker, played by Jake Johnson, makes a perfect humorous odd couple. Peter is an older, wiser yet more jaded version of Spider-man that has also put on a few pounds in the stomach area. He no longer cares to be Spider-Man in his universe, he rather just sit around eating all day. Miles wants to learn the ropes of being a top-notch Spider-Man but he just has to get used to his new founded abilities. Into the Spider-verse is a fresh take on the story most of us already know. The film takes “ With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility” to a more universal level. This film is a great contender to be considered one of the best Spider-Man films of all time. Miles Morales has a fantastic big-screen debut thanks to a great story and even better characters, heroes and villains alike. I didn’t talk about the amazing soundtrack, the many different spider heroes who are in this film because I just really want you to go see the movie. Into the Spider-Verse delivers an amazing visual experience unlink any other.

An entire new year is upon us. Every year we see awesome, weird, tacky, or all around questionable clothing trends. But hey, it’s fashion! Fashion always comes full circle. A “new” fashion trend might be something your parents wore back in the day or something we just saw a few years ago. Every fashion trend comes and goes!
Coral is supposedly the color of 2019. Coral is a beautiful color, so I cannot be mad at this. An entire black outfit paired with coral shoes is definitely a look! I am onboard with this trend. We already saw the bike shorts trend a lot in 2018, thanks to the Kardashians/Jenners, but it will still be huge in 2019. It’s a simple outfit. Pair the shorts with an oversized top or a crop top, add a pair of tennis shoes and it’s a cute, comfortable look.
Trench coats have always been a thing. But they’ve gotten to be a huge trend over the years. Think Inspector Gadget but make it fashion. Everyone looks awesome in a trench coat and it pairs wonderfully with almost any outfit.
Now for some 2019 trends for guys. Sling bags, in my opinion, are fanny packs but it’s not cool to wear those anymore, looking at you dad, instead, these are worn thrown across your back. It definitely makes for less bulky pockets so that’s I have to admit, when I saw a plus! Cropped trousers are people wearing animal print my favorite trend! It’s all about again I was thinking who transported them back to 2012. showing those ankles, men! A well-fitting pair of pants that But, apparently, it’s in again! stop right before the ankles, I’ve seen a lot of cheetah print lately! Remember when I paired with some loafers is a fabulous look. talked about full circle, right?
Men, showing even more skin is in! Shorts come in many different lengths. Don’t be afraid to show some thigh! If that’s too much for you, shorts that stop right at the knee are a trend too. Short shorts for men are nothing new. Watch a movie from the ’80s, trust me. These are just a few trends. There are so many out there and not enough time to talk about them all. Like I always say, wear what you want. Clothing isn’t limited to one gender if that’s what you are comfortable with. Fashion is definitely subjective. This is just a little list of what you might see this year. Be you, be happy!

ARIZONA CARDINALS:
The Arizona Cardinals have been looking for a new head coach ever since Bruce Arians ended his career with his retirement back at the end of the 2017 season. Early this year the Arizona Cardinals gave the head coaching job to Steve Wilks. Wilks was a long time Defensive Backs coach at several colleges the San Diego Chargers and was a DB coach and Assistant Coach at Carolina for two years before being signed as the Cardinals Head Coach. I personally believe that Wilks was unfairly fired from this job. As a coach taking over someone else’s team, you need to be given three years to surround yourself with people that fit your scheme, build relationships with your new players, and establish a tradition of winning with your team. Wilks was given one year to make the Cardinals his team which makes me wonder if he was ever really going to be given the job, or if the Cardinals organization was just looking for a quick fix until they found someone they really liked for the job.

CLEVELAND BROWNS:
While the Cleveland Browns may have fired Hue Jackson several weeks ago they are still looking for a new coach. Even though after appointing Gregg Williams as head coach the Browns went 5-3 which helped the Browns get the most wins in the past four years.

or almost everyone, New Year’s Eve is a celebration of time passing and a happy occasion to celebrate making it another year. However for the life of an NFL coach New Year’s Eve is probably the most terrifying day of your life. Now for coaches that lead their teams to the playoffs its nothing more than another New Year’s Eve that they get to spend with their family friends and players. But for the coaches that ended up at the bottom of the food chain, they are afraid that the New Year will result in them looking for a new job. Here is a list of the teams that have parted ways with their coaches and coordinators to begin their New Year’s resolutions of turning into a winning team.
GREEN BAY PACKERS:
The Packers also fired their head coach Mike McCarthy after a loss to the Arizona Cardinals in week 13. McCarthy had a long twelve-year career with the Green Bay Packers that even resulted in a Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011. McCarthy has taken the team that won the Super Bowl and has stalled them out to a team that gets in the playoffs in a bad conference. The NFC North for a long time was Packer dominated for several years especially after Jay Cutler’s prime the Packers were the only complete team in the North. But ever since the Vikings and Bears have boosted their teams to playoff potential the Packers have gone back to back years without making a playoff appearance.

MIAMI DOLPHINS:
The Miami Dolphins terminated Adam Gase after three years with the team. In his first year with the team, he took them to the playoffs with a record of 10-6 but lost in the first round to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who made them look like they didn’t belong there beating them down 30-12. Immediately following their playoff run they followed it up with a 6-10 record and no playoffs to be had. Then this last year they went 7-9 and missed the playoffs yet again. After Gase’s first season with the Dolphins, he has continued to trend downward. The only notable thing Gase has accomplished in his career is beating the Patriots the past two years in Miami. The Dolphins have given Gase three seasons to make a playoff contender out of Miami and what started as a promising career has boiled down nothing more than even seasons. Now some of this hasn’t been his fault his star quarterback Ryan Tannehill was dealing with a knee injury for much of Adam Gase’s time. And while that is something Gase can’t fix he should have found a quarterback to come in and replace Tannehill while he was on IR.

NEW YORK JETS:
The New York Jets will be searching for their 5th head coach since 2000. Todd Bowles has taken a team from the bottom of the barrel and kept them at the bottom of the barrel. When Todd came to New York the Jets were 4-12 Todd Bowles quickly turned them around and had them go 10-6 and missed out on the playoffs because of a tiebreaker between the Pittsburgh Steelers. After that season the Jets fell back down to the bottom having a 5-11 regular season record The Jets continued at this pace until this year where they matched Rex Ryan’s final season record at 4-12. The Jets have some young talent that can be utilized in the coming years. The Jets will be looking for a head coach that can take this young talent and make them a perennial playoff contender.

Marvin Lewis was fired from the Bengals organization where he coached for sixteen years. Over the course of his sixteen-year career, Marvin Lewis led the Bengals to the playoffs seven times and won the AFC North four times. After all of these attempts, Marvin Lewis never won a single playoff game. The 2009 Coach of the Year award winner never led his team past the first round of the playoffs. Marvin Lewis’s legacy in Cincinnati will be one of mediocre seasons, finished between 9-7 and 7-9 six times over the course of his time their, and playoff dull drums. The Bengals were very nice to Lewis by allowing him to remain with the team over a course of sixteen years especially when he first came to the team his first winning season was the customary three years into the job but didn’t have another winning season for four years. But it did work out for them sticking with the same guy for so long having a stretch of five straight years with playoff appearances. The Bengals were very loyal to Lewis and when he had told them he did not want to return for the 2019 season they were compliant with that and fired him December 31st.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS:
Tampa Bay has had no luck over that past few years in trying to find a reliable head coach. They are looking for their fourth head coach in 8 seasons. Dirk Koetter has been down in Tampa for three years and over the course of his time there he has also done surprisingly nothing. His first year which has seemed to be very good to most of the coaches on this list was a winning season of 9-7, missing the playoffs but showing improvement after going 6-10 the season before. After having their first winning season since 2010 the Buccaneers fell flat again going 5-11 that year and looking like most the teams on this list like it was just a one and done year with the new head coach. And the trend would continue as the Buccaneers would have another collapsing season in 2018 that was surrounded by Quarterback controversy and poor defense.

HOPEFULLY ANTHEM WILL BE A BETTER DESTINY
R
umor has it, Bioware (creators of Anthem), are putting the rest of their resources into this game. Anthem is a co-op role-playing game filled with super natural creatures and environments. You fly around and fight in your choice of different mech like suits with unique powers, guns, and abilities. This game is also online only, which is a huge let down for some of the gaming community, especially those without internet. Whats similar about Anthem and Destiny is that they’re both set out to last 10 years with DLC and updates. Destiny has already shown failure with this goal. It took all
of their gamers money with micro transactions, DLCs that were supposed to be in the original game, and a re-skinned sequel. Bioware is claiming to have free DLC and a story worth playing with friends. The company has history of making unique story telling and gameplay in titles like Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age: Origins, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Of course like most companies, unfortunately Bioware has also had a history of making bad and obviously rushed games, like Mass Effect Andromeda and Dragon Age 2. With Bioware putting all of their eggs in one basket, we might see a lesser chance of another mess up. A huge portion of the gaming community loves the look and idea of Anthem. It is scheduled to come out on February 22 for Playstation, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. Hopefully Anthem can be a better Destiny.

COCA-COLA & ESPORTS This month the world reveals what new technology and games they have to offer at CES 2019. This year there were tons of new tech shown, so much that it would be impossible to give every new invention or innovation the spotlight they deserve. So instead we will give you something to tantalize your brain. Why is Coca-cola interested in gaming? Although this is not tech, it is still something to look at. Coke revealed at CES that it is partnering up with Activision Blizzards E-Sports Leagues. History of Coca-Cola Coca-cola sells drinks all across the world. It was founded on January 29th, 1892 in Atlanta, Georgia. There is not a Cocacola shop so how does it sell its drinks? The answer is through distributors and marketing. Marketing has evolved from just putting up billboards. From the establishment of the internet, as we see it, in 1990 to the birth of the first social media in 1997 to now marketing has changed. Coke has to reach people and in recent years that’s through social media. To be more specific it has been through influencers, they attach themselves to a
popular individual, give them free stuff and in return, they show support for their product. This is the same principle businesses use when they sponsor a team or sponsor an event. History of E-Sports E-Sports didn’t exist until the late 2000s. It had a struggle trying to grow and legitimize itself to be on par with physical sports. Since its birth to now, it has grown to be a global industry. How did it grow so fast? Professional sports programs arise where ever people play those games. Unlike physical sports that are sometimes limited to countries or regions, games are played all over the world. The only difference, business-wise, between physical sports and E-Sports is that Physical sports are more organized and have an established market. E-Sports Future Companies like Activision Blizzard are pioneering E-Sports at a global scale and making it more of a real career option. They have created organized leagues and seasons as well as gotten their league on broadcasting stations like ABC,ESPN, and Disney XD. To make this more like a real sport they even pay their players $50,000 a year plus whatever bonuses they get from competitions. The average NFL player salary is $2.1 million. Now there is a big difference in pay now but don’t forget that E-Sports leagues have only began in the last 9 years (Activision’s league was started only 2 years ago). The NFL has been around for 99 years. E-Sports is becoming a strong contender in the entertainment market.

The Answer To bring it back to our question: why is coca-cola interested in gaming? Coke runs their business by putting their product in the faces of the people. E-Sports has changed into a global industry catching the eyes of many young people. Coke is sponsoring Activision Blizzards E-Sports Leagues to get the attention of young people. Don’t forget we are the future, of course, they want our attention. What to expect in the future? You can expect professional gaming careers to become more profitable as companies see the move Coke is making and jump into the industry as well.
