„Poetics of the Body“, das Thema und der Leitfaden des Projekts laden zunächst dazu ein, den Körper als allgemeingültiges Objekt im Raum zu sehen. Dabei ist es wohl kaum möglich, aus einer so breiten Masse an verschieden Körpern „den Körper“ zu extrahieren, wenn man bedenkt, dass kein Mensch dem Anderen gleicht.

Es wirft die Frage auf, wie verallgemeinert bzw. wie angepasst ein Produkt sein darf, um „ dem Körper dienlich sein zu können.

„Poetics of the Body „, the theme and the project‘s guideline invite at first to see the body as a universally valid object in space. It is hardly possible to extract the „body“ from such a broad mass of different bodies, considering that no one is like the other.

It raises the question of how generalized or adapted a product may be in order to “serve the body”.

„Workstation“ basiert auf der Grundidee einen einfachen, schlichten und produktiven Arbeitsplatz zu schaffen.

Einen Arbeitsplatz, der die naturgegebenen Vorraussetzungen des menschlichen Körpers aufnimmt und sie effektiv nutzt.

"Workstation" is based on the basic idea of creating a clean, simple and productive workplace.

A workplace that incorporates the natural preconditions of the human body and uses them effectively.

Auf dieser Basis ist eine Fotostudie gewachsen.

Um ein verständnis vom Körper und der sitzenden Haltung zu bekommen, wurden einfache sitzende und liegende Positionen eingenommen.

Es zeigt Muster auf, die jeder Mensch auch an sich selber feststellen kann.

Diese Muster sind als Achsen in der Fotostudie hervorgehoben. Sie bilden die Basis, auf der „Workstation“ gewachsen ist.

A photo study has grown on this foundation. In order to gain an understanding of the body and the sitting posture, simple sitting and lying positions were taken.

It shows patterns that every idividual can observe on himself/ herself.

These patterns are highlighted as axes in the photo study. They form the platform on which "Workstation" has grown.

Im Arbeitsprozess ist das Projekt über mehrere überladene und klobige Entwürfe zu einer filigranen Abstraktion der Grundidee geworden und verliert diese dennoch nicht aus den Augen.

In the working process, the project has become a filigree abstraction of the basic idea through several overloaded and clumsy designs, and yet it does not lose sight of them.

Die unmissverständliche Orientierung der Sitzfläche zur Ablagefläche, erhebt eine Erwartungshaltung an den Nutzer. Kein Zwang, aber ein Wink mit dem Zaunpfahl.

The unambiguous orientation of the seat to the storage area raises expectations of the user. No pressure, but a broad hint.

So fluchten die Achsen von Sitzfläche und Arbeitsfläche in den in den zentralen Bereich von „Workstation“, in den man beim Setzen rein zu gleiten Scheint. Dieses Gefühl entsteht offensichtlich durch die schräge Sitzfläche. Sie rahmt den Nutzer, aber schließt ihn nicht ein.

The axes of the seat and work surface are aligned into the central area of the “workstation”, into which you seem to slide when you are seated. This feeling is obviously caused by the angled seat. It frames the user, but does not trap him/her.

Zudem wird eine gesunde Rückenhaltung gefördert, durch die nachhaltig besser und ausdauernder gearbeitet werden kann.

Durch die Ausrichtung des Tisches wird dies noch weiter verstärkt, da man sich nicht weit über die Arbeitsfläche lehnen muss, um die Arbeitsfläche einsehen zu können.

„Workstation“ macht sich nicht gänzlich abhängig von übergroßen Bemaßungen, um einer Allgemeinheit dienlich zu sein. „Workstation“ wirkt nicht angepasst, es zeigt einen Weg, eine klare Linie.

Die Werke von Gordon Matta Clark bestanden größtenteils aus „cuttings“, bei denen mittels Motorsäge Fassaden, Decken und Böden von Gebäuden durchtrennt wurden.

Es wurden teilweise ganze Gebäudeteile entfernt um das innere eines Gebäudes freizulegen.

Seine Intention war der Wiederstand gegen die damals sehr konservative Architektur, sowie die Kritik der städtischen Politik, die die Verwaltung von Gebäuden aufgab und ganze Gemeinden sich selbst überließ.

In seinem Projekt „conical intersect“ wurde in einem 45 Grad Winkel ein Loch durch Fassade, Decken und Wände geschnitten um somit eine ganz neue Perspektive zu schaffen und eine sichtbare Verbindung zwischen Boden und Himmel zu schaffen.

The works of Gordon Matta Clark mainly consisted of „cuttings“, where the facades, floor slabs and floors of buildings were cut with a chainsaw. Some parts of the building were removed to expose the inner part of the building. (see picture left) His intention was the resistence to the veryconservative architecture, as well as the criticism of urban politics, which abandoned the management of buildings and left whole communities to their own devices.

In his project „conical intersect“, a hole was cut through the facade, ceilings and walls at a 45 degree angle to create a completely new perspective and create a visible connection between the ground and the sky.

Unsere Interpretation des Projektes bezieht sich vor allem auf die Beziehung zwischen Boden und Himmel, die durch ein „eingeschobenes Volumen“ verbunden wird. Je nach Position im Gebäude gibt es immer unterschiedliche Lichtverhältnisse, bedingt durch die Sonne. Das Licht wird durch alle Flächen und Kanten gebrochen und durch leichte Veränderungen der „Sonne“ entstehen immer neue spannende Eindrücke.

Durch die eingeschobenen, dreieckigen Räume innerhalb der Vielzahl von Schichten entstehen, ähnlich wie bei Clark, neue Körper die dabei einen neuen Raum für verschiedene Nutzungen bilden.

Ebenso bilden die Räume viele neue Sichtbeziehungen - zwischen den einzelnen Schichten nach draußen, in andere Räume und in den an alle Räume verbundenen Mittelgang. In den Räumen befinden sich fest in die Außenwand integrierte Tische und Stühle zum Aufenthalt für eine zukünftig vielfältige Nutzung.

Da es sich bei seinen „cuttings“ immer um temporäre Projekte handelt, haben wir eine Konstruktion entwickelt, die ebenso temporär auf - und abgebaut werden kann.

Deshalb kann unsere Konstruktion in einer Vielzahl von Umgebungen Platz finden und steht inmitten der Kommunikation von Umwelt und Mensch.

Our interpretation of the project relates above all to the relationship between ground (earth) and sky, which is connected by a „inserted volume“.

Depending on the position in the building, there are always different light conditions, caused by the sun. The light is refracted by all surfaces and edges because of the „sun“ new and exciting impressions are created.

The interpolated, triangular spaces within the multitude of layers create new bodies, similar to Clark‘s, creating a new space for different uses.

Likewise, the rooms form many new visual links between the individual layers outside, into other rooms and the central corridor connected to all rooms. Tables and chairs integrated into the exterior wall are located in the rooms, which will be used for a wide variety of purposes in the future.

Because his cuttings are always temporary projects, we have developed a construction that can also be temporarily assembled and dismantled.

This is why our design can fit into a variety of environments and stands in the middle of the communication between environment and person.

Basierend auf Gordon Matta Clarks „conical Intersect“ soll der Pavillon Kunst und Nutzbaren Raum gleichermaßen vereinen. Ziel soll sein, Ihn als erlebbares Kunstwerk im Zentrum des s.p.m. zu platzieren, um den Pavillon als Platz für Ausstellungen, als zentralen Terminal oder als Ort der Entspannung nutzen zu können.

Based on Gordon Matta Clark‘s „conical Intersect“, the pavilion is intended to unite art and usable space in equal measure. The aim is to place it as a tangible work of art in the centre of s. p. m. in order to be able to use the pavilion as a place for exhibitions, as a central terminal or as a place for relaxation.

Das Grundstück am Kanonengraben befindet sich sehr zentral in Münsters Innenstadt, mit dem Aasee, 100 Meter Westlich und dem Aegidiimarkt, 300 Meter Nördlich. Damit ist der Pavillon nicht nur Geographisch sehr gut gelegen, sondern auch öffentlich wirksam und damit von zentraler Bedeutung.

The property at the „Kanonengraben“ is very centrally located in Münster‘s city centre, with the Aasee, 100 meters west and the Aegidiimarkt, 300 meters north. This is why the pavilion is not only very well situated geographically, but also publicly effective and hence has central importance.

Um den Pavillon als Kunstwerk wirken zu lassen ist er am südlichen Rand des Grundstücks platziert. Wie ein gutes Kunstwerk öffnet sich der Pavillon Wort wörtlich nur dem, der neugierig genug ist näher darauf einzugehen.

Je näher man kommt, desto weiter entfernt man sich von Verkehr. Das von Bäumen umschlossene Grundstück wird stärker als Natürlicher Raum wahrgenommen.

To make the pavilion look like a work of art it is located at the southern edge of the property.

Like a great work of art, the pavilion literally only opens up to those who are curious enough to go into it.

The closer you get, the further you get from traffic.

The property surrounded by trees is perceived more strongly as a natural space.

Entscheidend bei dem Entwurf des Pavillons ist, den Ausschnitt als Leitfaden des Matta Clarks, nicht zu stark aufzulösen. So wird der, in schritt zwei thematisierte Ausschnitt lediglich zu Gunsten eines Fahrstuhls verkürzt, aber dennoch beibehalten.

Der Ausschnitt erschließt den Pavillon als Treppe und öffnet sich zu beiden Seiten in die jeweiligen dreieckigen Räume.

Weder vom Fuße der Treppe, noch von der Dachterrasse aus, lassen diese sich erahnen. Die Räume sind jeweils von Glas gerahmt und trennen Warm- und Kaltbereich voneinander.

Durch die Tiefe der Verglasung verlieren Innenraum und Außenraum nicht an Transparenz und ihrer Horizontalität. Das Ergebnis ist ein heller Innenraum der von Außen nur zu erahnen ist.

Der Pavillon verbindet Himmel und Erde, und manifestiert diese Verbindung in der Sichtbeziehung zu Beginn und am Ende der Treppe.

Die nutzbaren Räume umfassen Ein Café und Einen Info Point im Erdgeschoss, einen Ausstellungsraum und Aufenthaltsbereich im ersten Obergeschoss, einen Arbeitsbereich für Kuratoren im zweiten Obergeschoss und eine Dachterrasse.

The main point in the design of the pavilion is not to lose the detail as a guide of Matta Clark. In this way, the section that was discussed in step two is simply shortened in favour of an elevator, but still retained.

The cut-out opens up the pavilion as a stairway and opens into the respective triangular rooms on both sides.

Neither from the bottom of the stairs or the rooftop terrace you can devine them. The rooms are each framed by glass and separate warm and cold areas from each other.

The depth of the glazing means that the interior and exterior space do not lose transparency and horizontal orientation. The result is a bright inner space that can hardly be expected from the outside.

The pavilion connects sky and ground, and manifests this connection in the visual relationship at the beginning and the end of the stairs.

The usable rooms include a café and an information point on the ground floor, an exhibition room and a social area on the first floor, a work area for curators on the second floor and a roof terrace.
