Green technology is the solution to ensures the sustainable coexistence of technological advancement with the environment. It is an application of three pro-environment industries which are environmental science, green chemistry and environmental engineering. This field incorporates dynamic ways of generating energy, applying greener alternatives, and designing efficient products to prevent further warming of the earth due to polution and climate change. Here’s a rundown of the top green technology inventions of the year, which highly promotes quality convenience in sustainable living:

AIR-INK MIT Media Lab devised a method to turn air pollution into ink. The carbon soot from a car’s exhaust will be collected through the specialized canister which filters the by product, after which the retrieved materials will be processed in the facility to be converted into a high-quality black ink that art enthusiast will love. If further researches will be done, oilbased paints, fabric paints, outdoor paints, and more will be released.

HOME BIOGAS 2.0 HomeBiogas 2.0 is a device that enables us to acquire renewable energy through the conversion of food waste and animal manure into cooking gas. Moreover, this appliance also creates quality liquid fertilizer. The technology uses decomposing ingredients for you to proudly utilize for cooking gas and to nourish your plants and food garden using organic fertilizer. This machine shows that living in a sustainable environment possible.

SEABIN Another challenging task we need to solve is water pollution. Floating trash and debris on bodies of water causes threats like flood and irregularities to the marine life. Don’t worry because “Seabin Project for Cleaner Ocean” is here. This campaign created a device called Seabin where it can collect up to 1.5 kgs of floating debris per day including microplastics up to 2 mm small. If this continues for one year, half tons of debris will be collected but if we just raise our disciple and awareness of waste management, there will be a time that no device will be needed to achieve pollution free environment.

AQUAPONICS We are all aware of traditional soil-based gardening right? How about hydroponics which is a method of growing plants without soil by using mineral solutions in a water solvent? But this two have their own handicaps. In the traditional way of planting, pesticides, weeds, pests, fertilizer and man-power is present. On the other hand, hydroponics is expensive and relies on man-made nutrients that composed of chemicals and this method needs intensive care. Aquaponics found a way to combine these two without using harmful chemicals and excess labor. It grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. This system does not rely on synthetic nutrients and pesticides because it depends on fish waste as a fertilizer while the plants do the filtering of water at the same time. This mutual benefit between fish and plant help us save time and money in our crops.

SOLAR PAINT Solar panels are indeed costly in the market, good thing Solar Paint was invented!

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology were able to manufacture and developed an innovative solar paint which can generate hydrogen from sunlight and moist air. It is a combination of titanium oxide and synthetic molybdenum-sulfide, a chemical that acts like silica gel that you commonly see when you buy your shoes. Whereas, thru this material, hydrogen produced by splitting hydrogen and oxygen of water can use in fuel cells or even to power a vehicle . According to lead researcher Dr. Torben Daeneke, converting brick wall into energy-harvesting and fuel production real estate and the ever-increasing list of innovative technologies that are helping move humankind away from fossil fuels and propel it towards a future of clean and renewable sources of energy will happen.

Green technology is a tool that is badly needed today. Climate is changing and it’s not getting any better. We better use sustainable technology to prevent the further destruction of our land and seas. With the advancement of the said field, we must continue to engineer more systems to help Mother Nature from dying.
