Architekt Mies van der Rohe wurde zusammen mit Designerin Lilly Reich beauftragt einen Repräsentationsraum für die Weltausstellung in Barcelona 1929 zu errichten. Der Pavillon sollte als “reine Architektur“ zum Gegenstand der Betrachtung werden. Das Bauwerk zählt zu den Schlüsselbauten der modernen Architektur.

Architect Mies van der Rohe and designer Lilly Reich, was commissioned to build a representative room for the world exhibition in Barcelona in 1929. The pavilion was to become an object of „pure architecture“. The pavillon is one of the most important buildings in modern architecture.

Die abgebildete Studie macht deutlich, dass die bestimmte Anordnung, d.h. die Länge und der Abstand der Wandscheiben, die Wegeführung vorgibt, indem immer wieder neue Sichtachsen und Bezugspunkte entstehen. Durch die Verwendung von verglasten, also transparenten und opaken Wänden wird dieses Konzept verstärkt.

The illustrated study shows that the particular arrangement, the length and the distance of the walls, the throughway prevails by constantly creating new sight axes and reference points. By using of glazed, transparent and opaque walls, this concept is provided.

Das Modellphoto „Spielbrett mit Wandscheiben“ zeigt eine gerasterte Holzplatte auf der Wandscheiben gesteckt sind, die sich individuell verschieben lassen. Auch im Barcelona Pavillon zeigt Mies van der Rohe, dass die Wände durch Stützen keinerlei tragende Funktion haben und frei verschiebbar erscheinen. In dem Modell lassen sich durch Verschieben der Wände, neue Räume generieren.

Auch die Einteilung in privatere und öffentlichere Bereiche ist möglich.

The model photo „Spielbrett mit Wandscheiben“ shows a scratched wooden panel and walls that can be moved individually. In the Barcelona Pavilion, Mies van der Rohe also shows that the walls have no supporting function and can be moved individually. In the model, new rooms can be created by moving the walls. It is also possible to divide into more private and public areas.

Ausgehend von der Analyse des Barcelona Pavillons, habe ich mich in der zweiten Phase verstärkt mit der Verglasung befasst.

Im Modellphoto „glass cubes“ sind mehrere Glaswände im Raster auf einer Holzplatte angeordnet. Im Foto darunter wird deutlich, dass ein „unendlicher Raum“ entsteht, so dass keine klaren Raumgrenzen erkennbar sind.

Diese Raumgrenzen sind dennoch vorhanden, wie in den beiden letzten Bildern zu sehen ist: Ähnlich wie in dem Bild der gespiegelten Kolbe- Statue aus Phase 1, werden hier die entstehenden Reflektionen und Spiegelungen deutlich. Zu den unmittelbar angrenzenden Räumen sind die durch Reflektionen entstehenden Barrieren sehr schwach und nehmen zu den hinteren Räumen immer mehr zu, sodass der „unendliche Raum“ doch in gewisser Weise eine Begrenzung aufweist.

Das letzte Modellphoto unterstützt dies: Hier sind entstehenden Spektralfarben zu erkennen. Auch hier wird deutlich, dass die Raumgrenzen zunächst sehr transparent erscheinen, dann aber immer mehr in das Opake übergehen.

As a result of the analysis of the Barcelona pavilion in the first phase, I took a closer look at the glazing in the second phase.

In the model photo „glass cubes“ several glass walls are arranged on a wooden panel. The photo below shows that an „infinite space“ is created, so that no clear boundaries can be seen.

These spatial boundaries are nevertheless present, as can be seen in the last two pictures: Similar to the image of the Kolbe statue from phase 1, the resulting reflections are shown. To the directly bordering rooms, the barriers resulting from reflections are very weak and are increasing to the rear spaces, so that the „infinite space“ has a certain limitation.

The last model photo supports this: emerging spectral colors can be seen. Here it also becomes clear that the boundaries initially appear to be very transparent, but then turn more and more into the opaque.

Heutzutage hat sich das Verhältnis von Wohnen und Arbeiten vor allem in den Großstädten verändert. Die berufliche Tätigkeit findet immer häufiger zu Hause am eigenen Schreibtisch statt. Der direkte Kontakt und die unmittelbare Kommunikation unter den Menschen werden hierdurch zunehmend vernachlässigt.

Dieses Projekt soll insbesondere jungen, innovativen Unternehmen, Designern & Künstlern die stete Möglichkeit der Begegnung und der Interaktion bieten und somit die Kreativität und Produktivität in ihren Unternehmungen fördern: Nur durch Glaselemente abgetrennte Arbeitsbereiche liegen im Erdgeschoss unmittelbar aneinander und lassen einen nahezu vollständigen transparenten Raum entstehen. Die Grenze zwischen Außen - und Innenraum wird aufgebrochen und lässt neue Beziehungen und Begegnungen der Bewohner, wie auch zu Nachbarn der angrenzenden Umgebung entstehen.

In den beiden darüberliegenden Geschossen befinden sich die privaten Wohnbereiche. Sie sind durch Innenhöfe mit den benachbarten Wohnungen verbunden. Zusammen mit dem Dachgarten bilden sie weitere Orte der Begegnung.

Nowadays, the relationship between living and working has changed, especially in the urban life. The working activity is more and more frequent at the own desk at home. Direct contact and direct communication among people are increasingly neglected.

In particular, this project is intended to offer young people, innovative companies, designers and artists the opportunity to meet and interact, thus promoting creativity and productivity in their enterprises: Only working areas separated by glazing elements are directly adjacent to each other on the ground floor, creating a virtually complete transparent space.

The border between the exterior and the interior is broken and creates new relationships and encounters between the inhabitants as well as neighbors of the surrounding environment.

In the two floors above are the private living areas.

They are connected by courtyards with neighboring apartments. Together with the roof garden they form more places of encounter.

Die Stadt Köln bietet ein enormes Potenzial für junge, kreative Unternehmen. Nachfolgend werden drei Standorte Kölns vorgestellt, in die sich das einzigartige Konzept aus Wohnen und Arbeiten optimal einfügen würde: Der Stadtteil Ehrenfeld hat eine sehr lebendige Kunst- und Kulturszene. Er wird als Wohnviertel immer beliebter - eine wachsende Zahl von Theatern, Restaurants und Szenekneipen zeugen davon. Ebenso ist er mittlerweile ein etabliertes Zentrum für innovative und kreative Unternehmen.

Mitten in diesem Szeneviertel setzt sich das Gebäude zwischen einen Komplex moderner Loftbüros und einer kürzlich neu entstandenen Wohnsiedlung und bildet mit seinem Konzept eine optimale Schnittstelle.

Ein weiterer möglicher Standort für dieses Wohnkonzept liegt direkt im Zentrum von Köln, am Neumarkt. Er ist mit 27.216 m² (~ 8.600 m² Nutzfläche) der größte der etwa 30 Kölner Plätze und einer der wesentlichen Knotenpunkte des öffentlichen

Cologne offers enormous potential for young, creative companies. In the following, three locations in cologne will be presented, in which the unique concept of living and working would be ideally integrated: The district of Ehrenfeld has a very lively art and culture scene. It is becoming more and more popular as a residential district - a growing number of theaters, restaurants and scene crowds testify. It is also an established center for innovative and creative companies.

In the middle of this scene district, the building is located between a complex of modern loft offices and a recently developed residential community, and is an ideal interface with its concept.

Another possible location for this residential concept is located right in the center of Cologne, on the Neumarkt. With 27,216 m² (~ 8,600 m² of usable space), it is the largest of the approximately 30 Cologne squares and one of the most important junctions of the public local traffic. Around ‚the Neumarkt‘, museums, galleries, cultural and educational institutions have settled, which the building would ideally complement.

Nahverkehrs. Rund um den Neumarkt haben sich Museen, Galerien, Kultur- und Bildungseinrichtungen angesiedelt, zu denen sich das Gebäude ideal ergänzend einfügen würde.

Auf Grund des Rückgangs des innerstädtischen Autoverkehrs wird hier ein Parkhaus umgenutzt, um zusätzlichen nutzbaren Wohnraum in der Stadt zu schaffen.

Der Stadtteil Deutz ist rechtsrheinisch („Schäl Sick“) gelegen und der größte der fünf Bezirke der Innenstadt von Köln. Er ist vor allem durch die Koelnmesse, die Lanxess Arena und den Bahnhof Köln Messe/Deutz bekannt. Auch das Ingenieurswissenschaftliche Zentrum der FHS Köln befindet sich in Deutz. Hier bildet das Objekt einen Knotenpunkt zu den in unmittelbarer Nähe gelegenen Köln- Arkaden, einem Wohnviertel und den Bürokomplexen, die rund um den Deutzer Bahnhof entstanden sind.

Because of the decline in inner-city car traffic, a car park is being used here to create additional useful living space in the city. ‚Köln- Deutz‘ is located on the right side of the Rhine („Schäl Sick“) and the largest of the five districts of the inner city of Cologne. It is mainly known for the ‚Koelnmesse‘, the ‚Lanxess Arena‘ and the ‚Bahnhof Köln- Messe/ Deutz. The engineering science center of the FHS Cologne is also located in Deutz. The object forms a node to the nearby ‚Köln- Arkaden‘, a residential district and the office complexes, which have arisen around the ‚Deutzer Bahnhof‘.
