Gas and electricity prices are going through the roof with some companies announcing up to four increases this year. Some households will be paying up to €800 extra a year. The Government will also increase the Carbon Tax by €7.50 per ton next year. Which will disproportionately impact lower-income individuals and families and lead to fuel poverty. The Fuel Allowance is only paid to 380,000 households, which means most pensioners as well as low paid workers do not receive it and are not protected from price increases. In March 2021, 19% of people cut back on heating and
