Every institution, especially an educational institution, has its own mission, vision, and distinctive ways to bring total progression of the people who are entrusted to its custody and to those who swear to abide all its rules and regulations. Every school must come up a handy student handbook to watch the welfare of every student. In changing times, the school must undergo better policy enhancement to update students’ rights and limitations. Here are the new laws that must be included in the student handbook:

DRUG-FREE

SMOKE-FREE
REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9165 AN ACT INSTITUTING THE COMPREHENSIVE DANGEROUS DRUGS ACT OF 2002, REPEALING REPUBLIC ACT NO. 6425, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE DANGEROUS DRUGS ACT OF 1972, AS AMENDED, PROVIDING FUNDS
THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
The school is the second home of the children so it must be safe and free from any kinds of vices such as drugs.
EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 26 PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHEMENT OF SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENTS IN PUBLIC
AND ENCLOSED PLACESPOSES
Students deserve a smoke-free and clean environment. Smoking has dangerous effects to our bodies, most especially to second-hand smokers – those who breathe fumes from firsthand smokers.

MENTAL HEALTH
REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10611 AN ACT TO STRENGTHEN THE FOOD SAFETY REGULATORY SYSTEM IN THE COUNTRY TO PROTECT CONSUMER HEALTH AND FACILITATE MARKET ACCESS OF LOCAL FOODS AND FOOD PRODUCTS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Food safety is one of many concerns of every educational institution. Students should be safe through the school’s monitoring of the school cafeteria and near food stalls to evaluate food nutritional value and facility sanitary.

FREE TUITION
REPUBLIC ACT NO. 11036 AN ACT ESTABLISHING A NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH POLICY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENHANCING THE DELIVERY OF INTEGRATED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, PROMOTING AND PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS UTILIZING PSYCHIATRIC, NEUROLOGIC AND PSYCHOSOCIAL HEALTH SERVICES, APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Students need to know that they can get the help they need. In their college life, they will encounter multiple anxieties and stress circulating in the academe, even with their peers, and family. With this implemented, students are encouraged to go to Guidance Offices and that seeking help is a brave thing to do despite empty pockets.
REPUBLIC ACT No. 10931 AN ACT PROMOTING UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO QUALITY TERTIARY EDUCATION BY PROVIDING FOR FREE TUITION AND OTHER SCHOOL FEES IN STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES, LOCAL UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES AND STATE-RUN TECHNICAL-VOCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, ESTABLISHING THE TERTIARY EDUCATION SUBSIDY AND STUDENT LOAN PROGRAM, STRENGTHENING THE UNIFIED STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SYSTEM FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION,
AND APPROPRIATING FUND THEREFOR
Students must know that they are entitled of universal access to quality tertiary education which is subsidized freely thru government funding. Education is a right that everyone has the right to learn. Young Focus Organization quotes, “Make sure a child gets an education.”
ANTI-PERVERSION

REPUBLIC ACT NO 9995 AN ACT DEFINING AND PENALIZING THE CRIME OF PHOTO AND VIDEO VOYEURISM, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Acquiring vulgar and inappropriate materials such as pornography is punishable by law, thus this provision will explain further consequences if students do not follow. A learning environment must sustain a right conduct that is free of perversion. These materials have no place at all in the walls of academic development.
The student handbook might be that book that every kid would not want to read. It is just filled with words but no pictures, right? But the thing is, it is where all the students’ rights are written and all the rules and regulations that one must conform to. Students need to recognize that all that are written in the handy dandy student book will protect them from unnecessary things that will hinder their personal and professional development.
